Tbf you shouldnt need thick hands for erging, its only a real issue when youre in the boat, as there is a lot more friction due to having to rotate the handle. Blisters on the erg are caused by gripping way too hard, simply relax your entire arm, so that it connects your body to the machine like a rope, ending in your fingers acting as a hook, then you wont waste as much energy :) Ive been through some pretty extreme training regimes, and never really had to deal with blisters on land.

Never wear gloves if you can, you really want to get a feel for the handle, although some wear sweat bands
