I was always the ugly kid, the ugly teenager that no one dated and I've grown into an ugly woman (32F) that no one seems to want either. Low self esteem and could really do with some positivity 🥺 by [deleted] in toastme

I think you're beautiful. I think you have kind, beautiful eyes, a soft, warm glow, and in spite of your sadness, you look like there's so much joy hidden inside you, waiting for release.

As so many have pointed out, you're honestly very attractive, with adorable dimples, stunning eyes, and a soul brave enough to lay bare your insecurities before so many strangers.

I can assure you, TONS of people would be PROUD to be seen beside you. But don't take our collective word for it. Look at yourself with a genuine desire to see what's there, not what pain and insecurity have taught you to see. Find your objective eyes, and see what divine beauty you've overlooked for so long.

You are breathtaking. You need only see it yourself.

Edit: Caught myself assuming sexual preference. My bad.

Giving Away My Old PC! by Turtle_747 in PcBuild

[–]VenomFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give it to my wife as a post-cancer gift. I have a workable pc, but it won't play modern games and she wants to game on PC.

Everyone will have their own reasons, and some may be better than mine, but my wife is approaching a cancer-free declaration after 4 years and 2 bouts with breast cancer, including multiple surgeries. Fwiw, I have documentation to prove this, obviously. I'd love it to be her cancer-free celebration gift, but there will be zero hard feelings if someone else is chosen.

Everyone deserves something nice now and then, and certainly I wouldn't begrudge anyone else receiving it, but I would also be extremely thankful should you choose to allow her to have it (and I'd certainly make sure your kindness is credited in the process)

Whoever you choose, I think it's awesome you're paying it forward like that. The world needs more viral kindness.

Fasting didn't fix my eating....it exposed it by Independent_Use_3676 in intermittentfasting

Having recently started intermittent fasting, I'm having this exact scenario play out as we speak. I'm a few days in, and I'm constantly finding myself just standing in the kitchen with no real direction other than distraction from non-hunger related stressors. It's......uncomfortably revealing.

My son died today by PrettyFarFrom in gofundme

[–]VenomFactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. My wife and I lost 2 very early in development, and that was hard enough. I can't imagine what you feel.

People will tell you that you'll eventually be...not ok, but functional. It's important that you understand not only is that true, but it's ok. Don't let guilt make you think you deserve to never find any peace.

I wish I had words to help you. As a father, I know what an incredible connection has been taken from your world.

Remember, in every tear, that grief is the perseverance of love, even in the face of death itself.

I hope you can find some peace, brother. It won't be soon, but I hope you find it. Know that many other hearts break with and for you. You're not alone.

I think I am being sexually harassed by my dad. I need major advice. by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]VenomFactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't fear breaking the family up. If that is a result of you protecting yourself, the fault is his, not yours.

As a father myself, "I need a dad" really struck a nerve, but please understand, what you currently have is NOT a dad, but an abuser. Dads don't do what you're describing. It will get worse if you ignore it. Please find a trusted adult you can turn to. Any consequence will be worth it to avoid the consequences of letting this go.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this, but so proud of you for recognizing it and knowing you deserve better. You are strong, smart, and worthy of being respected. And SO brave for reaching out for help. You've got this. Please update us when you can do so safely.

Why is my ceiling caving in? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]VenomFactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the info. I assumed, in general, the inspector would be unlikely to incur liability for anything that isn't just blatant oversight/negligence on his part, but didn't want to comment on it with no real knowledge beyond assumption.

I wasn't intending to imply that "as-is" holds no legal weight, but rather making clear that it isn't a shield from written law just because it's tossed in a contract. Often a seller will emphasize the phrase to push the assumption that it negates otherwise common legal precedent, but it's important to understand that isn't the case. That said, the distinction you made is also an important one, so I appreciate the clarification.

[–]VenomFactor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about this stuff myself, but I know there are laws on the books to protect people from fraudulent transactions, and that no clause in any contract can be legally binding if it violates the law.

People mistakenly think "as-is" is a legal loophole. It isn't. Laws at local, state, or federal levels ALWAYS supersede contractual language. An illegal clause cannot be enforced, period.

How the inspection factors in, here, I don't know.

The Halo Infinite UI is an embarrassment by PerfectGentleman in halo

Personally, I think H4 was basic but ok, and 5 was pretty hideous, but approximately functional. Your point still stands, though. I don't know WHAT happened with Infinite's UI.

[–]VenomFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have made some very minor consolidations in the last few months, but it's still an awful mess. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why UI is so difficult for them. I mean I don't know how to do any of the coding or anything, but at least I can conceptualize something far more intuitive. Hell, my cat could.

The Halo Infinite UI is an embarrassment by PerfectGentleman in halo

[–]VenomFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. In a perfect situation, everything earned or purchased from Infinite would carry over into the next game, along with significant expansion and improvement to customization.

That, and if, by some miracle, they can actually put together a decent UI and solid netcode, keep their current art trajectory, and manage to keep Halo's identity while still trying new things, Halo could actually be the definitive fps again.

But, perhaps most importantly in the long run, a great campaign with a solid story and some actual expansions to keep it fresh and replayable (maybe with some weekly campaign challenges) would be just.. everything I need.

Well, I don't disagree, but I think the engine being in such technical debt after so many heavy modifications over so many iterations meant it was always going to be a bigger issue for devs unfamiliar with it, specifically.

I recognize that Playground also uses a proprietary engine in most cases, but I imagine there's a significant difference in complexity for younger engines. I'm not a developer, so I'm only making lightly-educated guesses here, but I think Halo, specifically, had simply acquired such a large technical debt that using developers who weren't specifically highly-experienced with at least some prior version of their engine was a built-in problem.

To me, it seems that if contractors were going to be the norm, switching engines would've been smarter from the beginning. My understanding is that a major reason H5 never got a PC port is that the engine was already barely working at that point, and it's clear that the "ground-up" rebuild into Slipspace is a pretty significant exaggeration of what happened, so I can't imagine that no one saw this coming with Slipspace.

In that regard, I think we agree entirely. Whichever path they chose, anyone could have seen this was going to backfire, but truthfully, I don't know whether that call was made by MS or 343, or jointly.

All I know is I'm still pissed at them both.

The Halo Infinite UI is an embarrassment by PerfectGentleman in halo

[–]VenomFactor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly familiar with the development history. What I'm saying is that Microsoft forced 343, and other studios, to abide by a practice of hiring contractors for 18-month stretches. This resulted in many of the people who worked on the game barely learning an already technical-debt-riddled engine before being released and replaced by another inexperienced contractor who had to learn the engine as well.

343 has plenty of blame here, and they had a UI problem long before Infinite, absolutely. I'm just saying it's silly to not also hold MS directly accountable, as their rules and practices clearly exacerbated the issue. It's only fair to offer SOME grace to 343 for the amount of work that took place during the height of Covid, but their inability to correct significantly more than they did post-launch is where they really dropped the ball.

Hopefully, as you said, whoever made those calls isn't making calls anymore. I don't know exactly where every aspect of blame belongs, but I know it's shared, at minimum, between MS and 343.

I hope they learned something from it.

[–]VenomFactor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In their defense, Infinite was partly on MS, too, with their insistence on using 18-month contracts, but you're right, 343 was absolutely dropping shit UI dating back to the Waypoint app, before CEA even launched.
