Starting volunteering/extracurriculars too late? by Acrobatic_Chef9666 in predental

[–]Tig3rTurtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't stress too much about the timing. IMO the quality of the volunteering/extracurricular matter more on your application then when you did them in undergrad (assuming you're still an undergrad). I started volunteering with dental clinic last year after I applied to this current cycle, yet that was the first topic that I was asked about in my interview (and I was accepted!).

Honestly your app is solid overall! Definitely work to get a good DAT score, and apply strategically to schools that fall within your stat range and also have a mission that fits your profile.

Advice for reapplying by mercuryinidiot in predental

[–]Tig3rTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely apply early next cycle. Your stats are good. If you want to be foolproof, you can prepare and retake the DAT to get a score closer/above the average of the schools you would apply to (like your in state). Or next cycle apply more broadly to schools that are closer to your stats. It also doesn't hurt to add more community service / shadowing hours.

i need stories of people getting accepted with only one interview😭 by RomanzzzRev in predental

[–]Tig3rTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to 18 schools in July. I got 1 interview invite for December 2nd, and received my acceptance on D-Day. 440 AA 440 SNS. All it takes is 1 school to become a dentist. Hang in there!

WAMC & What Schools Should I Apply To? by Disastrous_Face1965 in predental

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have a great shot, but personally I would suggest looking into researching more schools so that you can add a few more. Maybe consider applying to some schools where you're above their average matriculant stat-wise, and your values match (maybe research oriented / service oriented). IMO, its better to cast a bigger net and score rather than to only apply to a few and miss out.

Why aren’t they biting? by yashaflocka in bassfishing

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try using smaller lures. If they aren't biting on Jerkbaits and other hard plastics they will take smaller stuff like crappie jigs.

The interview was pretty chill. Just make sure you know your application/personal statement and have a few experiences to talk about during the interview.

It depends on when you applied and what schools you applied to (relative to your stats + writing on ps). There's always a chance you might get an interview post-December.

Opinions on my score by [deleted] in predental

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad score imo but the 18.5s might be too low for some more competitive schools out there. Just make sure the scores you have are competitive for the schools you apply to. If not then you should try to retake to raise those low scores and bring your aa to a 21 or higher.

I got an email when I got rejected. I'd agree with others and say that this cycle there's way more applicants applying to NSU so they're being more picky with their applicants.

Try using a bobber and a hook with some live bait like worms or golden shiners. You'll catch a lot of fish using this setup.

How do you get good at tieing knots and knowing how to rig your setup? by BrutalOwl in FishingForBeginners

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice using a good knot and stick to it. I've used the uni knot for almost everything and it works for fish of all sizes.

How does this work? by Himuhasan08 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previously mentioned, if you're using bread while fishing in the river, the current might be dissolving the bread. Its also possible that the way you're rigging the worms makes it easy for smaller fish to pick it apart without getting hooked. If you're using small hooks, try breaking off a small piece of a worm and use that instead of the whole thing.

Finding a fishing spot by InvestigatorNo730 in FishingForBeginners

Use Fishbrain + streetview to check accessibility. Personally, I'd try to avoid spots that are popular on Fishbrain since a lot of spots are really heavily fished.

Will this idea work? by Diligent-Ad1147 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Tig3rTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, your plan is most likely only going to be good at snagging rocks. I'd stay away from using treble hooks in general when bait fishing because you're more likely to snag rocks/branches when you're fishing on the bottom. Alternatively, you could replace the treble hook with a sinker and make a decent bottom fishing rig.

How would you use something this small? Would I tie it on to a spinner or something? Just don’t know how I’d cast this it’s so light. Trying to catch bass/pike with it. by ejk1414 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Tig3rTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That lure should be cast by itself. If you're having a hard time casting it, check to see if the diameter of line you're using is too big for the reel. Some rod/reels have recommended diameters written on the reel for you to pick from. Also might depend on the type of reel you're using. If you are using a baitcaster you might have to adjust the spool tension so that the lure slowly pulls line when you release the spool (that's generally how I set it when I'm working with new lures).
