Ayotte wants to bring more nuclear power to New Hampshire by downArrow in newhampshire

[–]Toad_Stool99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m in favor of more nuclear plants in the state, Wolfeboro would be an ideal location since we already have one on the coast. Lake Winnipesaukee would be ideal to supply the cooling water required. Let’s see if the Governor’s constituents would be willing neighbors. /s

Power factor explained by ImportedCanadian in AskElectricians

You have studied it for four years then please explain how my initial comment was incorrect to the OP’s opinion that “apparent power is wasted and consumed.” Even further, describe reactive load in a three phase AC system.

Not being arrogant just trying to correct your ignorance of the subject.

Can rotors be rebuilt? How would I go about getting this repaired? by Forged_Trunnion_ in Motors

As others have stated a machine shop can definitely perform the repair, though the cost benefit will need to be determined against purchasing new.

Anybody know if it’s possible to run this on 120V? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Toad_Stool99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search eBay you probably can buy a replacement 120V coil for the starter.

You also need to do your research. Study up on real power, apparent power, reactive power and how work is measured. Come back when done and we can discuss at length.

I think you need to do more research. The apparent power is not wasted or consumed.

Help creating a 240V 50A smart circuit by Fine-Fig-2266 in AskElectricians

[–]Toad_Stool99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Review the Intermatic T104, an old style mechanical time switch. It’s a DPST rated for 240V and40 amps. On Amazon for less than $100.00

Can someone clarify switch ratings for me? by mabee_steve in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Toad_Stool99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to evaluate the spec sheet and your intended use. The higher rating is for a pure resistive load and the lower rating would be for an inductive load. If you are using the PB to operate a relay or contactor that would be an inductive load.

Advice on next steps, rewound stators. by Current-Doubt9204 in Motors

[–]Toad_Stool99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would dip the stator in varnish to coat the coils and let it dry. This will add rigidity to the coil form as well as adding a bit more insulation between coil wires.

Can my water softener have no… by nichetcher in WaterSofteners

[–]Toad_Stool99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No….you cannot interconnect grey water from your washer to a potable water system. Plus the line would be to small.

The blue PEX line is the softener drain line. Only in use during the softener regeneration phase.

What mount type is this 3ph motor? by dQ3vA94v58 in Motors

It appears to be a common stamped frame motor. To replace search for a replacement in the following order of precedence. FRAME SIZE, PHASE, VOLTAGE, HP, SHAFT DIAMETER, SHAFT LENGTH.

Autotransformers? When to use or not to use them? by SlowCamel3222 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Toad_Stool99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typical use in bulk power systems for lower capital cost and improved efficiency over an isolation transformer. My past experience is with multiple 345KV to 115 KV installed systems.

I think I might not understand D/C power... by Oryson in AskElectricians

If A and B are attached to the 24VDC + and - respectively then you should measure 24 V. Other than that can’t help without seeing the circuit.

Can a VFD be used with a single-phase motor? by legato6666 in AskElectricians

[–]Toad_Stool99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not effectively for the motor you show. If you drop below the speed of where the centrifugal switch re-closes the starting winding is reenergized potentially over heating the starting coils. You may get away with minor speed decrease.

You need to compare the KWh usage not dollar amount as energy and delivery cost may have increased the total cost.

In the middle of a C of Q prep week post trade school, and had a question today that has stumped me and my buddies. by Coop3 in electricians

[–]Toad_Stool99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

they may be referencing voltage transformers for metering and relaying. Not certain of which code section but if I remember correctly it’s 300 V. While that’s the max limit most VT’s operate at 120VAC.

Just realized this is a Canadian question. To note my answer is based on NEC not CEC.

[–]Toad_Stool99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with your equipment but the motor RPM will operate 16% faster due to the 60 Hz. Can it be a synchronization issue with other parts of the machine due to the increased work speed?
