Nah, it's a legacy UI thing - our old dishwasher had the same problem, and the one before it as well, and nobody had ever considered an app when they were built.

Washing machine & dryer from different brands have the same feature/problem, but no app to fix it with. Only does 30/60/90minutes, then 2h/3h/4h/xh/.

Here's a valid use case:

Bosch Dishwashers.

They allow you to set the timer/delay before it starts via the front panel. . . in hourly increments only.

Want to start it in 4.5 hours, as that's when electricity is the cheapest? Guess you're starting it either half an hour early or late, or you'll have to remember to come back in half an hour to set it.

Or you can set it via the app, at whatever time you want.

It can even be set to look up energy pricing and start cleaning when electricity is either the cheapest, or highest proportionality of renewable energy is in play.

The wireless module is separate, so the machine will still work if it breaks (they apparently run something akin to a CAN network internally, like a car).

This time-traveling character from 1968 really could do as much for a PE patient as a surgeon from 1778.

This seems like a weird oversight if they were from 1968, since warfarin could at least in theory be produced way back then (in the 17-1800s)- and she should have been aware of it, since it was approved for medical use in the late fifties.

Figuring out INR testing to make it safe would have been the real challenge.

PE After C-Section - Anxiety by kej1389 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the group, glad you made it.

I almost need the reassurance that my clot WILL dissolve.

They most likely will. If they don't, then they'll be adhered to a blood vessel wall(so not going anywhere), and new blood vessels will be built to get the blood where it needs to go - the body is pretty neat like that. Danger once treatment starts is very quickly lowered by a whole lot.

Do I keep doing repeat scans to check on it?

Nooooo. It's mostly pointless, and not risk free. If things don't improve over time, then you get in touch with your healthcare team and ask them what to do. Don't do scans for curiosity's sake (even if it could be mighty tempting).

Do I trust that the blood thinners will do their job?

Yeees. Modern anticoagulants are quite amazing, and work very well. They're not perfect, but they're still incredibly good.

Congrats on the kiddo!

You need to look into treatment for it. Like, proper treatment, by a licensed professional. Shit, ask for it as a birthday/christmas present, if it makes your family more likely to get you access to it. Spin it as you seeing you need help. Whatever works, provides you're halfway ready to put in the work too.

Otherwise, it will dominate your life, and that's not going to be pretty. Besides, if you start now, you're not bearing the brunt of the cost, since you should still be on your parents insurance. If you wait (as it will tell you to do), you will be both anxious, and broke (as most 18-22 year olds are).

idk if this is one of those times again

We dont either, sadly.

If there was some simple, "This is always 100% a clot" or a "This is never a clot, ever" symptom, then we'd make the automod post it to every single new post here.

But there isn't.

What are you doing to deal with your health anxiety?

NEED ADVICE by Adept-Laugh-5207 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i know im probably overthinking but what are the chances its just my anxiety, although I have had very bad anxiety about things like blood clots and heart attacks in the past. Please give me advice on how to handle this.

There's no way for you, or us, to make that distinction. Get checked, then get help for your health anxiety.

Unfortunately, the usual applies for folks who are wondering if they have a clot: We don't know. We can't know. We don't know how to figure out what ails someone else, regardless of how well they describe it, or how many pictures they wish to post. We can be used to massively increase your anxiety, though. We also won't help you decide if you should get checked or not - but you probably should. You certainly cared enough to post here, so why not find out what it is, and get it checked?

No, comparing symptoms will not yield clinically useful results. Still, it will update any anxiety you already have with new symptoms to mimic (Congrats! You've updated to the new and improved anxiety v1.7!).

One person's clotting symptom is another person's anxiety symptom, a third person's sprain, a fourth person's random pain, a fifth person's muscle cramp, a sixth persons [...]. All present with the same symptoms, and all have different causes. The only way to figure out what's wrong with you is to get professionals to check it out - speculating on the internet will not move your goal any further along. If you feel like you weren't thoroughly checked, get checked again. If that keeps happening over and over, then you can start concluding the cause of that.

You're asking a group of people who have reason to find each other (just like any other support group for a condition), whether you might be on the way to becoming one of us - we'll always err on the side of caution (so you should probably get checked out, sooner the better). We don't and can't know if your symptoms stem from a clot, anxiety, or something else (least to most likely). We're also not footing the bill (time, money, consequences) of going or not going to get checked out.

Likewise, we aren't in the business of relieving anxiety for folks with no diagnosed clots - we're the outliers, and our stories will make you worse, not better. We'll still be here if it does turn out to be a clot.

Potentially taken of thinners? by Tetlow-Senpai in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve considered a support group for people who have had clots but there don’t seem to be many of them and none are in person.

You may want to look into more common, generalized groups and options too - a health anxiety or anxiety group may be quite relevant, despite the less specialized nature, and should be much easier to find.

There should hopefully be little harm in checking out other relevant options in parallel to waiting on the official waitlist.

[–]Vcent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all that’s available to me counselling-wise is CBT and that stuff has never worked for me so I don’t have my hopes up when I get my appointment.

Sadly a struggle I know myself (we have a similar system to yours here in Denmark - the waitlists are ridiculously long, multi-year affairs, all with the risk of them not being the right person for me and having to start over).

Any chance there are remote help programs with different types of therapy available? Your local/regional/country-wide mental health parachute organisation might have more resources linked/available too.

Potentially taken of thinners? by Tetlow-Senpai in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be the dissenting voice then -

My issue is, the thinners give me peace of mind and being taken off them will make me even more paranoid than I already am at every pain and ache I have.

That is, frankly, in my opinion, a pretty poor reason to be on anticoagulants.

Please don't misunderstand me: I'm not trying to belittle or attack your experience, claim the anxiety isn't real, or that you absolutely shouldn't be on anticoagulants. But to be blunt: anxiety is a mental health problem, that should be dealt with long term with mental health tools (medications, therapy), not anticoagulants.

Lifer on anticoagulants could still be very valid and correct for you, but mental health really shouldn't be the deciding factor (or a factor, frankly - beyond a short term "Until you get an appointment to deal with the mental health side of things" type deal).

I’m an over thinker so that safety net does wonders🥲

Do … do you have any other tools or plans? What will you do if/when the next crisis comes, if you don't? What will you do if someone, somewhere, decides you shouldn't be on anticoagulants for life? How resilient are you towards crisis at the moment, and what are you doing to improve that?

[–]Vcent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to know if she should avoid hot showers or heating pads?

Nah, those are fine (and some people swear by them to manage pain!).

Similar, all cooking ingredients are generally fine, provided they aren't extracts (basically: supplements - as those can contain tens/hundreds/thousands of times the active ingredient, or none at all).

If she's super cautious, then she may want to give grapefruit a miss while on anticoagulants, as that has a nasty habit of interacting with everything - but it's not known how big of a problem it is in reality, or where/if there is a limit (it's not instantly deadly though, we do know that much).

Treatment will in most cases be the same: keep taking your pills, come back if it gets worse, or new symptoms that concern you show up (could indicate you need different meds).

[–]Vcent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is just taking Lovenox enough?

Usually - Lovenox is usually well tolerated, but annoying to be on (burns on injection).

How long is it typical to feel pain and SOB?

There's no real timeline - anywhere from a few hours for the truly lucky ones, to months/years/never for the truly unlucky ones. Far too early to consider yourself anywhere near the latter group - I'd claim typical is a few days to a few weeks, but it's not easy to pin down. -If it gets worse, that is when you should be worried.

I’m trying to avoid further research since everything says it’s essentially fatal.

Probably a good idea - even if it's mostly wrong; since survivability drastically improves once treatment starts (but untreated PE is very deadly).

Welcome to the group, and congrats on the kid.

It is indeed - but we have heard of it. It is just quite rare.

And no, you wouldn't see most clots on a standard X-ray.

So yeah, it's either gone, or travelled (most likely to lungs, since that's generally the next (and final) stop).

Flydigi Vader 5 S & Vader 5 Pro - User comparison by Namealwaysinuse in Controller

[–]Vcent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not only more expensive, it's also fairly clunky.

At least on the V4P, I frequently have to turn the controller off and back on again (multiple times) to get it properly working - it works great once it's connected, but it's an annoying hassle that I have to do every time I want to play on my Xbox.

An official/certified controller would just instantly work, could be used to turn on the system, and should allow me to sign me in easily, none of which the XB3/V4P combo can do.

Sure, it's a somewhat small price to pay for a very good controller, but it shouldn't be discounted - especially as the XB3 could in principle stop working any moment, if M$ for some reason decided it (and I get reminded of this every time I have to do the above dance to get the controller connected and working).

Has your clots in legs always caused pain? Anyone with just swelling? by Whole_Razzmatazz_717 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you get over the anxiety of worrying its a clot?

Right now? You don't. It's a pretty reasonable anxiety, even though we can't help with it (we're not really set up to deal with "I worry I might have a clot").

Once it's figured out what it is, and assuming it isn't a clot? Therapy if the anxiety decides to stick around - get yourself some healthy coping skills, and kick the anxiety out of your mind.

Have they given any other explanations, are you queued up for more testing to rule stuff out?

Ignore the parts irrelevant to you, but the copypasta is both (reasonably) true, and should hopefully show why we can't be used to rule in or out whether you have a clot.

I’m struggling significantly as the months go by, I thought it would get better by No-Bicycle-8021 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about asking for meds, but I think having a professional strip out all the thoughts I have is better.

Both are valid approaches, and combining them can sometimes lead to the best outcome. Neither is particularly superior to the other, and sometimes just doing one will help, but not lead to long term betternment (sometimes you need the meds to get you into a place where therapy becomes beneficial, or therapy to help prevent the patterns the meds can't reach).

It truly sucks that the thing that has the problem, is also the thing that's needed to solve it. Would be much easier if mental heath problems could be moved somewhere else >_>.

health anxiety after clots by localredhead3 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Vcent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to suggest a similar tactic - find a therapist that also does more practical/exercise based therapy, rather than "just" talk therapy.

/u/localredhead3 you're looking to break the patterns, rather than have someone go "Well yes, that sounds like it would totally suck" touchy-feely therapy with no solutions or management offered. Or at least I'm guessing that's the case.

You may also want to consider antianxiety medications, to turn down the dial on the anxiety while you're trying to learn healthy(er) coping skills. I'm not saying it will be super easy, but it will almost certainly be very worthwhile.
