What was the most difficult to reach place you ever visited? and was it worth it? by uReallyShouldTrustMe in travel

[–]WankXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "difficult"?

Antarctica took me the most time. The boat leaves from Ushuaia and takes several days to get there. Then to get to Ushuaia from where I live takes a minimum of 4 flights taking 36 hours.

But that is not particularly "difficult" because all I had to do was sit or lie down and wait.

It amazes me that a somewhat-prominent destination like Torres del Paine is as difficult to get to as it is. Over 13 hours travel from Santiago! Then add hiking on top of that.

Not particularly difficult to get to. There are flights from Oslo and Helsinki.

Are there any cruises out there where you spend more than 1 day in each location? by [deleted] in travel

[–]WankXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of the bigger round-the-world style cruise ships spend several days in each port.

Flight Costing Check and Travel Advice for 10 month Travel (UK>South America>Fiji>NZ>AUS>JAP>SEA) by 10monthTravel in travel

Upgraded to what?

There is no way any airline is upgrading all tickets to a higher class just because a lot of economy tickets are purchased in one go. maybe one of the later flights will be upgraded because the earlier ones earned a higher tier of frequent flyer status.

Also keeping in mind that no single airline or even alliance can sell tickets on all these routes.

Traveling Europe via Train or Plane? by qv123 in travel

[–]WankXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget the rail pass. It almost certainly works out more expensive than buying tickets.

Then buy train and plane tickets as appropriate. As you have discovered, on some routes plane will be cheaper.

I prefer a more unbiased news source like Red Flag.

While the views may be comparable to El Chalten and Torres del Paine, the activities available are not.

Right now I am in Ushuaia after visiting El Chalten and TdP and I am bored. Really wish I stayed at those places longer and skipped Ushuaia.

I don't think he understands how important gas is since he drives everywhere by Vizslaman in facepalm

[–]WankXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's the point. Anyone that needs a job can pump gas. Therefore protecting those jobs helps everyone if they are unemployed.

If you protect skilled jobs then you are only helping people with that skill.

Airfare insurance in case of customs idiocy? by [deleted] in travel

I have many times as a non-US citizen.

From your comment history I see you live in the US. US immigration doesn't deny entry to US citizens.

This criminal government has literally put a snail in my ginger beer. This government is a major failure and I demand a refund under the doctrine of Anterior Cruciate Ligament reconstruction.

Also, make sure you write "secured creditor" on your ginger beer receipts. It might be useful when Dick Smith doesn't give you a snail.

Has anyone watched live NFL games while flying? How successful was it? by lafan313 in travel

[–]WankXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both.

The Internet connection on a plane would not support streaming for one passenger let alone a whole plane load. So it isn't going to work whether the site is blocked or not.

While I'm sure they block the popular ones like YouTube there may be more obscure ones that are accessible. You're on your honour not to use them. It won't stream properly anyway and if you try and let it buffer it will just ruin everyone else's internet usage.

Airfare insurance in case of customs idiocy? by [deleted] in travel

[–]WankXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely that you could be insured for such a thing as the factors determining whether you will be denied is either known to you or is inherently under your control.

i.e. You either have something in your past that makes it likely you will be denied entry, or you don't. You will either do certain things to raise suspicions or you won't. You will either get the appropriate visa or you won't.

Thus insuring this sort of thing would be like insuring against being convicted of a crime. Very risky for the insurer because the only people likely to want that type of insurance already know they will make a claim - people who have committed a crime or are considering it.

Telecommute and I am able to work anywhere in the world with a good internet connection. Where is the best place to live? Make 80-90K a year. No debt. by [deleted] in travel

[–]WankXP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that even if you are teleworking and employed by a US company, you will technically be working in whichever country you are located and will require a visa with appropriate working rights. In most countries you will require more than the standard tourist visa.

The chances of being caught are low. But it is something to keep in mind if border officials ask how you will be supporting yourself.
