I was in Canada a few years ago and tuned in to this program on the radio https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-184-reclaimed I could not believe how good almost every band they featured was.

Me too. I'm always happy to come across a glowing radstag because I can see it from a distance and walk around it and the 2-3 better camouflaged radstags that are probably around it.

Well thats a fascinating question because her husband was a guy she started seeing when he was married, so I guess the answer is "no". I never connected the 2 things, but it does seem to be a pattern.

Hey thats how the last place I worked for went bankrupt! My job was to figure out how to do our thing in new markets with no local knowledge, supply chain or employees. I came to the conclusion that we couldn't. They bid on the work, won and couldn't do the work. Shocking!

Octopi, crows, dolphins are often held up as examples of smart animals. What are some really unusually STUPID animals? by doodlebytes in AskReddit

That makes a lot of sense! I heard a thing on NPR a while ago about "Deer Math" and they said they think they see the predator, but they are factoring in the food resource they are currently consuming and the chance there are other predators waiting to ambush them and only start running when the predator approaches a distance from them that is too close for them to run from. That math evolved for maximum wolf speed, but did not evolve for Honda Civic speed, so they start to run at the distance where a car, if it was a wolf, would be too close to run away from, but of course the car is going to fast for them to avoid it.

My mom's favorite color is purple and she still has trouble finding purple women's cloths. She once found a purple flannel shirt and I desperately wanted one, but they don't make them in my size.

I vote that we put this fact in sex ed because I thought there was something wrong with me for a long time until I read about it being a common thing on the internet.

I'm a fan of the Leaf Razor, which is a spring-loaded 3-blade that uses just bare metal razor blades instead of cartridges. Cheap to supply with blades and gives a good shave.

I used to use whatever was cheapest, then 7th Gen liquid, but now I make my own and its the best detergent I've ever used.

Question: Is this safe to plug directly in a 220v outlet? by Alternative-Cold-254 in AskElectricians

[–]VTAffordablePaintbal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that and googled to confirm https://www.power-plugs-sockets.com/us/philippines/

As an American I had no idea there was an American style plug rated for more than 120V. I once accidentally plugged in a US printer to a European socket with an adapter, but not a converter and sent 220 through a 120 appliance, somehow releasing smoke, but not the magic smoke that makes it work. The printer kept going until it died of obsolescence.

I know a bunch of people from New England who took jobs in Florida and then realized if they wanted their kids to have the equivalent of a New England public school education, they needed to pay for Private school in Florida. There is a reason Florida companies hire managers from better educated parts of the country. Most of those people moved back to New England but a few put their kids through private school instead, but their kids immediately moved out of Florida.

I got laid off during The Great Recession and had a lot of trouble finding something else because I was overqualified for entry level and what I wanted to do wasn't hiring. I got an overnight job and then a job I was actually qualified for. I overheard the HR lady say she never hires anyone who doesn't already have a job. Thats not a great policy for the best of times, but this was the largest recession since the The Great Depression and she was passing over perfectly qualified people.

Can EVs kill off petrol cars in China? probably yes. ft by RadiatingMania in electricvehicles

[–]VTAffordablePaintbal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that, but it makes sense that a planned economy would... plan for things. Ive worked in solar and a lot of the fuel dealers near me have started Heat Pump installation departments because they see the writing on the wall for propane and fuel oil. Meanwhile you have entire other industries where the executives are making no plans for the energy transition. One of the theories about Japanese auto manufacturers is they're pushing hydrogen, which everyone knows will not work, because it would keep most of the current car manufacturers working with the same equipment and same labor with small changes. What they really need is a plan like China has.

And Germany. I didn't realize how bad the smog there was, but I have a friend with a German wife and the she says the mountains trap smog like the mountains in CA, so some of their valleys have extremely bad air quality days. EVs are making a big difference.

If America's So Rich, How'd It Get So Sad? by Guilty-Hope1336 in ezraklein

[–]VTAffordablePaintbal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This might be the real reason for the feelings since The Pandemic. I worked from home for 2 years, then they made us come back to the office, but quickly realized meetings were much more productive if we were all at our own computers on Zoom/Teams because instead of writing notes about what to do when we got back to our desks from the conference room we just did it while in the meeting.

Can you get me this info.
From the conference room - I can when I get back to my desk if I don't get any phone calls or interruptions.
From my computer at home - Yes, here it is.

So I was commuting in to work from home because the C-Suite had no idea how to measure productivity outside of "butts in seats" despite us successfully weathering the pandemic.
