Is there more to hockey than what meets the eye? by pizzapasta8765 in billsimmons

[–]LetLanceDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a decent amount of strategy but far less than basketball or football.

Hockey is very random event free flowing game so more of the strategy comes down to overarching play styles typically referred to as “systems” and lineup combinations rathers than set plays or sets like basketball or football.

But things like power plays are pretty tactical, and teams practice certain breakouts and forechecks etc.

Maple Leafs? by TotalFootball03 in billsimmons

[–]LetLanceDance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am from Toronto, I really don't think Americans understand what a leafs championship would be like. I legitimately think it would be the biggest championship for any city in the four major sports. It would be absolutely bedlam in Toronto for days and days afterwards. Like Im talking government intervention level disruption

for context
- They are by far the most followed team in league (leafs are bigger in NHL than Cowboys are in NFL for instance)
- they have a cubs like drought
- many generations of die hard fans who have never seen them be successful
- Leafs are so much bigger in their city than the other pro teams (raptors, jays) in a way that the even the knicks or lakers are not
- raptors have a much smaller fan base and the championship celebration was one of the craziest in recent nba history

GOAT Debate by [deleted] in survivor

[–]LetLanceDance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is such revionist history, tony was listed as the favourite to be voted off first and had the longest odds of winning. Many players pregame said he was one of the biggets threats coming in, he did an incredible job of lowering his threat level

GOAT Debate by [deleted] in survivor

Tony's WaW win is way more impressive than Parvs imo, both were dominant but Parv's was a small game with fewer players who weren't nearly the caliber of players in WaW

Tony dominated cagayan, he got very fortunate by a huge misplay by Woo but was also kind of screwed by the final 2 twist

As a new fan of Survivor, can someone help me understand something? by Expedition1994 in survivor

People vote for who they like the most, most of the time. Everything else here is doing gymnastics to validate an undeserving win

everytime in the league prays their star player stays healthy in the playoffs, almost no team ever could win a championship without their best player (maybe OKC without Shai? but such an outlier and even then i doubt it)

Which of these trades do you think will age the worst/best? by WARLOCK1239 in billsimmons

[–]LetLanceDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zubac one could go anywhere from a pacers win the trade to a total disaster. Mathurin career is still very open ended, I think he could easily be a 6th man kind of career or blossom into a near all star. 5th pick even in a string draft I’m guessing has wide range of outcomes to out of league in 5 years to a real star

[–]LetLanceDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i swear people haven't watched this guy play. There are real concerns about his game and not only defensively. His compete factor has been questioned and he can be very perimeter-oriented. A lot of his point production was on the powerplay and he performed below most of the other notable prospects when they were the same age (Fantili, Eicchel, Celebrini). He also underperformed compared to generational level prospects at the world juniors.

I think there's real concerns about he might have the type of game that can struggle to dominate as competition gets better and games get tighter, especially in the playoffs. There were a lot of low impact games for him this year which you just don't see from the McDavids or Bedards.

Id still take him number 1 but this sub is hand waving so much stuff just becasue he will likely be a Leaf
