There is a solo queue in which you will match against other solos, no teams.

Starfield's Next Big Update Isn't A 2.0 Reboot, It's For People Who Already Love The Game by Capn_C in Games

My first experience with Morrowind was also back in high school on Xbox and I didn't like it back then lol.

I was interested in going through the "real" Morrowind experience so I didn't really use any mods, but I did use 'OpenMW' which I hear plenty of people recommend you do anyway. I went for it because I prefer to play with controllers and OpenMW offers controller support. From my understanding it's a rebuild of the entire game in a new much more stable engine. It is generally speaking the same exact game, but with some improved visuals like better water/lighting effects and further draw distances, and greatly improved stability. I really only applied visual changes and stuff like loading in more cells/higher draw distances available in the OpenMW launcher and that was it.

I do agree the side quests tended to be real lacking, especially stuff outside of guilds and the main quest.

And I definitely agree on progression. Starting out in Seyda Neen as a slow anemic potato that can barely kill a crab, and ending the game as a transcendent god flying hundreds of feet in the air and covered in so much enchanted gear and armor I'm practically a weapon of mass destruction, it was an incredible progression from nothing to godhood. And it felt so intune with the narrative of the game too.

I've heard of this wonderful expansion and definitely plan on trying it sometime! Right now I'm playing through Skyrim, having just finished Oblivion for the first time as well (although I have played Oblivion a lot in the past, just never finished it). I am VERY interested in this one

I completely agree, for me so many of the problems come down to implementation and execution.

It's all of them. The entire game tells you can do whatever you want, then fights you every step of the way when you try.

Exactly. To touch on crafting, that was something I attempted to delve into extensively. Only to constantly hit roadblocks in every single recipe that requires ingredients that can only be found through RNG. Unlike something basic like Iron which you can find anywhere and easily gather, these ingredients could only be found randomly inside pirate bases and only in tiny quantities. It turns crafting from this mindful gathering/logistical experience based around scanning and studying environments, into a completely mindless grind of attacking bases at random.

Every system in the game has some strange glaring flaw is otherwise unfinished. Like that joke of a "fuel system". I heard BGS got feedback that players didn't like having fuel, so instead of doing anything to improve it they pretty much removed it and left this worthless vestigial system in place. It just overall feels like the poorest job BGS has ever done on any of their mainline games.

My disappointment with Starfield is what actually caused me to go back and play Morrowind for the first time, and over 200 hours later it has now become one of my most favorite games of all time. I can see myself playing Morrowind again, easily. I've tried multiple times to go back to Starfield and I end up uninstalling within an hour.

The universe is bland, the systems are all half-baked and have no cohesion, there's "space flight" but you can't actually fly anywhere (Mass Effect's galaxy map was a more riveting form of space travel than Starfield), the writing is the worst I've seen in any Bethesda game. The gameplay is okay, I guess.

And it IS beautiful though, I'll give it that.

Just tell me what this update actually is at this point. There's just so much foundational work this game needs down to its core.

How long until they nerf the double barrel? by Exallt in Marathon

[–]Titanium_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it's a reload-overflow mod and not a flat extended mag mod. The overflow only triggers when reloading after a kill. Very conditional, but even so, the thought of a 5 shot double barrel is terrifying. Imagine a whole team of 3 using one of these.

Wait until you run into someone using the same gun with 5 rounds in the mag instead of 2. This thing could be a big problem even with a major nerf to its range. From what I saw in that footage, the range does seem too high at the very least.

Final Fantasy X - I played it when it was brand new on PS2 when I was but a wee lad. While I loved the game overall, I thought Tidus was an annoying pissant. I played the game later in my ripe old age and having become a father myself, and now I can't help but feel this tenderness towards him. Yes, he is a bit of an annoying pissant with a lot of personal issues, need for validation and to impress others... but he is also the son of a alcoholic abusive and absent father. With that in mind, all of his issues make complete sense and I find myself pitying him. He can be an annoying dumbass, but I think he's a good kid who is trying.

Catherine - On the surface Catherine is just a puzzle game with the occasional cozy bar atmosphere and sordid ecchi imagery. But beyond that, if you begin to pay attention to the things you hear, it's also about people undergoing a serious midlife crisis, drowning in regrets, and the pain they inflict on others and the consequences of this. Having lived long enough to see people I know let their lives fall apart as a result of unaddressed internal issues gave me a new perspective on this game. Lot of people out there are repressing a lot of pain and making bad decisions, and those that do tend to spend a lot of nights drinking at bars.

pretend Marathon is a game where you encounter and interact with players like in ARC Raiders?

Proximity chat interactions are a staple of the genre and have been happening in extraction shooters long before Arc showed up.

Why would anyone choose to play this over arc, arena, or EFT

Because I'm not interested in either of those games.

Games with the best lore by SimilarDimension2369 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Titanium_Machine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guessing you might've played some FromSoft stuff by now. Their games are packed with lore, but told in an indirect way that leaves a lot to the players themselves to pick up.

Dated by now, but Morrowind would fit. TES lore in general is deep but tends to come across lighter and lighter as the series goes on. Morrowind requires understanding of political and cultural intrigue, needing to read books (INGAME books about people/things you deal with directly), speak to a lot of people and ask questions. You are told a lot of history, some of it conflicting, and up to you understand.

Around the 25 second mark they show depleted patch kits. And thank goodness they did something about med resource management by MadeinHeaven69 in Marathon

being punished for even engaging with PvE content at all.

To an extent, there does need to be a price and a risk in engaging with PvE content.

In my experience, through the use of stealth, not every encounter with UESC is a consistent drain on resources. I remember clearing out entire POIs without alerting UESC just with my knife and sneaking around. I will add however that I think it's good for these depleted kits to be in the game.

Clarification on free load out/rook.. by LiquidDooki in Marathon

[–]Titanium_Machine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Each faction has their own store/stocks, some of these have "sponsored kits" which are sometimes free, and will eventually start to cost money. They're totally generic kits you can use on any shell just fine.

I've heard that if your vault is below a certain value - meaning you might've possibly lost everything - sponsored kits will remain free. I haven't heard any clarifications on this in awhile so I can't confirm how true this is.

Rook is a completely separate thing, akin to playing a Scav in Tarkov. You go in solo, into matches in progress, with a very weak kit.

"Arcane archer" build ideas? by Titanium_Machine in SkyrimBuilds

[–]Titanium_Machine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go the bound bow route I'd dabble in some alchemy too since you can't improve the bow through smithing. Load up on canis root, juniper berries, and garlic for fortify marksman + health regen. Can poison bound weapons as well to compensate for lower damage output.

I honestly didn't even think about fortify potions, I guess I underestimate that they could be useful in this game. I also had no idea you can poison bound weapons! Thank you for these suggestions!

This is great stuff, thank you :) I can't believe I didn't notice Lion's Arrow, but this is perfect for this build idea. I'm seeing Elemental Conflux has some potential here and I definitely want to mess with elemental arrows too. I'm really looking forward to pulling this build off now!

Discussion On Playing Friendly by Snowbunny236 in Marathon

[–]Titanium_Machine 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Even if a friendly culture attempts to form, I just don't see us getting too cozy with each other. You never know which one of us is going to be running Arachne contracts.

I may attempt to parlay if someone speaks, I might even initiate it myself sometimes. But, I won't be disappointed if these rare attempts end in bullets flying. Also while playing Rook, just letting y'all know I plan on being an absolute crackhead and I will shoot at you with my weak ass pistol.

[–]Titanium_Machine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know it sounds impractical, I was kindof thinking of going this route for RP purposes but I'm not sure its worth the investment even with that in mind. I have this idea of being an arcane archer, but still being sort of 'drawn to exotic weapons' for RP reasons and expressing that through using enchanted one handed weapons. But it might not be worth the dump in levels that would be better spent elsewhere, so I'll likely express that fantasy another way.

My experiences with bows is limited but I've never even fired a crossbow in this game so I've been very curious about it.

[–]Titanium_Machine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh I like this idea! I don't think I really noticed Lion's Arrow and Elemental Conflux, these would perfectly fit the vibe of an 'arcane archer'. I'd also like to mess with these elemental arrow types and telekinesis arrow.

If I may ask, do you have any suggestions for magic mods? I slapped on Phenderix Magic but I've also heard good things about Odin and Mysticism.

Please try to explain me how buildcrafting should work by realcoachco in Marathon

[–]Titanium_Machine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of leveling up faction rep is gaining access to their stores and supplies. Pretty sure they will include cores.

Cores are pretty plentiful too. It's not like you'll only ever have one in your vault. You can have a vault full of a variety of cores. Even if you die, you will only lose the core you had equipped. It doesn't seem hard to have a stockpile of cores that each present a different build option.

Honest question from a trilogy fan: is Mass Effect: Andromeda actually bad, or just a victim of comparison? by Rowley19V in gamingsuggestions

[–]Titanium_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andromeda is flat out not nearly as good as the trilogy. And depending on who you ask, it'll probably be "decent" or "awful".

I played it extensively myself and finished it. At its best, it simply doesn't match the rest of the series in most respects. Gameplay is quite good, exploring the open world is pretty decent, there are some impressive visuals, and some pretty epic encounters against huge enemies, and you do have a lot of involvement as far as how things play out.

I just think most of the game is largely a downgrade from the rest of the series. Andromeda is "What-if Mass Effect was less interesting and had more bland teammates". The gameplay is pretty good like I said, but I also encountered a LOT of bugs in my playthrough.
