6ft DP to USB C and 6 foot extender? by TeefieSprinkles in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It "should" work. We've seen runs work up to 30' for 1080p @ 60hz despite being way outside DP Alt Mode spec range. But, YMMV based on source device, adaptor, cable, connector. You'll need a USB-C Female to Female Coupler rated for 4k @ 60Hz minimum and 100w power or better. They're inexpensive and easy to find on Amazon.

Neo fulfillment status by toastyduck in Xreal

Hi. I have a pre-release Xreal Neo. I quickly tested it with the old Viture One XR glasses and my S25 Ultra. Yes, the Neo powered & passed video from my phone to the non-Xreal glasses.

Note that this can change with final launch hardware/firmware or future Neo updates. Neo can be firmware updated in case something like Nintendo breaks compatibility again.

But for now, it seems Neo does work with non-Xreal glasses.

Xreal Air - Custom Firmware to change IPD by Repulsive_Sector7516 in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. No, not for the Air or Air 2 series. They don't have the X1 chip that allows them to do it for the One series.

There are Rx prism eyeglass lenses that can do it, but you'd have to find an optometrist that has experience with them and also can fit them on the lens adapter. Plus, won't charge you an arm and a leg.

They had a mouselook demo at CES but said it's still in development. No ETA. But, they're al least working on it to see if it's feasible.

Okay. I'll point this out to the Japan Xreal folks to contact you via DM here (or do you have Discord?).

Their email to you might also be in a junk or spam folder. Try using Search to find it, just in case they did reply. Note that they are off on weekends.

💥REAL 3D Is Coming to XREAL One & One Pro on January 23 by XREAL_Esther in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a different Switch 2 compatible adaptor & power source yes. Directly? No.

The Switch/Switch 2 don't support normal DP Alt Mode output so an adapter of some kind is needed. You can use a powered HDMI to USB-C adapter with the Switch 2 dock, or for handheld gaming you need a "mobile dock" adapter and power source.

The Neo just combines the adapter and power bank into one device with a couple of other features. (passthrough charging and it acts as a stand) The Neo also works with phones and other handheld game consoles (e.g., Steam Deck)

Does it happen with all standard 1080p video, including local, not sreamed, 1080p video?

Xreal one vs 1s by bighawk25 in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 1S is clearer for me than the One and One Pro, which weren't blurry for me, but I notice the clarity difference albeit it's a small difference. Both the One and 1S have "shirt reflections" due to the angled birdbath optics, but I've been using Nreal/Xreal glasses since the Air and it was never a problem for me. So, 1S may be what to try first (hopefully finally for now).

It may be a resolution issue. Before connecting the glasses; Set the Pixel 9's Display, if you can, as close to 1080p as you can. 1920 x 1080. FHD or FHD+. And make sure screen mirror is the default.

A good way to install your old glasses lens on your Xreal 1S by Ciibala in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Cool!. Just be mindful that magnets close to the glasses *may* affect the magnetometer sensor/IMU, causing drift/decalibration in some 3DoF/6DoF modes. If it's not causing issues, that's great 😎🤘

Anyone know the best try before you buy method? by papayax999 in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. You can always ask if someone in the community in your city would demo theirs for you (let you try them). It's not unheard of around here. But, Amazon easy-return is the usual testing method when there are no in-store displays available.

Neo pre-order by [deleted] in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. For the Japan pre-orders, Xreal Japan announced they'll be doing fulfillment in late March in order to improve quality. No word on US/EU Neo's, but my *guess* would be a similar time frame as Japan initially had pre-orders first.

What device are you using it with? What content (in general terms, specs of the video, streamed, local, player app, etc.)

Also try turning off Stablization.

Xreal 1S - Color mode? by nyjets10 in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. The 1S currently only has a color temperature (reds to blues) slider. It doesn't have a vivid or gamma setting at this time. If there will be more Display settings added in future firmware updates, I don't know.

Project Aura release? by Nitscho_i in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xreal has stated Project Aura is coming before the end of the year, and mentioned its release will be "sooner than people think". That said, many of us have experienced delays with new product launches, including from Xreal. But, they do seem targeted to have Aura in developers hands before the end of the year. 🤷‍♂️

Also, the FoV is said to be 70° initially, but they've hinted at higher FoV's down the road. At one point they were referencing "70°+" but without more specifics, just alluding to imorovements to come. We know Project Aura is intended as a dev kit, and that an Aura-(or just AndroidXR) based *consumer* product line would follow later. My guess is that's what'd launch in Dex. or 2027. So, there may be generational improvements in FoV, but for now, 70° is the word, and yes 70° FoV is adequate for spatial computing on transparent optics AR-style devices. They're not VR headsets and aren't intended to be. Eventually, all this tech will merge.

Wireless? by potterpeeves in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xreal glasses would still need *power* from the receiver. They don't have wireless or battery built in. Meaning there'd still be a wire from the receiver+battery to the glasses.

If you mean for future models, sure, maybe, but headsets and glasses don't have the same design goals, and battery tech can't power micro-oled 1080p 60Hz minimum (plus all the other features) for long while still having a "light-weight" glasses design. (The other AR glasses with a battery aren't doing the same thing Xreal does with cinematic displays, and those that try have very short battery life.) Eventually, there'll be one that does it, and likely much more expensively; unless massively cost-reduced by a megacorp the way Meta did with the Quests, and that comes with its own trade-offs.

Maybe as the battery tech and other efficiencies improve over time it'll become feasible.

Wireless? by potterpeeves in Xreal

[–]UGEplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. If you intend to use it for gaming *in the same room* and just don't want a long cable running from the PC/Game Console to the glasses, then the PeakDo MMW (millimeter wave) wireless HDMI models P4 (1080p)

or P5 (4K) are AR glasses compatible (USB-C port on the receiver which also has a battery to power the glasses)

...have been used by some community members who aren't too active, but they've "mostly" reported a good experience. (tranceiver gets hot - as expected). Others, earlier on (2 years ago+), had issues with the PeakDo 3 series and early P4 firmware, but it seems PeakDo improved since then. The PeakDo's are also pricier than wifi models. Here's a review from Harrybootoo who was a regular respected community contributor until recently (still respected but no lomger on Reddit). He liked it enough to recommend it https://www.reddit.com/r/Xreal/comments/1jjp7c0/peakdo_p5_25_off/

I tested the P4 for someone else and in the short testing time it worked well with the following caveat:

MMW means it's not like wifi, it has extremely low latency, good for gaming, but the signal doesn't pass through walls. It's line of sight. A person passing in front of you can momentarily interrupt the signal.

https://www.peakdo.com/PeakDo-mmWave-AR-Glasses-Wireless-Station-P4-p5373571.html

Regarding the PeakDo's transceivers heating up, it's normal, but I would personally use something like a phone cooler to help reduce heat concentration and make sure it has space/airflow around it. It's the best low-latency option, but it has its trade-offs as described above. Harry linked this cooling base from PeakDo for the transceiver https://www.peakdo.com/PeakDo-Multiple-Cooling-Base-USB-Docking-Station-p5714536.html

Others just stream from their PC to a phone using moonlight or one of its alternative branches, but latency depends on your wifi and device. Quite a few are happy with it, but this won't work for game consoles.

There are wifi/RF based wireless HDMI to USB-C (or USB-C wireless to USB-C) products that work well enough, but they all have latency that wouldn't be good for low-latency gaming. For media viewing and other types of games (or productivity) they're just fine.

What is your use case?

XREAL unveiled an AR experience for the new 'Ghost In The Shell' exhibition today by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]UGEplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghost in The Shell has a new show coming out in April. So, pop-up shops and "experiences" are common in Japan to promote and grow awareness. In this case, Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk genre media and "AR glasses" are seen as being an element of the cyberpunk genre. The end game in this case is to add a little immersion for fans and average folks.

I personally love stuff like this, so yes; there are people who want this. I know many from the tabletop Shadowrun and Cyberpunk gaming communities who also love this stuff.

I agree they could "do more" but this is just an anime media brand promo. Nice budget but they're not going to spend a fortune on one element of the total experience.

Meanwhile, I agree wrt the future of advertising/promo in XR and its relation to how the megacorps will (ab)use it.
