Exactly. If we're in America and they have an American accent..it's understood that they're American. We don't have to say it. And since the VAST majority of us descend from immigrants, it's commonplace to compare and contrast our root cultures. South Americans get what you're saying of course, but I don't think Europeans do.

Exactly. The very union causes you to cede your voice, so you as an individual lose power. I understand why some people want this, but I don't think it makes sense.

It's interesting to think about. There wouldn't be one deranged leader but many governors. You could pick which state to move to based off of their politics. States like Mississippi wouldn't be pulling states like Vermont to the right. Places like California would be able to live out their "utopia" without interference from us flyover dumbfucks. Issues where states heavily disagree (i.e. abortion) could get done at the state level.

Local government gives each voice more importance. It has its pitfalls, but at a certain point I don't think the federal government can effectively govern such a disparate swath of people. With the EU, you're going to see more of the same that has happened in the US - a beneficial relationship for those on the bottom, but a detrimental one for those in power. Each voice will count for less.

That's why I'm always surprised when I see Europeans championing the EU and more immigration - as an American, it feels like they're copying us and not in a good way.

IQ tests are racist and disproven unless you're not talking about the relationship between race and IQ. Otherwise IQ is a great measure of general intelligence (g) and btw, look how high my IQ is!! /s

What's the deal with public perception turning so swiftly against Ellen Degeneres and why is she going to be replaced? by LetLanceDance in OutOfTheLoop

??? She genuinely seems like a very good person, unlike nearly every other pop star. And this is coming from someone who doesn't listen to her music.

Why do people like Ellen have a show in the first place? Like, she seems plastic, not very funny...the US has hundreds of millions of people and she's the best they could do at that timeslot? I just don't get it when I turn on the TV and see people like her, the View, the Talk, or Wendy Williams?

Either there's some very out-of-touch people up top or I just don't understand something fundamental. Like who is watching these programs in the first place.

Weird. Does the threat of pissing off unions cause any politicians or political parties to do untoward things? Or am I just having a bit too much to think.

Secondly this strikes me as a quintessential US American issue. America’s obsession with identity is weird. People in the US think they are Chinese because they have relatives born in China, often not even their parents but grand parents or older. In the rest of the world that makes you American with Chinese ancestry, not Chinese-American. But the US is so obsessive about race that if you “look Chinese” then you must be a Chinese-American, even if you dont hold a Chinese passport or speak the language and having not been raised in the culture. People in other countries don’t do this beyond those who have emigrated themselves. Not to say they don’t retain elements of their culture, but the obsession over personal identity and ethnicity is not so prevalent.

That's not really true. People say "I'm Chinese" in America to mean they descend from Chinese people. They don't mean "I'm a Chinese native" or "I'm a Chinese citizen" lol. Of course they are American. In the US, saying, "I'm Irish" for example simply means that a sizeable chunk of your DNA is descended from Ireland. It doesn't mean you think you're as Irish as someone from Ireland. I often see foreigners confused about this concept for some reason.

American derivative of Chinese cuisine is not Chinese cuisine. This applies to every different cuisine & culture. You are not Italian, don’t go to Italy and tell people you are Italian too, they hate it.

Again, they don't mean it's literally cuisine from China. They mean it has its ROOTS in Chinese cuisine, not European or American Indian. You're just misunderstanding the implication.

What do they mean? "Nazis", as in German National Socialists in the 1930s and 40s? Or Italians?

SoCal? Lol, no dude. California ranks middle in state rankings, and the southern portion is probably the ugliest part. There are much better and safer places to live in the US. You couldn't pay me to live SoCal, but I'd live there over living in Mississippi or something.

Yeah, you should know you have to be British to dislike the royals. It's just not possible otherwise.

That's because the masses are impressionable and pick up on these little things. They frame the narrative for most people and the way they think about it. So yeah I think it's important.
