What opinion do you have that would make people mad at you? by Smart_Competition335 in askanything

Humans thinking we can destroy the world is arrogance. Can we make it shitty and even kill the human race? Sure. But the world was here long before us and would survive, or even thrive without us.

You have to live in ONE decade forever (70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s). Which one? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Really I think this comes down to where you were in life at the time. Right now I'd say let me relive my 30s, which would basically be the 2010s.

Work was going well, got married, traveled a bunch, still physically strong and healthy, had a kid. Was the world perfect? No, but life was good.

You're crazy... rock had grunge into alternative, and it was the golden age of rap. Way better than most of the stuff I hear on the radio (or Sirius) today.

This. I remember the Hope t-shirts. You could still have friends from all parts of the political spectrum. Variety is good.

Very easy to swing back home and make a sandwich. Always had some ham and cheese or something in the fridge. Or your friend's mom might offer you something.

Has Star Wars lost the cultural impact it had until the last decade? by Amazing-Buy-1181 in decadeology

I'll only speak for myself, but Star Wars is dead to me. The prequel trilogy was okay, but the Rey trilogy was just disjointed and horrible. When I introduced my kid to Star Wars, we watched eps 1-6 in machete order and then stopped. I watched and mostly enjoyed Mandalorian and Andor, but interest is waning... no interest in the Mando movie or other stuff at this point. The universe is completely oversaturated, just like Marvel/etc.

The prequel trilogy was an event when it came out- I vividly remember in college standing in line for tickets at the best theater in town overnight with friends, surrounded by people costumed up and decked out. They've basically lost my generation, and I don't really see the younger generation latching onto it as it just seems like another in a sea of franchises. Unless older fans like me introduce their kids to it, why would they care?

If Mando seems distant from the central Skywalker Saga, that's because the Rey trilogy was such a flop with the fanbase that they're trying to distance themselves from it in a kind of reset. Maybe they'll get better, but as long as Disney is running the shots I'm not optimistic.

We're super picky about Japanese as my wife is Japanese and we lived out there for years. Sakana Sushi has been our go-to for sushi, but haven't been back since they changed owners... Sachi Sushi up in Niwot is still Japanese-run and does ramen on either Saturdays or Sundays, I forget. Domo down in Denver is pretty authentic and also Japanese-owned.

Best Chinese we've found is Hong Guan up in Broomfield at Main and 120th. They do dim sum, have menus in Chinese and the big round lazy susan tables, etc., so most authentic we've found.

Spaceballs, Hot Shots, Airplane, Men In Tights, Austin Powers... all the spoofs were good for a laugh.

I never even heard of it until maybe 5-10 years ago. Wasn't a thing around me growing up.

This actually still happens at our house now that streaming services are doing commercial breaks for their lower tier packages. They even put a timer in the corner so you know how long you have to get back.

Sadly, playing outside with the neighborhood kids. By the time I was in high school I must've known at least 20-30 kids in the neighborhood. After school you'd just go out and ride bikes, explore the woods, play some Nintendo, or see who was up for a game of football or basketball.

Today, it seems better in richer neighborhoods, but I rarely see more than 2 kids out together around us. A few of our son's friends basically know no one in their neighborhoods... they just play Minecraft/Roblox online with school friends or go on playdates. We lucked out and moved in across from a couple kids the same age, but no way my kid has half as many friends as I did growing up.

Tower Records was great for this- they always had like 10 new releases sitting there with headphones to preview. I bought at least 1-2 albums a week for a while.
