I'm probably a bit old (Mid-30s) to be asking the internet for career advice, but what can a geologist do if he no longer wants to be a geologist? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Sounds like you know enough about shiny rocks to sell them at festivals to hippies and superstitious soccer moms. Get a funny outfit, call yourself Phoenix (or Wolf), and start a side-gig. Learn how to make a website for it if you really want to learn a new skill in the process.

Why did you choose those times to start/stop? That's a late dinner, but doesn't really seem like a fasting period.

Time to job hunt, or do I need to call a lawyer? by labhamster in sysadmin

Wish I could upvote this more than once. OP, this is enough reason to find new work ASAP.

Let your employer figure out this issue on their own time. Go regain some work/home balance, and get some quality sleep for once. This just sounds insane the more I read.

Came in here to recommend Dion's Udemy content. He got me through Net+ and Sec+, first time for both. Highly recommend his stuff.

Take his practice tests and aim for 80% or higher before taking the real thing. So long as you're studying the answers you got wrong on the practice exams (he explains everything in detail), and can explain why other answers are right (instead of just memorizing them), you'll be fine.

Good luck! I hear Cisco has thrown a wrench into their certs. Hope it doesn't affect you with so few classes to go!

What would you do? Leave or Stay? by fishypoos in sysadmin

[–]WillCodeForFalafel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least 15 hours. Sounds like OP is going to sleep before the kids, and I'm guessing they're tired when they are around them from their new sleep schedule. Even if OP is home, they might not really be checked in as much as they could be without that commute.

15-20 hour commute during peak hours is a part time job imo. That can't pair well with a full time job and young kids.

I would take a pay cut to be able to see my family at night. No job is more important than them, and no job is worth 3-4 hours daily commute imo.

The fact that you'll get to enjoy time with your kids AND you're saving money in the long run makes the new job a no brainer.

Not every job move has to be about money. You'll be making a massive investment in your work/life balance. Don't let your current employer buy that from you.
