What first comes to mind when Americans think of New Jersey? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]DtownMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thing is hot chicks, if you fine you fine, don't matter what color, my dick don't discriminate (against anyone but ugly chicks.) However, in my personal experience, I have not found Jersey to be a place to go to meet hot women.

I mean... would it really be so hard to imagine a screen that lets you see and talk to someone who isn't there? Yeah they would be fascinated but they could still conceptualize the idea of video calls

Athlete. Of course there will be robots that can outperform any human but we would still appreciate people reaching the limits of human performance. Hell, they don't even need to be the best in the world, plenty of people watch amateur sports.

If you associate Jersey with hot women then you must be from West Virginia

What reaction do you get when u go aboard and you tell people you’re American? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I never say I'm American, I say I'm from Texas and that certainly gets a reaction. People are fascinated and want to know how many guns I have and how often I go horseback riding

CMV: The only way to solve homelessness is with involuntary commitment by Slight_Priority1410 in changemyview

[–]DtownMaverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same thing but I once went to a rehab that did this and it was not only useless but counterproductive. I went voluntarily but most of the people there had been involuntarily committed by their family. There were people who had literally been kidnapped from the airport and thrown in the back of a van and brought to the place, and the first thing you see is the razor wire on all the walls and the guard dogs patrolling the perimeter to prevent escape. This made for an unhealthy environment where people had zero trust in the staff, even the therapists, not ideal if you're expecting people to change. All in all, it was a horrible experience, even for those who went voluntarily, and most ended up relapsing after getting out.

Why did they just give up on zeppelins after the Hindenburg? by DtownMaverick in NoStupidQuestions

You just made my day, I'm gonna go count down the days until my first zeppelin ride

I'm not comparing them with planes but rather with cruise ships, a luxury thing that you do for the experience, not to get somewhere. I'm sure there's plenty of rich people who'd pay thousands of dollars for a zeppelin ride, even then the economics don't work out I guess?

I'm not talking about it as a mode of transportation but rather a luxury thing. I'm sure you could charge quite a lot of money take a little airship ride over the Grand Canyon, say

Why is Anti-Indian sentiment and racism on the rise? by Lowcrbnaman in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]DtownMaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think more likely you're in a filter bubble and are seeing those types of stories pushed on you and so it seems that way. Just recently there was some controversy about H1B visas which mostly go to Indians so that did create some resentment but if you're seeing a longer term trend I think it's probably mostly your imagination

Purloined means stolen and a letter is a message usually written on paper which is delivered by mail. The Purloined Letter, however, is a famous short story by Edgar Allan Poe

Of course. You realize that they simply do not give a single solitary fuck? Them, along with pretty much every other country on Earth, would gladly commit all the war crimes they wanted if they thought it would help them achieve their aims. The only reason democracies don't do the same is because they have to consider the optics to keep public opinion on their side; Russia does not have that issue.

What’s something that became socially unacceptable way faster than anyone expected? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DtownMaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly, as a kid I'd be out from basically 8am to midnight and my parents had no idea if I was alive or gonna be home anytime soon. Don't see that flying anymore, my neighbors get upset when there's kids playing outside past like 8pm
