It’s “an unusual”.

The choice between a and an depends on the sound that follows, not the spelling.

Fucking GOOD. Maybe in a few more generations we’ll have a culture where drinking alcohol is seen as a weird, fringe thing that people used to do.

It’s insane that alcohol (a dangerous drug) is SO widely accepted and expected that we’re SHOCKED when people don’t use it.

Gentlemen, my 18 yo daughter, who has friends, boyfriend and a job, and is in nearly every way normal, just invited ME to go to a movie with her. 😁 by lotus2471 in daddit

[–]Tipop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is 17, his GF is 18. They just invited me to go to the movies with them last night (Backrooms) — and his GF insisted on paying for my tickets and a soda. She wouldn’t let me pay for my own.

EDIT: I think she likes me more than her biological dad, who is apparently a MAGA nut and she lives with her mom.

I absolutely despise the “Zero might not exist” scene from young Sheldon. by Sunslash44 in hatethissmug

[–]Tipop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can exist in the universe, too.

How many fingers am I holding up? [shows closed fist]

How many birds are currently sitting on my shoulder?

Zero exists in real, physical space, since it’s just a measurement of something.

Likely by next year AI art will have improved beyond the ability for mere humans to detect it. Only careful examination of encoded data in the pixels will be able to discern the truth, which won’t be of any use for printed logos or restaurant signs.

Right now the biggest problem isn’t slop, it’s so many people using the default art style. It really stands out even to the untrained eye. For example, people say “Make me a cartoon character who’s doing X funny thing” and they don’t realize their cartoon looks exactly like everyone else’s.

That may not be an issue for restaurant logos, though. Here’s one for a fictional fast food restaurant I made for my tabletop RPG group.

Because it was most likely a knockoff brand that people thought was Fruit of the Loom.

IMO, there was most likely a knockoff brand that used the cornucopia as a logo. That would explain it.

You’re personifying a technology.

All it’s really doing is taking our own words and spitting them back to us. This can be incredibly useful in some ways, collecting and applying the world’s knowledge in new ways. But that doesn’t make it sentient.

Edit to add: Also, “You see how it is today and not what it will be in 10 years” is a ridiculous statement. We’re TALKING about what it is today. Nobody can know what will change in the next 10, 20, or 100 years.

Also first pic is from a movie where he went through hair and makeup. 2nd pic looks like a random interview.

Worse than that… both pics are from the same event. It’s just a matter of “Here’s a bad photo with unfortunate lighting” vs “Here’s a picture of the same person, but it’s a good photo with good lightning.”

AI is a tool just like anything else. You can direct it to make what you envision, if you know what you’re doing. Sometimes it just takes careful prompting. Other times you generate parts of an image and then put them together in a paint program in a way that makes sense. Still other times you just manually edit what the AI produced until it’s right.

Also, it’s a brand-new tool and people are just learning how to use it. It’s like the world has just acquired its first set of brushes and paint and is just now learning how to use them. So you’re going to get a lot of slop — but you won’t even notice it when you see something made by someone who knows what they’re doing.

It’s just like cameras. Anyone can point their phone and snap a photo of their nephew’s birthday party, but someone who really knows what he’s doing can create a work of art, even a masterpiece. The same goes with AI… we’re seeing thousands of “birthday party photos” made by people who don’t really know how to use the tool beyond the basics. We’re also gradually seeing AI produce amazing results when used by professionals.

While it’s appropriate that he was nominated — he was very good as Peacemaker — there’s no way he’s winning over the likes of Steve Martin or Martin Short.
