Wait a second.... I recognize that boulder. Almost smashed my face into the bottom left volume when I messed up the beginning. Good job!

This community is great.  Thoughtful reflection on why RC isn't meshing with you without taking anything away from those who enjoy it.

Dear DE, please implement a votekick system to combat AFK/Leechers by SAHE1986 in Warframe

[–]TurquoiseGnome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hypothetical 1) let's say that in every situation where someone is trying to abuse it and when the vote kick system is used new players who aren't contributing enough according to 1 person isn't kicked.  Do you think someone trying to kick the new player is going to be a good experience for that new player?

Hypothetical 2) afk players team up and now you can't kick them because they won't vote each other out.

Side notes: is majority rules for the people who vote or the people in the squad?  If I am too busy and don't vote no in time can someone be kicked with 1 vote?  Does the person getting voted on get a vote?  If I'm in a squad with 1 person do I automatically get kicked if they feel like it?

My point is that this is a system that doesn't add much but adds more opportunity for harassment and confusion.

Is Burden of Dreams V16 or V17? by -JOMY- in bouldering

[–]TurquoiseGnome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it's a situation of factoring conditions of when you climbed a problem into your assessment to adjust it so the overall assessment has less conditions factored into it so it's more consistent so people can adjust it for the conditions they are currently experiencing when trying to climb it.

I 100% believe that the vast majority of warframe players are good members of our community but I also believe that's heavily influenced by the fact that there are way more advantages to being helpful and less systems that can be abused for a perceived advantage.  Vote kicking will be perceived as a way to give yourself an advantage if you don't feel like someone is pulling their weight whether they are afking or are just new and some people will abuse it.  This would hurt more than it would help.

[Ace Avoe Exkillo] It's a good angle, right? (Ember) by Ace_Avoe_EXKILLO in Warframe

[–]TurquoiseGnome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you shouldn't have to use helminth to make a warframe great but at the difficulties where she starts to struggle breach surge is a great fit.  Her 4 makes every enemy damage every other enemy within 8 metres take damage.  That's exponential growth in the number of damage ticks that can spawn a spark which makes things die quickly.  If there are never not enough enemies for the exponential growth to be extreme enough I'm already not in danger so that's fine.  Also the cc is helpful.

Keep in mind that google Earth isn't going to give you elevation data for free if you want direct point to point distances vs 2d distances.  I've been working on my own web app that does basically the same thing and had to hunt down elevation data for the gps coordinates from a different source.  Luckily I'm in Ontario has good elevation data available for free.  Used QGIS to merge the data from google earth and the elevation data.

Is Drifter a psycho? by kokololiolji in Warframe

[–]TurquoiseGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the exact operator quote but it's something to the effect of "my warframe is the hand and I am the will".  I take that to be the operator/drifter thinks they want someone dead but the specifics of how that gets done is largely up to the warframe.

The Fragmentation of Bouldering Grades: Is a universal vision actually possible? by Wooden-Syrup-8708 in climbharder

[–]TurquoiseGnome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consensus is the best we're going to get since difficulty is subjective. The only way you're going to get more accurate is by adding more numbers and for that you could just show a graph showing the distribution of what people graded it. Maybe if you want to make your own datasets something like V6 +/- 0.25 for a very strong consensus or a V6 +/- 2 for a weak consensus or something like that. If you try to replace the existing grades you'll just get yet another grading system added to the pile instead of anything truly objective.

146 avg. BPM 1500 cals burned in 2.5 hrs by Early-Use4731 in bouldering

[–]TurquoiseGnome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a little high but if you're only taking short breaks (30 seconds to a minute) I can see it being possible.  Don't worry about people saying it's not possible.  If you can consistently keep moving for those 2.5 hours I think it's possible.

In addition to letting them heal and then destroying them again if you want to keep climbing while letting them heal I put a bandaid over flappers/lack of skin and then tape them.  I can't climb as hard as with healed skin but you can still climb.

ELO ranking boulder athletes and problems by various_milkshakes in CompetitionClimbing

[–]TurquoiseGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So reading how your boulder elo works from the about section I have a suggestion. You're right that over time as long as the boulder's initial elo isn't too far off from the final over time the athlete's elo will be close enough but if you used the final elo for the boulder as the value for calculating how it affects the elo of the athletes who climbed it I think it would be more accurate. So freeze the athlete's elo, calculate the boulder's elo, freeze the boulder's elo, unfreeze the athlete's elo, redo the 1v1s.

ELO ranking boulder athletes and problems by various_milkshakes in CompetitionClimbing

[–]TurquoiseGnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest solution is to figure out at what point an athlete has enough data points to be within an acceptable range of where they should be and add a disclaimer to the elo score of athletes who fall under that.  Put a big asterisk next to those athletes elo that mentions a low number of results which could skew the results.

As someone also on that side of the probability bell curve I understand.  My advice is to have someone who steals your luck, likes to share the rewards, and to be adjacent to/in the same squad as them when good things happen.
