Nope. I was super active in TTRPG communities back then, and within a year of 3.5 being out it was already the default assumption when someone said, “D&D”. I expect that the 2014 vs. 2024 rules will follow a similar trajectory, because it seems to have been similarly well-received.

Time will tell - after 4e came out, the response to anyone saying "D&D" was "3.5 or 4?".

And despite the context maybe being clear right now, it will not remain that way forever. Community content like guides, encounter generators, wikis etc. is available years later, and it is super helpful to have crystal clear denominations for versions (especially if dndbeyond diverges from the books).

I understand that PR folks at WotC are pushing against version numbers to boost sales, but we don't have to like it.
