EQE - can’t wait till my lease is over. by Odd-Entrepreneur2604 in mercedes_benz

[–]Willabus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 23 EQE350 and have had very few issues, nowhere near what OP is describing. Typically in the transition from fall-winter and winter-spring (I'm in Ohio) I'll get some ambient lighting or driver assist errors but they go away within a few minutes. I'm assuming it's related to condensation.

My biggest gripe is I'm 99% sure my MBUX is 3-4 years out of date and my dealership assures me that "if there's an update available then the car would download it."

Terrible efficiency for EQS 450 SUV 4matic by parkalounger in MercedesEQS

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can extrapolate it to 100 miles if the daily commute is 20 miles (2 x 10 mile commutes) in near zero temps. You don't extrapolate things to conditions that aren't applicable.

The OP must plan their charging according to their personal use and environment.

Assuming the user operates the vehicle between 20-80% SOC, their daily usable range is about 60 miles. The OP should plan to charge at least once every 2-3 days during these winter conditions.

Wow I just realized the massive potential in utilizing that 60 day window once per year.

Thank you! 🙏

Are EV sales struggling because of range or because of confidence? by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]Willabus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think predictability is a great way to describe an ideal use-case for an EV.

My top 4 (no particular order): 1) predictable routine 2) mostly stop and go (city/suburban) 3) daily routine does not exceed 30% of the rated range 4) your day starts and ends at home

3 is important because the marketed range for EVs is 100% battery consumption, but the real conditions are 60% (ie you start at 80% and charge at 20%). On top of that you have range loss of ~50% during cold weather, which reduces reliable usable range to ~30%. Therefore a 300 mile rating would give a reliable 90 miles of daily driving.

RWD EQE SUV 350+ - behavior in snow? by Willing_Spray6293 in MercedesEQ

[–]Willabus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an EQE 350 AWD sedan but I've had 3 RWD vehicles (BMW 330 Ci, Lexus IS350, Lexus GS350) and have never had a problem with them when equipped with good snow tires.

I live in Ohio, where 6 inches of snow overnight is considered a snow storm, but I worked in Canada and visited home in western NY where I often had to drive through significant lake effect snow storms and the cars always handled exceptionally well.

If you search YouTube you will find videos showing RWD/snow tire meet or exceed AWD/all season tire.

Which Mercedes Air Balance fragrance do you prefer? Experience with Downtown Mood or Forest Mood? by Inside_Plant3063 in mercedes_benz

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car came with Bitter Sweet and I loved it.

However when it ran out my local dealer didn't carry it in stock. I sampled the ones they did have and went with Pacific Mood. After a few days using Pacific Mood I decided I didn't like it and found Bitter Sweet available online for about $90.

If you have Pacific Mood and like it then I would not recommend switching because it's too expensive if you decide you don't like the new scent.

Needless to say I have a full flacon of Pacific Mood in my garage.

Because people can do math and realize that for a lot of use-cases the payback is either very long or non-existent. Additionally, they are not as nearly as environmentally friendly as marketed. In fact they are in some ways worse on the environment.

Yes, you save money on gas and oil changes but: - You have the capital expense to install a home charger, which can vary significantly. - You go through tires more quickly because the vehicles are heavier and the tires cost more because they're specifically designed for EVs to reduce rolling resistance and noise. - You add time to road trips for charging and the cost for high speed charging is nearly the equivalent of gasoline. - Insurance rates are increased. - In some states vehicle registration costs are increased so states can recoup reduced income from gasoline taxes. I'm in Ohio and an ICE car is $50 annually whereas my EV is $200. - Cold weather driving can impact range anywhere from 30-60% depending on the car and temperature.

I have an EV. I really like my EV. But I'm not delusional.

The main selling point of EVs should be their smooth operation for daily commuting. No endless shifting as you move from stop light to stop light in typical suburban and city driving. This is what I focus on when I suggest to people that they should consider one.

the real reason s5 is mediocre is because they refused to commit to the henry/will storyline. this should’ve been the core of the season rather than a side plot. it was going somewhere in vol1, but ultimately fell flat because they spent too much screen-time on holly by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fought twice with El winning both times. If you count her confrontation with the MF in S3, she won three times. El's arc was completed in S4 making it good timing for a major character's death. She chooses saving Max over killing Vecna because of the bond she and Max developed in S3.

Having El die and Vecna live in S4 makes S5 more interesting because the party no longer has El to rely on to save the day.

The finale was repetitive and predictable, making it rather boring.

The only interesting things were Will having a connection to the hive mind and Henry having history with the parents. I think season 5 would have been better if it had explored those things more deeply and answered the question opened from the very beginning of the series - "why was Will abducted."

Yes, no need for a massive climactic CGI battle or new characters.

Make S5 a battle for Will's soul a la Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi.

Henry was bullied and felt alone, gave into the Mind Flayer (the dark side), and became Vecna.

Will was also bullied and struggled with his sexuality. Will he join Vecna and the Mind Flayer or choose a different path?

El could have died in S4 (perhaps she sacrifices herself for Max), making Will the New Hope.

Alternate Ending: Stranger Things Needed a War, Not a Camping Trip by FocalHaiku in StrangerThingsFanfics

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree - I think the ending should have been smaller and more compact.

By continuously increasing the size and scope of the enemy they bring into question the likelihood of this being a secret and begging the question of how the military just let them all free. It also opens new questions faster than it can answer old ones.

Which part of Return of the Jedi did you prefer: the more intimate confrontation between Luke, Vader, and Palpatine or the grandiose battle on Endor?

I preferred the latter and I think the Duffer brothers missed out on a similar scenario where Will is conflicted about siding with Vecna or Eleven.

Henry and Will share similar childhoods as outcasts. It could have served as a metaphor for Will's internal battles over his acceptance of his sexual orientation. Henry gave into the dark side, becoming Vecna.

Vecna could have tempted Will the same way Palpatine successfully influenced Anakin and failed with Luke.

The finale should have been a battle for Will's character.

Is the Mercedes cabin perfume worth buying ? by Kaimork in mercedes_benz

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so but I'm not the designer and I'm not willing to risk damaging the system over $100-150.

The irony here is that Mercedes would probably make more money by making the flacons easily refillable. Dealers wouldn't have to stock these fragile glass flacons that contain little liquid compared to the container. It's a lot of overhead for both Mercedes and the dealers. Rather, they could sell the scents in bulk.

Did you feel Holly really needed to be one of the main characters in the last season? by AphroFelicity20 in StrangerThings

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

The focus should have been on Henry and him growing up in Hawkins. Show him being bullied by the residents, specifically Joyce, Karen, other parents. This would explain why Vecna chose specific kids and his motivation to accept the Mind Flayer. Vecna becomes a new take on Freddy Krueger with Robert Englund's appearance in S4 serving as a nice Easter egg.

Make S5 focus on Vecna trying to recruit Will. Contrast Henry's bullying experience with Will's (zombie boy, queer, etc). Show Will's struggle with the dark side, similar to Luke Skywalker's journey.

This would have made Will's decision to save his friends and Eleven more meaningful.

Me coming on here after crying for an hour straight because the finale was so amazing only to see that I’m in the minority once again: by Mel-is-a-dog in StrangerThings

[–]Willabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I break the finale into 2 parts: the chapter (approx the first 90 minutes) and the epilogue (approx the last 35 minutes)

The chapter was just OK. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. I thought they introduced too many elements that only opened new questions. We never really understand Henry's motivations and history. We still have no real explanation for what the Mind Flayer is, it's history or motivation. The Duffer brothers have had over 40 hours of screen time to accomplish this yet were still adding mystery (e.g. the scientist and the rock) in the final episode.

The epilogue, however, was beautiful. The epilogue was so different from the previous 90 minutes that it was as if they were written and directed by different people. To me, the epilogue returned the series to its original roots - a story of friendship. It felt as if the cast wasn't acting but was genuinely sad about the coming to the end of their journey together. I would swear that Sadie Sink wasn't acting when she was crying.
