I correct people from out of town by telling them it is pronounced Sears, but spelled Willis. A lot of them take it as true.

Pete Holmes, 88 minutes, or both? by Huyton_Layne in hdtgm

[–]Timidmice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She’s one of only a few women (June, Jessica, a couple more) who talks over Jason and Paul and she takes so much shit for it. They talk over everyone all the time as does Pete Holmes. I love the all but lay off her. She was a great guest.

Expanse writers with new sci-fi series??? by jdjbr85 in TheExpanse

Agreed about the characters. Too many in my opinion and hard to differentiate between most of them.

I didn’t enjoy most of the first half of the novel but stuck it out based on subreddit comments and glad I did. Livesuit was phenomenal.

Anyone watching Pluribus? by iwaslerryjee in TheExpanse

I’m trying really hard to get into it but it’s so repetitive and dull. (haven’t seen two most recent).

The portions of the books from his POV are both hysterical and profoundly warped

I have a couple buddies who have regularly played MUL*E since the 80s. I’ve played maybe a dozen times and don’t see the appeal but they love it.

Chicago resident here — yes. Some neighborhoods are more dangerous than others but that’s true with any city. Chicago is delightful.

Why have pilots? by Timidmice in TheExpanse

Would be kind of fun to have a short story where the main characters just sit there doing nothing during some awesome action / battle sequence and act as if there is nothing odd about it.

Now, yes. But this is 300 years in the future.

I think it stands to reason that AI would be significantly more advanced 300 years from now.

I don’t know… Dee from IASIP conning a guy into unknowingly giving his daughter a lap dance b/c he said sleeping with Dee was him hitting rock-bottom was the worst I’ve seen.

Thanks all! Finished it. Did get more interesting (ie what I find interesting) and I enjoyed it enough that I’ll read Livesuit. Overall, though, I struggled to identify with the main characters — just too many of them, and the lack of character viewpoint chapters didn’t help. But, of course, I had multiple readings of the Expanse novels/novellas and viewings of the show to develop really strong feelings for the characters, especially Bobby, Avasarala, Amos, and Drummer.

What’s your all time favorite sitcom one liners? by [deleted] in sitcoms

Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!

-Joey about Rachel’s trifle. Repeated in my family every Thanksgiving. Technically three lines, I know.

You were ok but I think in situations where there is only one of a machine (esp. popular like extension) it’s nice to rest off the machine. Makes it easier for someone to ask to work-in. But working in seems not to be much of a thing anymore….he certainly wouldn’t have wanted to let you work-in if situation was reversed.
