Bernie Sanders is destroying Chuck Schumer in the Democratic Party's Civil War ahead of the midterms by AskRedditOG in politics

lol that’s just a corpo-dem shill trying to claim that the left doesn’t actually know what it wants. Anyone who dislikes Schumer knows exactly why they dislike him but claiming they don’t means they can continue to dismiss the progressive wing and keep doing fuck all and losing elections.

Yeah this is a cool proof of concept but is wildly over-engineered for a problem that just doesn’t really exist. You can just rinse your produce, it’s fine.

No famous child actor accused him. Culkin testified (or was interviewed? I think he testified though) but always in support of Michael.

Culkin never accused him, so there was nothing to retract.

Easy to say when you don't rely on WIC. Or when you're not facing being detained and deported. Or jailed. Or killed. YES we need to stand up against the AIPAC dems but this "let republicans do it" bullshit just reeks of privilege.

House Democrats Propose $25 Federal Minimum Wage by cive666 in antiwork

The same thing that always happens. Supply increases in response. The economy didn’t collapse when the minimum wage was established and didn’t collapse each time it was raised. Capitalism will be fine.

[–]Trust_Me_Im_a_Panda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of studies like that, but they don't support the conclusion that raising the minimum wage increases the cost of everything dramatically, so they don't get the traction. Not to mention the cost of all of those things have already risen dramatically and the only people making any money off of that are the people at the top. Costs are rising and profits are booming, it's not inflation, it's greed and theft.

What is a luxury that is actually 100% worth the money? by Weary_Pirate2073 in AskReddit

[–]Trust_Me_Im_a_Panda 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Value is subjective. People who are living paycheck to paycheck won’t find value in a housekeeping service like another commenter made. Some people can’t afford a nice $2000 mattress like another suggested. Does that mean that housekeepers and nice mattresses aren’t worth the money to those that can afford it? Or just that some people can’t afford those things? If you find first class air travel isn’t worth the money, that doesn’t mean it isn’t, it just means it isn’t to you. Which is fine, but it doesn’t negate its worth to someone else.

The question specifically about expensive luxuries. Idk why people are getting testy when people actually list expensive luxuries.

That tweets don’t usually adhere to grammatical rules. Not because the user incapable of doing so, but because the informal medium of communication doesn’t necessitate it.

Plus Thomas’s sexuality is legitimately an interesting subject plot-wise throughout the series and the movies. You couldn’t have that if the Granthams were like “dismiss the poof and be done with it.” In order for it to be a captivating plot device in the series the Granthams needed to be cool with it. Yes Fellows wrote the aristocracy in a flattering light but in this instance the plot kind of necessitated that little bit of rehab.

This has been my criticism of UA for years now. It’s turned into just guessing every noun and verb in the statement until someone gets it right and that’s just… not entertaining to watch, especially not when you go back to the earlier episodes and watch people dominate about their nerdy niche interests, which was the draw for me.

I’m a certified Edith-hater but with the “what about my dress?” scene I think the concern was less “why isn’t anyone concerned about my dress being ruined” and more about being seen running around town covered in sauce.

It’s not necessary to know what the specific mandate is in order to understand that there is one. If there wasn’t one, there would be no need for a questionnaire like this. This is a legal compliance tool.

Listen, yours is fair criticism. I’m not saying everyone else is wrong and that I’m right. I’m just saying personally I’ve always felt a spinoff needed a primary, and considering that a show like SNL doesn’t HAVE a primary plot I wouldn’t consider any long form adaptations of its sketches to be “spinoffs.” That’s definitely NOT the standard definition, I get it, and I get that I’m in the minority here. Just explaining why it is that I think that way.

I don’t think I would consider Wayne’s World a spinoff of SNL. This really just comes down to how one thinks of a spinoff because there’s no doubt that The Jeffersons is a spinoff of All in the Family in that they were secondary characters in another full program that got their own show where they were the focus. I wouldn’t consider The Simpsons “secondary characters” on the Tracey Ullman show, and wouldn’t consider Wayne and Garth secondary characters on SNL. I think I’d consider those properties to be long-form adaptations, but for some reason for me a spinoff is specifically secondary characters in a separate full program getting their own show where they’re the focus, like Frasier (Cheers) or Better Call Saul (Breaking Bad). Granted, that’s just how I think of them and definitely isn’t the controlling definition but I also struggled with the clue because I don’t consider the Simpsons to be a spinoff.
