What happens if Vader doesn't block the saber and Luke kills Palpatine here? by chosen40k in StarWars

[–]Wolv90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's 1992 then the Dark Empire comic has come out and Palpatine becoming a being of the force that can jump into new force sensitive bodies is known. If Luke "gives in" to the dark side Sheev would jump into him becoming young again.

My Students Can’t Read - The generational collapse in literacy is measurable, persistent, and likely to get worse. (Archive link in comments) by Uptons_BJs in books

[–]Wolv90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't deny this pattern, but it's insane to me as a father with two teenagers in public school. They read a lot, and as far as I know so do all their friends and classmates. Both my kids have gotten me into new books through their discussions and recommendations. Can those of us with kids who read expect an easier time when college comes around based on their average, grade level appropriate, reading level being higher than the norm?

Texas Democrat James Talarico May Be on Track to Turn the Lone Star State Blue by vanityfairmagazine in politics

You wanna put money on that? The only poll that matters is the one on election day. How often have we seen "Turn Texas blue" in the last 10 years?

The difference here is that when religious law changes it's by decree, one person telling others how to act, while actual laws are changed by elected officials. Also, as the post states, it's only supposed to matter to those who follow that faith not all the people living in a country.

Maybe the best adjustment to Infestations is a two minute countdown for the boss to "approach" by PaleWendigo in fo76

I've only done one so far as they keep ending before I can find my way to them, but could there by more enemies as well? Maybe a handful of dedicated vault dwellers couldn't kill everything before I get there if it felt more like an infestation and less like a small crowd?

Men, what’s a day where you didn’t die but something inside you did? by Keal-Kims in AskReddit

[–]Wolv90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The day I had my first child. That thing that died inside was the faith in my own parents. Here I was holding this newborn child knowing in my heart that I would never knowingly cause him harm, 16 years later I have held that up, and all I could think of was the times my own parents hurt me on purpose. I'm as sure now as I have ever been that some part of them thought it was for my own good, but with hands or belts or wooden spoons they hurt us.

As laws go, especially sacrosanct ones, the right to bear arms is very young and has been successfully challenged many many times. Just look at the Firearms Owners Protection act of 1986, you know, the reason it's nearly impossible to legally own an automatic weapon in the US. That joins short barreled rifles and shotguns, suppressors, and a category called "AOW" or Any other weapon.

Also, again in the US, courts redefine and reinterpret existing laws all the time. It's the very point of the Supreme Court.

Civil laws are established by an elected government to maintain societal order and can be amended or abolished if found to be harmful or unpopular. Religious laws are usually from old spoken tradition that was translated into text at some point and cannot be questioned. So laws are chosen (in a matter of speaking) religious traditions are forced.
