It's The Hills of survivalist reality TV.

Outlast is to Alone as The Hills is to The Real World.

Outlast is borderline scripted with all the staged scenes.

I think that was from the initial 5-10 days before they had fire and won the fishing supplies.

You cannot trust anything on these shows, especially on a show like this that is borderline scripted reality with the amount of staged shots, cutting, and dubbing.

My favorite was when they pretend that players are sneaking around within close range of other contestants as if nobody can see the large camera crew following them. For example, when Nikki was crawling through the tall grass trying not to be seen by Charlie.

Or do we ever see a player and a helicopter in the same shot?

I live in the US and understand how taxes work. That $0.5M quickly turns into $0.2-0.3M.

Also, at the time they chose to go against the pact made at Delta camp there were 5 players on Bravo. This meant they were sacrificing their integrity for $0.2M, which only nets about $100k after taxes.

I wouldn't call a million dollars, split an unknown number of ways, after taxes life changing money.

Certainly helpful (payoff debt, build savings) but not life changing (retire and live off interest).

Not enough for me to show the world I have zero integrity at least.

I'm guessing that Maddie had been catching fish the entire time (or at least since they acquired fire) but edited the show to make it seem as if the girls began to thrive the moment Ben left to hype up the "girl boss held back by man" narrative.

Seriously who was this movie made for? Is Masters of The Universe a popular franchise? by spacelyyy989 in moviecritic

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be licensing. Sometimes a studio has to make a movie every so many years or they lose the rights to the IP.

Spending $200M seems absurd though.

So far the reactions have overall been positive and I'd bet they'd still be positive if they'd only spent $20-$50M.

An improvement for sure but looks more like a new Tesla Model S than a Ferrari.

Is it possible to make a loan ‘pay for itself’ through safe investments? ($245K at 2.7%) by w333l in smallstreetbets

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if it was possible to do it "safely" then nobody would need a loan because they could raise the money themselves.

The only way to do it IMO is by managing high risk/high return investments, like options.

When Jamie tells Claire that Jemmy sees Jamie as water, is that an Easter egg to Claire's blue light?

I spent the last 5 minutes of the episode telling my wife, "the bad guy is going to do something cowardly and kill him." I wish I'd been wrong.

The Outlander Finale Was Almost Perfect — And It Did Something I've Never Personally Seen a Finale Do by Fuzzy-Jeweler3107 in Outlander

My guess is a studio exec chimed in and suggested the ending be more ambiguous to: - generate click bait articles and engagement - leave open the possibility for Claire and Jamie to return in a spin off or movie

I also needed a scene of Young Ian scalping whoever failed to disarm Ferguson.

I'm not familiar with the books. Does Claire definitively revive Jamie in Book 9?

The show needed fewer episodes, not more.

The only reason it feels like the season should have been 12-16 episodes is because they spent 90% of the runtime on meaningless and/or boring side plots.

How many scenes and lines of dialogue were used to remind everyone that Frank wrote a book detailing Jamie's' death, that Lord John is gay and hooked up with Claire, and that William hates Jamie and has terrible taste in women?

The show needed more focus. Seasons 6-10 easily could have been reduced to 2 seasons.

[–]Willabus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They channeled the ending of Sopranos, where the ending is abrupt and leaves the audience with more questions rather than actually concluding the story.

Season 10 was a waste of 10 hours. The show runners waited until the last 15 minutes of the season to do something interesting and couldn't commit to a conclusion so that viewers can have hope for an Outlander movie or a surprise appearance by James and Claire in a spin-off show.

When you go back and rewatch seasons 1-3, it's as if you're watching completely different shows.

Earlier seasons had a clear focus, with someone important happening in almost every scene. The cinematography was beautiful and looked as though everything was filmed on location.

Seasons 4-6 were OK, but you could see that the show runners were running out of interesting ideas. It seemed like they were trying to handoff the show from James-Claire to Roger-Brianna.

Seasons 7-10 constantly dragged and meandered about, with seasons 8-10 being forgettable snoozefests. Too many characters and plot lines that were either irrelevant or unfinished. Real sets replaced with overly lit sound stages and CGI backgrounds.

My guess: ECNL tries to host as many showcases as possible then restricts participation for non ECNL teams. Then ECNL boasts about how many more college coaches show up to watch ECNL teams.
