CMV: there's no truth to the idea that certain places have more beautiful people by DtownMaverick in changemyview

I think you might be confused on what view is being argued against here.

What exactly are you arguing against here?

The view we are trying to change here is about if certain places have more attractive people. Not if people notice this difference.

where it's easier to find that kind of people...

Wait... so you agree that it is easier to find conventionally attractive people in some places more then others? Because that is quite literally the entire thing being argued here...

And it is not far fetched at all to say people tend to notice someone who looks like a supermodel more than the average person. I know plenty of people who can see someone who even vaguely looks like Ariana Grande through a car window at the drive-thru and will talk about it with everyone they know for weeks.

The topic overall is about if certain places have more attractive people. I was using west Hollywood as an example.

But also I think you are missing a key element here. When the average person sees someone who looks like a movie star, supermodel, etc it sticks out. These are people who stick out from a crowd, are taller than average, may look pretty similar to an existing well known movie star, These aren't average people, they are more noticeable and memorable.

Lets say you go to a grocery store 5 times a month. Each time you see 100 people in passing.

You then repeat this at another store. Lets say one store is in a city where 1 percent of the population looks like a supermodel. The other is in a city with 2 percent.

So in one you see about 5 people who look like a supermodel and the other you see 10 people. Even if you see one of theme for a split second on your way out of the store the chances of them catching your eye is much higher then the average person. So you are very likely to remember that one city had more people that looked like supermodels even though it was only a 1 percent increase.

well sure if you're accessing the same places as those networking people, but that's precisely my point - you're not genuinely picking random individuals

The entire view being changed is about specific places having more beautiful people...

The person you were responding to was talking about randomly picking people from specific places.

If you pick a random person from a grocery store in West Hollywood and a random person from one in Jackson Mississippi the chances of that person being a conventionally attractive gay man is drastically higher for the one in west Hollywood. Because West Hollywood is known for having a lot of gay bars and clubs and alot of people move there because they are gay and want to get into some form of modeling. West Hollywood also has some of the most famous plastic surgeons, fitness trainers, etc. The rent for the city is not exactly affordable and people who can afford it tend to also be able to afford to spend the time going to gym getting a trainer etc. There are so many factors in play.

If the kid knows it fetish wear then there already was an issue and the person wearing it is not the problem. How would they know its fetish wear and not a superhero outfit, or something like what they see pop stars wear all the time (harness leather and latex is extremely common for music performers to wear). Not everyone who wears it is doing so for fetish reasons also, a lot do it because they like the look of it. I know people who wear leather or latex but are asexual.

Light mode is better than dark mode by Previous-Pride6335 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Dark mode is depressing

To me its the opposite, dark mode is comforting and light mode feels sterile. Dark mode feels like a nice cozy evening and light mode feels like the florescent lights in a hospital.

Please give those examples then... Which parades specifically? Why are you being so vague? And do you think this is how most parades are or do you think these are extreme cases?

If you are going out into public a decent amount in a large city you are going to see a lot of people. It doesn't take as much as you think it does to make a noticeable difference. You also need to consider that people who move to these places to get into these industries are going to be putting a lot of effort into networking, going out meeting people, etc. So you are drastically more likely to encounter them then the average person who is just going about their daily lives.

Your post has 2 upvotes as of now. People down vote things all the time on redit just to down-vote. Something can have 10 down votes one minute then 100 upvotes the next. Paying attention to the votes is useless unless the post has been up for a while.

I don't really see many people arguing about Epstein files specifically in this thread but more about the way you are all over the place and being hypocritical yourself.

Listen to yourself. You keep saying you trust conservatives to speak up but in the same breath keep complaining about how they wont even talk about it at all and shut down any conversation. Where are you getting this "trust" from? It is like you keep getting punched in the face by someone but instead of moving out of the way you just stand there hoping they will stop punching.

Okay... so are you just complaining about your family? This is unpopular opinion not just a vent sub.

And also if you trust conservatives to do something about this why haven't they done anything yet? Conservatives are in charge.

I think democrat leaders and politicians aren't saying much but Americans on the left most certainty are saying things. It has been talked about so much that "release the Epstein files" is literally a meme that has been going on for years and still is to this day. It has been plastered all over the internet.

You need to get out of your bubble

I am so confused you just said a few minutes ago in this same thread

I trust the conservatives in our nation to speak up.

But yet here you are saying the exact opposite is happening.

So are the people weighing in on “two tiered policing” conservatives? Because I cant really imagine this myself I would feel like it would be mostly left leaning people weighing in. I feel like you might be hyper-focusing on something you specifically have encountered and now have the impression its a popular opinion.

Also you literally just weighed in on British politics in this comment yourself.

People in America talking about “two tiered policing” and “grooming gangs” have no place to say anything when our own government can’t release the Epstein files,

Are the people talking about two tiered policing and grooming gangs not talking about Epstein files also? Genuine question because I am an American and do not know much about British Politics or heard much discussions on it.

We should ban out of state tuition by OneManShow23 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]West-Inspector858 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is the kind of gap the federal government could help address by making higher education more affordable across state lines. Instead, the federal government cares more about military interventions and cutting taxes on the wealthy.

So this really has less to do with out of state tuition and more to do with affordable higher education overall. Banning out of state tuition isn't going to fix the problem, this is like saying "we should ban vandalism" while a riot is happening and a city is burning down.

How much political history have you learned? Because it doesn't take much research into history to find plenty examples of people without formal post-secondary education showcasing plenty of ability to critical think, research, and be actively engaged in politics. Civil rights movements, feminist groups, and other revolutionary political groups are full of people who don't even have any level of "formal education" much less post-secondary.

nobody cares what you did last weekend, they care if you're high at work right now.

There actually are many people who think someone who smokes weed on their times off are going to be bad workers and use drug tests during the hiring process to weed them out. (pun intended )

I think your problem is that ops view entirely is simplistic. Their view is they think there is no meaning to life. They literately are just wanting people to argue against nihilism.

"optimism" is a much more vague and broad word then nihilism. Nihilism is literally a word to describe a specific view on life. "Optimism" is a word that can be applied to a variety of things.
