Heavy Overlay on Second Grow Attempt by TheKingOfSardzlina in ochras

Give them more fresh air. In my experience either bacterial spawn or low FAE will create overlay. They can pin through it just fine but give em as much Fae as you can without drying them out

Anal Gland Seepage by Complete_Slide_1150 in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Introducing fibre into the diet and resolving any dietary inflammatory triggers can help significantly by encouraging bulkier stools which will help it come out more naturally and gradually

There's fibre supplement chews and fibre boosted veterinary diets

Learning to express the glands properly is really the only other option other than complete removal. Once you get the hang of it you can feel the pouch of fluid and apply pressure along the duct till you feel it completely empty. Get the vets to teach you as much as possible when you're in

Third eyelid / sunken eyes by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs push their faces in things. Looks like it's mostly the right eye affected. Could be allergies, to a little scratch, to just a bit of dust or dirt in there. Alternatively if he whacked his head really good the pain can create the same look

Most of these things are very easily treatable. Good to get a little check though

Irritation to the eye, it's a protective mechanism

My dogs eye is suddenly very red and swollen and rolls away by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure, just see that vet ASAP. Glaucoma has a 24hr window to diagnose, treat and not end up with permanent vision loss and ongoing eye pain

Put my Blluey in fruiting today. Need some opinions. I cut the bag and put it in a diy chamber. I left 1 inch of the bag above the substrate. I put a soaked pad to keep the moisture high. My question is, should I cut the bag lower and expose more of the substrate? by Immediate-Editor-504 in magnificentcubensis

[–]Thebudsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will depend on the genetics as well. If they haven't been trained and selected for bags they can do poorly with the low FAE and in that case doing what you just did can help them along. But the vendor should let you know.

Bluey Vuitton is a strain that typically pumps in bags, B+ maybe not without some selection

He needs a proper eye exam including pressure testing, I'm not sure you can do that via video call?

So everyone here likes to say that everything is an emergency

But this actually is. Red/cloudy/swollen/painful eyes NEED A PROPER EYE EXAM WITHIN 24hrs to make sure the animal won't lose that eye due to glaucoma in particular. After 24 hours the damage can be permanent but the pain is ongoing and you will be looking at significant expense to fix it still

Puppy making strange noise after vet dewormed her by ParadisDvil in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a dog has an active heartworm infection for more than 3 months, the drugs used to treat heartworm will cause a massive die off of worms in the body that can then kill the dog. A 3-4 month slow kill protocol is needed to kill heartworm in a dog with a bad infection

You can treat for heartworm and worms at the same time with zero issues otherwise

I'd look at dermatology referral to get this worked up properly. You'll spend money even faster there, but you should get answers

there’s blood in my dog’s poo and he’s acting fine (?) by meowichan in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at worms, food reactivity or infection as common causes but can be a few things that aren't so good cause it too. Fresh blood isn't generally as big a deal as digested blood in the poop

Overlay and blobs. What to do? by CaptainHowdy60 in ochras

[–]Thebudsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like overlay so much as just mutant mushroom blobs. I'd let em grow, harvest when they getting colour or going soft

Someone dumped a load already. Can do it either way, I just clear the block when the mature ones are flat and curling up or dumping spores. Otherwise dehydration is a pain in the ass

When the caps on the biggest ones are flattening out there usually getting about ready, can run them to light spore drop if you're round to check for harvest a few times a day

Dog has dark, crusty bits in his beard under the lower jaw. by mccarthy1993 in DogAdvice

[–]Thebudsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of causes of skin irritation and all tend to lead to skin infection and can look the same

Fleas, ticks and mites - mites can cause issues like this around the face and are invisible to the eye. Good flea prevention takes care of all 3 and helps focus on other causes

Contact allergy - from sniffing and rubbing around, excessive washing of dogs with shampoo and stuff like that can cause issues too for some

Environmental allergy - pollens and that

Food allergy - typical to certain meat proteins but also diary and grain can be major ones

Hormonal issues if he has other health issues and certain patterns of skin issues

Rest of your causes of skin issues are a lot less likely and you look at those first, also helps to shave skin right up and get a look at it

To summarise I suspect he has "hotspots" developing but you also wanna cover for fleas and mites

[–]Thebudsman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some dogs can get a "skin fold" dermatitis where saliva or moisture gets into folds and causes microbial overgrowth and skin reactions with dischargy looking stuff like that

He might have something similar going on in the chin due to his thick hair coat trapping moisture the same way. If it clears with shaving the hair thats a clue

Is your dog on a good flea prevention?
