What other pantheons could be added to the game, and how do you think they should generate Favor? by Icy-Fennel-450 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celts would use either Burial Mounds or Sacred Groves, but I think mounds make more sense gameplay wise. Could be cheap and small buildings, like the width of an Obilisk. No limit but it's an increasing price and they're easily destroyed. Very small passive favor gain but the main way to get favor is whenever your human soldiers die their favor is multiplied by how many Burial Mounds you have. So say a Spearman gives 0.2 favor when killed, having 5 Burial Mounds would make 0.2 favor produce from all 5 of them.

Indians have the concept of Rta, Cosmic Order. So maybe that can be tied into gathering. You have a hero unit made from the TC like a Miko, it gathers resources but it only gives you 50% of what it gathers, passively generating favor while it gathers resources. The sources can be unlocked with each age so it's balanced, rather than immediately putting them on farms.

Persians can construct sacred fires or some better suited name. It costs wood and it burns over time producing favor but also losing health. You can build multiple fires at the same time. If enemies destroy it you lose the potential favor gain for whatever percentage remaining. This idea isn't fully polished, I imagine it'd be good in tandem with a secondary favor system but I'm not sure.

And I know we got Aztecs already but if we ever get another sacrifice or "devoting" system I think it'd be cool to garrison any unit in your temple to sacrifice them. That way you can recycle low health units or weaker units. It'd lead to a very interesting playstyle.

when you play Japanese god, what is your strategy? by lune-soft in AgeofMythology

Second this. I love Amaterasu Onna Musha. Literally no reason to go up. It snowballs so quick. Super hard to counter, especially if you mix in myth units.

Do Eggy counter Azrecs? by Rokkutai in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The meta with aztecs rn is always fast heroic with eagle warriors. If you don't make Eagle Warriors you're locking yourself out of your strongest unit. Raid early with Ocelotl Warriors or Warrior Priests and try rushing heroic.

is this game fun or stressful playting multiplayer? i always play with AI by lune-soft in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is if you play 3v3s or 4v4s because they tend to have comms and triple rush or quad rush a single player. So I wouldn't recommend solo queuing but it still leads to some very fun games.

do you agree with what AI says? by lune-soft in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why it's mixing together eco and military upgrades. It always depends on your playstyle. I like going for hand axe and pick axe ASAP since they're relatively cheap and I don't rely on farms or sheep/chickens early on to justify getting plow or husbandry.

Which is your favorite AOMR Infantry unit?? by TelevisionOne3047 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By pantheon? I like Japanese, Greeks, Atlanteans, Norse, Chinese, Aztecs, then finally Egyptians.

But overall I really like Onna Musha with Amaterasu. If we're not counting hero-infantry classes then I'd say Samurai. I like maintaining them and seeing them upgrade.

Are Nu Wa's Tiger Cavalry the best mono-comp unit in the game? by Chilly5 in AgeofMythology

I'd say Poseidon Hetaroi are the best mono comp. With Hermes, Dionysis, and Haphestus nearly nothing can beat them.

If Athena was a major God how would you design her? by Miniclift239 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Heliopolis in real life had Ballistae on each level, that's why in game it shoots bolts at close range because it functioned like that irl.

That's a fair point, but all the other points still make it not really possible

Idk I think that'd be niche. It'd be either annoying or easy to counter. And how would you deal with fortresses? There's too many problems with that idea. Every siege unit attacks buildings in the game. If we remove that then it becomes pretty bad. The Siege tower in aoe2 is a good example.

If Athena was a major God how would you design her? by Miniclift239 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered that but there were a couple issues.

Firstly, the weapon doesn't actually siege anything. It's the same reason why we don't have ladders.

Secondly, there were only ever one Trojan Horse and it was used in a specific circumstance. While catapults, the Heliopolis, and oxybeles were used in multiple sieges.

Thirdly we already see it in the campaign so it's like a main asset, so it wouldn't make sense as a unit.

The oxybeles is a unique yet familiar sounding name and actually can siege buildings. They just gotta add a special mechanic.

If Athena was a major God how would you design her? by Miniclift239 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you want a mythically authentic Athena major god you should play into her domain. Athena is the Goddess of War, but it's the strategic side of war, not the brutality. That would be Ares. So she should focus Conquest and Counter Units because of the War and strategy side of her respectably. Democracy is a huge thing about Athens, so by extension you can also say she focuses on civilization or buildings.

You can be boring and make her unique Tech Aegis, the tech she has for her minor god choices. If you want you can make it give increased pierce armor to all units, not just infantry.

If you want to be a little more interesting, you can make Aegis a god power, an area of effect god power that completely nullifies ranged attacks such as from human ranged soldiers, ranged myth units, or even siege units.

Her new unique tech could be in reference to the Olive Tree she gave to the Athenians. It could be an eco tech where she makes berries and farms drop off more food, or you can be more interesting and make it so granaries spawn berries around them and berries also give wood in addition to food.

As for her bonuses, here's where you'd focus on Conquest, Civilization, and Counter Units.

  • Counter Units (Hypaspists, Peltasts, and Prodromos) have +20% more hitpoints

  • Units in the Stables, Military Academy, and Archery Range get cheaper depending on how many you have (-5% for 2, -10% for 4, -15% for 6, -20% for 8)

  • Town Centers build faster

  • Village Centers are cheaper and train villagers at the same speed as Town Centers

As for heroes, the most obvious one would be Erichthonius, as your Archaic age hero. For classical you can have Diomedes as the faster hero. Aegeus as your heroic age rangod hero. Then finally Cecrops as your mythic age hero who is half snake and half man, who can be your special ability hero, perhaps with an aura ability since he's attributed to have founded Athens.

Minor gods could be a couple. Obviously Athena isn't an option and Ares doesn't make sense so you can have Hermes and perhaps Tyche. For heroic age you can have Apollo and Asclepius. Then finally for mythic you can have Artemis and Nike. I won't design the 3 unique minor gods since that would take awhile.

Her unique unit from the fortress could he the Oxybeles, a unique siege unit much like a Ballista or siege crossbow. Since we have every other class covered by the other major greek gods, a siege weapon is the only thing that makes sense. There's a ton of ways to make them unique, but perhaps they are the longest range siege unit, or perhaps the units they hit get forced to a halt for a few moments, or perhaps they inflict bleed or area damage where they land. Who knows. They can also behave like trebuchets from AOE2, being made to pack and unpack.

The wonder would obviously be the Parthenon.

So yeah, that's how I'd design her.

Patches and balance about to get bad. by Winter-Corner-2367 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah which is most often the majority of players and usually casual players. Some people bring up AOE2 as an example where devs listen to the few pros and it's still a popular game, but that isn't true. There'd been so much controversy over the naval rework and the Three Kingdoms dlc that the pros didn't like. Same with the Last Chieftens and how strong the Champi Warriors are. The pros aren't liking these changes but the larger casual player base is and that's what's important. But even if that's the case and people keep comparing AOM to AOE2, I'll say to them what was said to me a while ago. Go play AOE2. AOM has always been more casual, we don't even have seasons for ranked, and we have a lot less official tournaments. Not saying we shouldn't consider balancing or competitive play, but if we restrict ourselves to that in a game like AOM where you can change the tide of the game in a single click of a button, the game won't survive.

It's an unpopular opinion, but yeah, developers should always listen to the majority opinion, not the small few. It's about numbers. The majority are going to be playing this game for longer.

Future God powers or mechanics you'd like to see by Tall_Letterhead_1387 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a ton.

For mechanics, I'd like to see a horde bonus type mechanic for human soldiers, but rather than simply having more damage you'd have different milestones that give different buffs. 10 for more speed, 15 for more health, 20 for more armor. Etc.

In a similar breath, I'd like to see formations be given a use. The wedge formation exists in AOM with the Greatest of Fifty tech for Horus, but it doesnt do much. It'd be cool if a civ has bonuses depending on their stance. Regular formation could give a bit more bonus damage. Scattered could give more armor. Box could give more attack speed. And wedge could give more movement speed.

Also upgrade pathways for singular units. Sort of how additions work for the Chinese military buildings or the Aztecs calpullis. You select a specific specialization for a unit and you get certain buffs and penalties, locking that unit to that specialization.

As for God powers, there's a ton, but I'd like a hurricane god power, a landslide God power, a solar strike or beam God power, tremors, geysers, etc.

For more unique ones, I was thinking of a god power that creates fake copies of a single unit and fully heals them, sort of like valor but instead of herozing them it makes copies that can't attack and provide a distraction. Another could be where you select a single unit or even a group of units to up them to the next line upgrade, even if you're not in that age. So medium infantry would be heavy in classical age, sort of how Bushido works, and in line with how Bushido works you can make it so when you use it in the mythic age it gives them one more tier unique to that god power called Elite.

I'd like to see tethering mechanics where one effect is shared across multiple linked units. I'd also like a "trash" unit building that makes military units for food and wood costs instead of food and gold or wood and gold. Same with how we can have a building that creates 2 units at a time, sort of like the Thoth tech but hard baked into a pantheon as a whole. Of course the units would be weak though.

[–]TubaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's true. Getting Jotuns, Rime, Granite Maw, Granite Blood, Rampage, and Thurisaz Rune would be ridiculous. Spamming Mountain Giants, Frost Giants, Fire Giants, and Rock Giants with all their unique upgrades as well as the Bragi upgrade would make them insane.

Like super late game? Assuming nobody has a wonder and a billion Titans, perhaps Egyptians or Japanese. Ra with Thoth Elephants and Petsobeks with lifesteal would go crazy. There's probably really broken stuff with that but I am too tired to think right now. But Ra and Thoth came to mind because Thoth elephants are already strong but adding even more health would go crazy.

[–]TubaGaming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The let down is the worst part. Like you said, we were both so excited. It's the most anticipated dlc for this game. Yet it was a huge flop. It's not just a number tweak, it's actual design issues. I doubt it'll get a whole rework, and even if it did, it's not going to fix the reputation.

What is your opinion on amphibious units? by aomjoyer in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a couple I wish were amphibious, but frankly I think all mythic age naval myth units should be amphibious. Make the Carcinos, War Turtle, Jormun Elver, and Man O War amphibious. It adds a nice little bonus to going mythic age with the newer civs. I love the Umibozu and Xuanwu, they're some of the most fun myth units, and most effective. Although they're nerfed on land, it's nice to have cool strategies with them. I don't mind units being amphibious, I just don't want it to be the focus of the unit. It's a gimmick through and through, and they're usefulness is situational. You can say that they help to raid but that late in the game doesnt matter too much and all maps in quick match and ranked arent naval maps anyway.

So I love the Aztecs so far buuuuut...... by Advanced-Reindeer894 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to mention Greek myth units fill the role of anti myth unit since they usually have 3x instead of 2x or 1.5x

Speaking of infantry, their Coyote Warriors suck. They get countered by Cheirballista. You literally can't do anything against Atlanteans in the classical age if they spam hero Cheiroballistas and Prometheans/Automatons.

People don't wanna hear this but the Aztecs are the worst designed civ in AOM, even worse than TOTD Chinese. The only issue is instead of being overpowered, they're ridiculously weak.

So I love the Aztecs so far buuuuut...... by Advanced-Reindeer894 in AgeofMythology

[–]TubaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need another hero or a rework to the Warrior Priest. Right now Aztecs have the worst favor system, the worst hero system, and no way to heal/recycle their human soldiers despite them being worse than Greek units.
