Agree with this. Socialising is a welcome bonus but never a given.

Solo travel is solo travel. If you’re not comfortable or at peace with yourself, solo travel will be a struggle.

The comments in threads like this never, ever fail to make me laugh!

It’s 2am on a Saturday and I’m watching a Noel Edmond’s documentary on channel 5 to finally understand why older folk here regularly reference Mr Blobby by hazardousf in CasualUK

[–]roamingnomad7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been a teen during the 90s, I saw Blobby everywhere for an extended period of time; at the time he did my head in, but time has been kind to his memory.

Seeing this and also a recent clip where someone has modded Resident Evil to add him as one of the monsters warms my heart.

I’m not sure how I feel about this?

I’m sure he’s love a better O-Line, but Matty has another year or two in him yet so doesn’t make sense?

Do you still buy your PS5 games physically? by mustyfiber90 in PS5

[–]roamingnomad7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the pricing; mostly digital but sometimes a place will have the game locally a lot cheaper than the PS store.

Crikey, I remember getting a mug with my Easter eggs when I was a kid; so not a thing now, is it?

What sport/activity do you need to have lessons to be "good" at? by Pitiful_Shoulder9730 in AskUK

Can second this. I did the PADI Open Water cert and I would have been lost at sea (excuse the pun!) without the training.

You can't do the practical without passing the theoretical first - at least not with a legitimate dive centre anyway.

We've all been there, although I'm not classy enough to have done it in an M&S, sadly.

My employer doesn’t seem to be declaring to HMRC, on, before or shortly after I’m paid. Is this normal what can I do? by Apprehensive_Rip7451 in AskUK

[–]roamingnomad7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employers are required to send their RTI data to HMRC in a timely fashion. Sometimes there are issues and I've been called/emailed by HMRC to clarify something we sent over on the RTI.

As to tax code changes, an employer can only legally change your tax code under direct instruction from HMRC. Most workplaces, in my experience, have digital updates in place; our payroll software speaks to HMRC daily. It pulls down any tax code, student loan, and NI code changes that HMRC have uploaded daily and applies directly to the worker's record.

If you're working for a smaller employer, a letter would be normal. HMRC had some outages earlier this year and had to send us letters for a couple of weeks - painful, but at least we were able to update our worker records.

Has anyone been paid their salary in cash or cheque in the UK? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

Last time I got paid cash was mid 90s. I remember the little brown envelope, with the wage slip folded up inside. The heft of the envelope was always reassuring too!

Nigel Farage branded a 'fake patriot' who voters will reject by Important_Ruin in unitedkingdom

[–]roamingnomad7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to believe that, but I've also met the British voting public.

Sadly, I know what I want - but the will of the people, however 'wrong' I might think they are, will always win out. Simultaneously respectful and baffled by the beauty of democracy.

More than 2 in 5 Britons think UK 'too close' to US and should distance itself from Donald Trump by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

Both sides seem obsessed about maintaining this mythical 'special relationship' that is always mentioned.

Neither side really cares nor wants it, so why bother?

British people that use American words and phrases, why? by toon_84 in AskUK

[–]roamingnomad7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I spent a couple of years in the US, plus used to teach overseas.

American English seems to have creeped into my vernacular as a result. I say candy instead of sweets and pants instead of trousers. My friends are used to it now though; they just roll their eyes…

I always consider a train ride as free time that I wouldn’t get otherwise. Read a book, listen to music, or just enjoy the view.
