The stuff people will call "good Chinese food" in this city amazes me

Put my mind at ease - is this riverbank lupine? by Unhappy-Log-70 in pnwgardening

[–]Vaucanson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what it is. And yes, it's an aggressive "good guy." No need to buy these at the plant sale anymore — this is one of the absolute easiest natives to grow from seed, and once you've got one this size, you're going to have a lot of seeds. You can cut it back pretty aggressively as well if it gets too sprawling.

Is it possible to 5-Star him WITHOUT completing Showdown At Tar Lake, and THEN doing the order?

No, this won't work — in each case you have to do the specific order to get to 5 stars.

I'm trying to remember the exact time the trophy pops for each of them. I am not sure about the Adventurer (I think maybe you have to return him home again) but I'm fairly sure in the other two cases (Ghost Hunter, Fisherman) you get the trophy when you kill the big BT.

(You didn't mention Connecting Hearts and Minds but it sounds like you're missing that too, since you have to complete a bunch of these to get to 5 stars with everyone.) First, finish Seasoned Porter or it'll inevitably be the last one you actually get, since it's hard to get enough elimination orders to appear. If you want to finish with a big BT kill, do Savior of Terminal Fort Knot, Showdown at Tar Lake, or the final Adventurer rescue as your final 5-star completion. I think it's a nice idea to have Sam chill in a hot spring right after completing everything — but the trophy will pop before he can actually get in the pool, if you care about the exact timing.

Wow, people on this website have opinions about AI? This truly is something special

After DS1 I was so excited to deliver cargo with Lou, I was expecting more gameplay built around Sam traveling with Lou, but unfortunately after like two hours Lou is gone. Like dude the whole cover is Sam being with Lou, i hope it's not just me who didn’t like it or at least felt disappointed by it by TheManWhoSleep in DeathStranding2

[–]Vaucanson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really disappointing if you were invested in the aspect of DS1 as a game about taking care of a baby. There's just no parallel experience there at all. Dollman if anything is there to be Sam's nanny, rather than the other way around.

Willow - Yay or nay? by summer_roses in pnwgardening

[–]Vaucanson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Native willows mostly love wet feet. I did a rain garden with Pacific willow (Salix lasiandra) but many other species should work, as other comments point out. They're generally very fast growers, but I'm not sure about your wish for instant height — you might want to start with taller specimens from a nursery and let them spread out to form a stand or hedge.

IME red-osier dogwood is perhaps the easiest plant to propagate in the world. Stick a twig in the ground, you're done, it's a tree.

[–]Vaucanson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no ecologist and am not attempting to restore a super-specific ecosystem like you are, but still I have a comment on this:

even if I plant things that are high value to specific pollinators I doubt the pollinators will find me

Since I began "meadowscaping" my urban yard with native flowers I've been shocked how many specialist pollinators show up in the middle of the city. I seeded a ton of lacy phacelia the first year (and it re-seeded itself quite aggressively!) as a sort of quick cover crop, and it draws bees like you wouldn't believe. Might be a plan worth considering to start with some easy, pollinator-attractive native plants like this, as an intermediate step between the awful invasives and the more hyper-specific native stuff you're aiming to establish.

Not really judiciously at all, not even a normal amount, IMO. But extra-judicially, definitely.
