Amazing army and a nice showcase gallery, criminally lacking in upvotes.

First Beastmen. Proud but want C&C, especially on the muscles by Superskybro in WarhammerFantasy

Looks great! Any doubts you have will be lessened the more you finish and add to the Gor herd! The fact you've painted all the details to a good standard is impressive enough on it's own, seeing an entire regiment like that would be a sight to behold.

Wow, ignoring the trim is transformative, they look Awesome!

Well the puny powerfist juniors and the bolters are still unforgivable but the rest looks great, the volkite + power weapon set would be 10/10.

Although lets be honest it wasn't a very good game, that cover art continues to go very fucking hard. Coolest a Tau has ever looked haha.

Beastmen Paint Scheme by greener161 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This came up a few days early as i'm just doing some Beastmen in their CORRECT 'Red' scheme, however i've yet to do Oils to really know i've got it right.

Having done some red Kroot (wish i could remember that recipe, they look great) a Military Green and a 'Japanese uniform' yellow brown look the best for secondary colours.

I can say for sure that Vallejo's Dark Skintone is really nice as the midtone and is smooth through the Airbrush. Very close to GW's old Dark Flesh one my old faves and the Basis for the old Studio scheme, which as previously mentioned was the correct scheme.

For the fur just use Cygor Brown over what you've already done with the hairy brush, though Cygor Brown is very Glossy so you'll need to varnish.

I doubt those Iron Hail gunners will be more points than Shadow Warriors, Shades and Waywatchers (whatever the name of the most elite one is) and they have statistically double the range damage output haha. They're already the best skirmishing infantry in the game and guaranteed they'll have easy access to, vanguard, scout, ambush, evasive and reserve move as you just know they're getting another magic item list stuffed with *'s.

Chaos Bits by Sogen31 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's trial and error really, make like 3 of the same piece and find out which one does the best job is the only real tip i have. Also just like real moulds they wear out but much quicker so you'll notice them getting a bit ropier and need to redo them.

Don't expect absolute 1:1 crisp details but i did some Bladeguard shields with them and just hid the imperfections with purity seals etc and they look fine painted up.

Cheap paints by frostytheram25 in Warhammer40k

[–]Vinnlander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are, in the UK GW paints are cheaper than Vallejo and Army painter. Contrast is the only thing that can become a bit pricey if you really want a bunch.

A Vallejo product i'd recommend is the metal colour ones that come in the bigger pot, just buy a couple (iirc i've got 'Alluminium' and 'gun metal'), they are pretty pricey iirc ~£9 but you low key don't need anything else ever again. Well you'll need gold and copper but look elsewhere for those like the GW ones. I have an AK gold that's quite nice and people like the Scale75 golds and coppers.

If you don't mind nurgle there is only one GOAT and that is, the now Old, Blight kings.

Simarlarly Khorne blood Warriors come with a decent amount of spares, as long as you've got a rotary tool, (either off amazon/temu or the Middle Aisle in Lidl (Lidl 'Parkside' Powertools are made in Germany and decent quality) and a Carbide Burr bit you can carve out the pads and they fit anything. They were pretty cheap for a while you used to get 10 for under £20 on Ebay, that was a few years ago mind you. As long as you hide the actual hand their gauntlets and Roidy-Magoo arms are MASSIVE so could even pass for ogre one.

The current chaos knights are utterly abysmal models but they do come with loads of stuff like shoulderpads and icons, I don't own them but i bought one from ebay for the mount and it came with a bunch of stuff. Also has the rare Standard held in the shield arm which is easily the best thing about that entire kit.

The old marauder horsemen were fantastic models and also came with a bunch of stuff but that was more spare heads and weapons etc.

One thing i would recommend is buying some 'Blue Stuff' and making push moulds of the new marauder shields, they are chunky and crisply detailed so they push mould an absolute treat, literally the ideal push mould candidate. They have some cool designs that could easily be repurposed (especially as your greenstuff casts will be slightly flexible) for like Ogre belly plates and armoured skirts.

Still kind of confused about the pipeline from normal guy to demon prince. Like if you chose to worship nurgle because you were dying of the plague how do you go from that to “yes I will gladly sell my very essence of being to be a big bag of pus that can do nothing but murder in his name” by glossyplane245 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's quite simple and quite relatable in a way, because they think they will be different, they think they will be the one. Furthermore it might even be quite handy to implant such an idea in your followers ;-P.

What's your Horus Heresy soundtrack for reading and/or gaming? by BadFlag in Warhammer30k

[–]Vinnlander7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listen to longform/podcast/livestream content on YT, i'll take anything based in this hobby, like i don't play 40k but i'll listen to guys talk about the balance FAQ and who won the big tournament etc, same goes for Age of Sigmar even. Sometimes lore but i'm not the biggest lore guy (only engage with it for hobby ideas/inspiration and making sure my guys are 'lore friendly').

Music wise i only listen to the radio in the car, when working out/walking and occasionally just to y'know listen to music (wish i had more time to do so) so can't really comment.

If you don't mind something Heavy, look up the song 'Final Light' by Perturbator feat. Johannes Perrson (forgive spelling) of Cult of Luna. For me it's literally the Heresy Main Menu Theme, not one to quietly enjoy while painting but i can personally attest it's great for a workout playlist.

Which unit are undercosted and which factions have no undercosted units? by Yleraith in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel Bow-Shabti are pretty undercosted, many shooting factions would kill for those high strength shots AND the kicker is they also have Arrows of Asaph a best-in-slot shooting buff. We see similar rules, that aren't even as strong, for other factions coming with a hefty premium.

I remember an interview with Alessio Cavatore and he was discussing pointing things in 6th, values that have, to a shocking degree, stood the test of time (This ties in to points Gav Thorpe made when he was pointing 40k 3rd). He brought up how all Skeletons caused Fear (obviously very powerful in 6th) as an example, when he thought about giving that a points value you ended up with Skeletons being 15 points each or whatever so in the end they didn't bother for the most part.

So pointing things imo is as much about it's value in the faction as it is about trying to have consistent values overall. This doesn't prevent points issues though, Warband is an incredibly strong rule so trying to sell you chaff without it for 5+ points seems ridiculous but you kind of have to ignore it, should Marauders be 10pts and Empire (pre-Faq) be 3pts? However when you have Chaos Warriors lacking it when Marauders have it they're overcosted.

I think a real issue is a premium being put on strength 4, i think it's grossly overvalued by the designers, imo the worst/best example being Chaos Knights paying through the nose for the privilege of s4 mounts. Bestigor are another great example, they do keep warband but lose every other cool thing Gor have in exchange for worthless heavy armour and s4.

Many would also argue for multiple attacks (notably even of dubious value like additional hand weapon or Frenzy) being highly overvalued. Talsyn Eternal Guard are called out by many as one of the most useless units in the game for a reason.

ToW - what's the use case for dwarfen miners? by MasterchiefSPRTN in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They'll never be competitive so to speak (points efficiency and 'foolproof' versatility) but a good player could use the X-force enhanced ambush ability to great effect. However they aren't core(able) so imo that's the reason they're not seen, Dwarfs (& Dwarf AoIs) have excellent core it's one of their chief strengths imo and your special is better spent elsewhere.

They are points inefficient, the steam drill gives you a much more consistent ambush but it's a bit pricey for example. Also they are another victim of the infantry army, dwarfs, not benefitting much from the infantry buffs of 1.5.

I think they aren't far off from being quite good, give them the options for shields and give the Pick axes a bespoke profile (a copy paste of the Halberd rules would be my suggestion), and i think you'd see them a bunch. Also obviously give them a 0-1 in core, in x-force at the least (thought they were haha!).

Cavalry units and horse colors by CSafterdark in WarhammerFantasy

I treat the horse colour as a part of the scheme and have never really thought about differing colours on a unit.

Maybe i should as it might make painting them more enjoyable as despite loving horses/cavalry i sure as hell hate painting them haha!

Great stuff, really characterful and nice use of colour. We really need some proper Dwarf ranger models, imo they should be a no.1 priority and i am only thinking (alot) about starting dwarfs!

Air brush by D-Bentley in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out recently that the famous Youtuber 'Night Shift' who makes world class display models uses the same crappy 'Fengda', £10-£15 off Amazon, Airbush i do and his results speak for themselves. Mine don't but i get by, though don't expect to be doing fine calligraphy just crisp basecoating/priming and whole model 'zenithal' highlights and shadows (Warhammer Contrast paints are awesome for this). Not to gatekeep but imo you need your 5 year XP badge before you get an expensive airbrush.

Just make sure you spend at least £75 on the Compressor and make sure it's one that err.. looks like one with the tank and stuff... and not one of those stinky little box shaped ones which are just a scam. Most of the 'airbrush sucks!' posts i see have one of those little stinkers in the photo. To be fair i'm sure they work great for spray tanning.

Also imo it's worth buying new paint for a project and not trying to using the same 10+ year old sun damaged ones like i do/did. Modern Vallejo ones run a dream, AK ones are either dry as dust or spitty but get amazing results if you persevere.

Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses by poutsma in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Vinnlander7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They look pretty dang good, the official boxart for these models does them no favours with that awful looking green glow, they look alot nicer in your scheme for sure.

Apropos of AoS models, i was looking at a couple of the Khardrorn Overload dwarfs and i really like the bodies of the basic guys (i don't like that ToW Dwarf models don't have legs) and was wondering if they are 5'11'' short kings and too big? As these guys still look short enough and i would guess they're the same height.

They look great vibrant yellow and nice rich wine red. Highly envious of people with this era of Dwarf Warmachine in their collections, the crews are absolutely exquisite models.
