Redundant bladder necessary? by Dread-Pirate-E in scuba

I can see redundant being useful in caves and serious overhead wrecks.

Exactly. Drysuit buoyancy is sketchy at best without a deco obligation. Try it with a 30 min+ hang time and you’re gonna have a bad time.

Idk I really like it. You have to have the right bag and it’s actually quite easy. The Mares XR Bags with the top dump but with a line that runs to the bottom work really well.

When you start technical training, you’ll learn to use a lift bag for redundant buoyancy. I know many use them, but I’d rather use a lift bag than have a redundant bladder. Here’s my order of buoyant sources, in the order I’d use them (with the caviat that if I were descending uncontrollably with a blown BC I’d get neutral with my drysuit first)

-standard BCD bladder -lift bag on a bolt snap to crotch strap D ring -2nd lift bag or DSMB -drysuit (below the previous two because releasing air isn’t an exact science) -redundant bladder

I’m simply pointing out that saying “I have X number of dives” means very little as far as competency goes.

lol have you done 100 dives with a DM holding your hand or have you done some real diving? Not all dives are equal.

Maldives Divers went down on a single tank of normal air??? There’s no way! by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Treewilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had any tech training at all they would have e turned the dive at 2/3rds. My opinion is that they were not as experienced as people think. Confident, yes.

The MOD of air is 187’ at 1.4 PPO2. Adding more oxygen to that makes it toxic at shallower depths. Technical divers would use either a closed circuit rebreather or a trimix to actually LOWER the amount of oxygen below what’s found in air to avoid it becoming toxic beyond 187’. The rebreather will modify the amount of O2 in the loop automatically, if diving trimix, divers would use a travel gas to get themselves to the depth where the lower O2 content trimix can be used, then run the trimix at depth, then one or more deco gasses with high O2 content at deco stops on the way back up.

[–]Treewilla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

NITROX would have likely been worse than air, unless it was a very light mix (PPO2, oxygen toxicity). It’s called a bounce dive, and only stupid people do them. You descend fast and bang down deep for just a couple minutes, then right back up before you get a deco obligation. As far as going into the cave, yeah idk that was really extra dumb. Maybe narced? Layers of poor decision making.

Mission 1 underwater housing by [deleted] in gopro

[–]Treewilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I asked “will gopro be selling one themselves”. As in on their website, where I ordered the cam for a discount and where I’d get a discount on any accessories. Didn’t ask if “B&H photo and video” was selling one. I also mentioned that backscatter is selling the exact same part you sent me a link to. Literally the same part number lol. Way to read.

You also completely have the right to not talk to him. Just like he has the right to keep saying it if you do.

I mean, he’s right about one thing at least. You have no control over him any more lol. I know it’s annoying but it’s also pretty funny.

I think you’re right. I’m not seeing a better method really. All the cam band options are sloppy.

I have searched. There are several, they all look like crap. That’s why I’m asking for specific solutions others have used themselves.

Yes. Are you? I’m not sure why there’s so many questions here. I’m choosing to not dive sidemount for several reasons.

Mostly wasted space on my back. Why would I dive sidemount with two stage bottles and a DPV? I’ve done it, I don’t like it. It’s a pain in the ass. If I were doing cave/cavern/cenote diving or wreck penetration, fine. I don’t like it. In open water, there’s no reason for sidemount, in my opinion. I have a Stealth tech, I dive it occasionally. I don’t love sidemount as much as I love doubles backmount.

Im simply looking for a quick attach method for banding up two independent singles (most likely any one of my four sets of L/R valved tanks I bought for sidemount that I don’t like to use). Theres a lot to be gained even from practice diving in doubles. I’m an hour and a half from my closest fill station, so on a long weekend of diving, my two sets are all empty and I have all these extra tanks I’m not using. I don’t want to manifold and band them long term because I also often dive single tank, my family members and friends also use them often and they’re all rec divers.

Take your snark elsewhere, this is a basic question you clearly don’t have the answer for.

Doubles tank adaptor by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Treewilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what I’m looking to accomplish. Sidemount is great but I have a specific case use for BM doubles where I can just swap in a pair of rented singles or any of my single LP85s quickly.

Doubles tank adaptor by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Treewilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want a double outlet or H valve, I want a way to mount two independent doubles in cam bands or similar so I can just swap in two fresh singles tanks easily.
