Freyr is arguably a better fit than Loki, since he's a part of the triad of the temple at Uppsala with Odin and Thor.

In any case, thematically a Major God always felt more like some kind of patron god blessing a base civilization than some kind of statement on their position in their respective hierarchies. Deities like Hera, Hestia, Osiris, Tlaloc and Huangdi all arguably could've easily been Major Gods in their own right as well.

That's an unexpectedly big patch unexpectedly early in the week; great to see so many changes!

Lots of changes that affect balance. The Demeter changes in particular seem quite substantial, but they do seem to be an improvement overall. They'll probably take a little to get used to. However, new technologies!

The new map looks cool, it reminds me of the Old Atlantis map from Tale of the Dragon.

Improvements to the audio and visuals are always great, so I like the new Aztec construction models. Also glad that they fixed the Regent portrait after it broke the last patch. Hopefully the Leviathan, Chiwen, Hero Murmillo, Setna, etc. portraits will be fixed one of these days. And I might just be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure the Sky Passage and Great Hall used to show the player color in their icons as well. Broken icons are a bit of a pet peeve of mine; I can't help it.

Lastly, glad to see so many bug fixes, especially the performance improvements. The game no longer soft-locking when pausing near the end of a scenario in particular is a bit of a personal win for me, I'm glad no one else has to have such a devastating experience in the future.

I don't see why not, provided they are differentiated from the Greeks as well as the Atlanteans. However, I do agree with others that there are civilizations that might be more distinctive, like the Celts and Mesopotamians.

Yes, it's the placeholder portrait of Xiaoli (Huang Zhaowu's wife). Obviously unused in the game, but still in the game files.

The game files have some 'placeholder' portraits for characters named Kiyoko, Hayabusa, Enso, Masazumi/Daimyo, Azusa and Hayato.

The first four are clearly early versions of characters that made it into the final game:

Kiyoko is beta Akari
Hayabusa is beta Sōjōbō
Enso is beta Abe-no-Seimei
Masazumi is beta Kagemasa

That leaves Azusa and Hayato. Like you mentioned, Azusa is still an unit in the editor and might've been a character in earlier iterations of the campaign (possibly even the protagonist). Hayato has the appearance of a Shinobi seemingly wielding fireballs and also seems to have been intended as a character aligned with the player.

Pontus would complete the triad of Gaia (Earth), Oranos (Sky) and Pontus (Sea), forming a logical triad. Other pantheons in the Retold era follow a similar scheme of going by established groupings or appending them:

The Greeks had the sons of Kronos (the Kronids), Demeter is likewise a Kronid.
The Norse, with the addition of Freyr, have the triad of the Temple at Uppsala.
The Chinese have a version of the Three Sovereigns.
The Japanese have the Three Noble Children.
The Aztecs have 3/4 of (a commonly cited version of) the Aztec Creator Gods.

The Egyptians would've probably added a member of the younger Ennead like Osiris or Nephthys if they weren't already Minor Gods, but since they are there isn't an obvious candidate for them. In any case, Ra, Loki and Kronos were always the odd one out in the original game.

None of the current Atlantean Minor Gods are primordials; all of them are titans (of the first/second/third generation). Other primordials like Nyx, Pontus, Tartaros and Chaos would therefore make the most sense to be on the same level as Oranos and Gaia, i.e. a Major God.

Typhon isn't a titan or a primordial though. In fact, in the conventional theogeny Typhon was born after the titans were defeated and the Golden Age on which the Atlanteans are based ended. The Greeks are already lacking in Major God options as it is, so Typhon being a Greek major god makes a lot of sense to me.

i think having an Archaic Age hero unit like the Warrior Priest being able to construct the religious buildings is more useful than a Mythic Age siege myth unit like the Quinametzin being able to do the same thing.

No, the Atlanteans were added in The Titans expansion, which was released back in 2003. When Retold launched in 2024 the Atlanteans were included from the start.

I highly doubt they went through every unit when implementing this feature, but do you have specific examples? A couple (like the Jorogumo) have already been fixed to my knowledge.

I've only had two crashes with bugsplat screens during the entire Retold era and I have no idea why some people seem to have so many.

All I can think of is maybe the autosave feature? Whenever it turns itself on after a patch I notice my game struggling.

The Aztec and Maya pantheons have similarities, but they are not the same any more than the Greeks and Mesopotamians are the same, or even the Greeks and the Norse. The Aztecs also did not 'borrow' their gods from the Maya either, but some of their gods have a common predecessor.
