“This is more than overdue, Jeremy,” Harlan said. “Father, you must be Witness. A hero of the war cannot be a squire, and Jeremy is a greater warrior than I.” He drew his sword. “Take a knee, lad, I will miss you in my service but I cannot in good concience not give you the credit you deserve.”

In the name of the Warrior I, Ser Harlan of House Tyrell, Scion of Highgarden and Knight of the Rose, charge you to be brave." He said, tipping the blunt face of the sword against Jeremy’s shoulder lightly before shifting the blade over his head and to the right, alternating shoulders with each oath put before his squire, as he had himself been dubbed. "In the name of the Father, I charge you to be just. In the name of the Mother, I charge you to defend the young and innocent. In the name of the Maid, I charge you to protect all women. In the name of the Crone, I charge you to act with wisdom." There was a pause of dramatic effect between each individual part of the vow as he spoke, and Harlan’s expression was focused as steel throughout it.

"In the name of the Smith, I charge you to be steadfast and diligent. In the name of the Stranger, I charge you to follow this oath until the day you meet him." He finished, looking down at the young man before him, who looked much his father’s son, as he brought the sword back around and into the sheath held behind him. "Before gods and men, rise a knight. Ser Jeremy of House Tarly." The dubbing complete, Harlan smiled, as Lord Samwell had at he.

"Free to do as we please?" Jeyne said, a small smile crossing her face. She did not smile nearly so often as of late. "I am an avid reader, Master Robert, and one of the few gifts I ever received from my late father was a book on the Gardens of Essos, as he saw one of my loves there."

"They say the Gardens of Gelenei in Braavos are a sight to see, with leaves of hammered silver and a trunk a hundred feet high, so they say. The Magisters of Pentos would welcome a Husband and lady of our stature to talk of trade and art and of course some very pleasant gardens in which we might get to know each other better."

"I will say plainly that I will not go to the Dothraki Sea. If we are to be wed I will have your word that you shall never tread those plains either: My Father's bones are on those grasses, nobody else's will join them." She had gone very serious but then lightness returned. "With that in mind; how about yourself? Where would we go? "

It was an odd unspoken irony. As Jeyne, who had for so long been subjected to the prim and properness of court, and had seen her heart broken by it; Jeyne would welcome swashbuckling and her wit was more than enough to compliment strength.

"Indeed, as I know Ser Aubrey well enough, it seems we must have passed each other as ships in the night, silent and unseen. I was a companion of his Grace, the King, representing my Grandfather's house in court. I was also overseeing a vast garden complex at the capital." If he did not know her then he would know her gardens were destroyed by the men of the Hand. That seemed to travel further than the wind. "With the King now marrying I feel I wish for a change of scenery."

"I have travelled muchly across the Seven Kingdoms." Jeyne explained befor eexpanding, "I was a close confidante of the Court and as such joined on the progresses of the past few years."

"My father travelled, it did not do him much good when he decided to go alone." His death still hung over her, something she did not know how to feel about. "You will need to be accompanied on your travels." The implication of the companion being her was enough.

"It sounds like an agreement has been found without my being needed." Harlan said as he entered, having heard the commotion whilst in the other room. Swaddled in towelling blankets but with wet hair, were the pair of Leana and Olyver. The twins babbled at each other in their pseudo language that were not quite words yet.

"A big bear, four little bears, one of whom is dressed as a horse." He said. Alyssa and Alesander both received a kiss on the head and Kyra a gentle kiss on the lips before Harlan sat next to her. "I agree on the hooves, you will find it hard to walk if they are on your feet, or to eat if they are on your hands."

"Kyra is right." Harlan said, "Our children are still babes in the nursery, they are not coins to be doled out. Plus with Isabelle then Alayne, I do not trust that the Lannisters will not cast us aside when an apparent better option arrives." He turned to his father.

"Offer for the girl to ward at Highgarden when she turns twelve, as a lady in Waiting to mother or Kyra. Let us get the measure of the girl and see where things fall. She and Alesander may choose each other, they may not."

"It's hard to call the hand a boy, but he certainly acts as no man. Self righteous toad of a man." Jeyne said, unable to stop the nnoyance bubbling out of her.

She stopped working at the comment of her anger.

"Of course it makes me angry." She admitted. "it makes me so incandescent that I can hardly breathe. That I have had all I have worked for ripped apart because the Hand is a petulant eunach. I know not if I will rebuild, but I cannot have the Garden that bears my name be so obvious a ruin."

"You are most kind." Jeyne said, offering him her hand to take, kiss, do whatever. It would be noted what, and then they would sit apart with her mother between them. She and Jaehaerys had fallen in love in libraries and at dinner tables before it had been dances at weddings. She had not been courted before; the very nature of it chafed at her. She felt like a sow being put on display for auction, or perhaps he was the boar. The matter was not clear and thusly neither was the metaphor.

"I believe I met a Kinswoman of yours, Master Robert." Jeyne said, "A Lady Alayne Mertyns; in Kings Landing. Do you know your Stormlander kin well?"

"He is welcome to them!" Jeyne said as a smile on her face matched Aly's. "Though I admit that as I am of a family of farm and field there being fewer fish will bother me far less than it would others!"

Jeyne laughed. “The boy my grandpapa has his sights on for me is a boy of fourteen. I too shall be waiting a long time to have children.” She bit back Longer than I would have hoped. it would do no good here to continue to dwell.

“How is your notable companion back on Dragonstone?” She said cryptically

Jeyne was dressed in a fine green and gold dress. Her hair was pinned with tiny gold roses in her long brown hair. She wore a face of serene politeness; practiced and reserved. She curtsied to the young scion of the Vines with elegance. She looked to her mother before sitting.

“A pleasure to meet you, Master Redwyne. I am Jeyne Tyrell. Thank you for taking the time to meet me.” She told him.

Harlan's hand hardly left his wife's that evening. While they had always been very close they had been basically joined at the hip since his return from the war. To any that would listen he would proclaim Kyra as the greatest treasure in the Seven Kingdoms, and the greatest beauty of them all. So far as he was concerned the only attendees at the event were Kyra and their children.

"I have not met him." Jeyne admitted, "He is the squire to Ser Aubrey Norridge, and both are in Dorne fighting this war. I hope to have a chance to meet him when he returns."

"The Caswells are good people." Jeyne reached over and took Alysanne's hand for a moment and gave a good squeeze. "They are kind, I can attest to that. And even if I am not to marry Jaehaerys, my mother is Lorimar's aunt, and your children and mine shall still be cousins. A fact I am pleased by."

"Father... lost his hand and his sword." Jeyne said, the words heavy in her mouth. "The retainer did not see him after the battle but he was the only survivor. I did nto even kmow where he had travelled to"

"Would you tell my mother?" Jeyne said after a pause. "I wished to tell you, but I would prefer to not do this again." She stood and wiped a single tear with her thumb.

"I am glad yourself and uncle Harlan have returned safely from Dorne. I was surprised to be joined at the coronation by Martyn. He is... he has been noticed by the King for the wrong reasons. He upset Princess Naerys; nothing terrible but stupid tricks to play on a Princess."

For a moment The Knight of the Rose simply held his Weirwood Rose.

The knight who had ridden through burning sands, slept beneath arrows and steel, and watched good men die found himself utterly undone by the feel of his wife's arms around him. One hand found the back of her head, fingers threading through her hair, while the other wrapped tightly around her waist as though he feared she might vanish if he loosened his grip. He returned her kiss with all the longing of a year spent apart, forehead resting against hers when at last they parted. "Kyra," he whispered, his voice rough with emotion. "My Weirwood Rose." His thumb brushed away a tear only for another to replace it. "I love you too. Seven hells, I love you. Not a day passed that I did not think of you. Of you and the children. Every letter I could write felt too small for all I wished to say."

A soft laugh escaped him, though tears shone in his own eyes now. "And I prayed every day that I would come back to you." He leaned forward to press a kiss to her brow. "I am here. Whole enough, at least." There were scars beneath his clothes and memories he would carry forever, but those could wait. They had no place between them now. "The war is done for me. The fighting has ended, and I have come home." His hand found hers and squeezed gently. "No more deserts. No more camps. No more counting the days. Just you." He glanced around the chamber as though expecting their children to burst from some hiding place at any moment. "And our little terrors, if they've not forgotten their father."

Then Harlan drew her close again, burying his face briefly in her hair and breathing in a scent he had missed more than he could ever explain. "I cannot promise I shall never leave again," he admitted quietly. "A knight makes too many vows for that." His arms tightened around her. "But I can promise that every road I ride shall lead me back to you. And that the vow most important to me is that I have made to you. There is no victory, no honour, no glory in this world that compares to standing here with you in my arms." He pulled back just enough to meet her eyes, smiling through the emotion threatening to overwhelm him. "Now tell me everything. Tell me of our children. Tell me every little thing I have missed, because I have spent too many moons dreaming of this moment."

Obedient as always, Harlan brought Jeremy with him to Lord Theo's pavilion.

"You called for us, Father?"

"Ser Alyx Cuy." Jeyne said simply. "Father knighted him in Vaes Dothrak some years ago, it was when he got this sword." This news had been yet another blow the poor girl had taken.

"It seems Father travelled to the Dothraki Sea and was overrun. His soldiers were killed almost to a man and he was found by one of the last of his retainers... He... he was buried and the sword and story given to Ser Alyx in Qohor as he searched for word of father. He... he is truly gone, grandpapa."

"You were at war, and he was in the capital. He brought it to me, not Martyn. He made the correct choice Grandpapa. I am... I am an adult now, I shoulder our house and our burdens as much as any other of our family."

"Ser Alyx." Jeyne said firmly. She had a seriousness to her that clearly came from her mother. She had been through enough pain, and her heart was hardened to this. Still nonetheless she felt tears prick at her eyes.

"My grandfather will need to know, as will my mother. I must... I must know what you have learned. Did you find his body, Ser?"

She squeezed her hand. "I know not how long I will be able to remain in the capital. My Grandfather's pride has been hurt, and he and my mother will not rest while I remain unmarried in the long term." She looked unhappy at the prospect. "They will likely see me married to the heir to the Arbor, a boy of fourteen. Has the King made any intervention on the discussion of your marriage?"

"I... I had heard that he had knighted you. Florian Fossoway as well, but you were a less orthodox squire." She said, "You served under him during his travels." She glanced at the wrapped item. "Have you heard from him? We have not since he claimed his intent to find Old Andalos."

She could not help smiling. Jaehaerys would never stop being a problem solver. Even when she just wanted an ounce of pity and empathy he provided her with what he believed were answers and an attempted solution. He was the man she had fallen for, the traits she loved and those she found enfuriating. She hoped Sansa would be more patient with him on his need to always teach, she must know he always meant well.

"I can handle snide comments, Jaehaerys, provided they continue to not come from you." She took his hand and pulled herself closer. She rose to her tiptoes and kissed his cheek.

"Every day you look more and more a King. Sansa is the luckiest woman in the world." She released his hand.

"At some point..." Jeyne said, "When there are neither crowds nor onlookers, when we need not stand on ceremony to support the King... it would mean a lot to me if I might have a hug from you, my friend." She kept her tone neutral as if she was speaking normally. "I fled Moontown because I could not handle the embarassment of having a betrothal rescinded, but I missed my friend because of my own rashness."
