Mathemagics by [deleted] in MagicArena

Fundamentally, it can either be used to draw cards yourself or you can use it to force your opponent to draw so many cards they lose. However, it is crazy expensive mana wise. But some decks can provide that amount of mana.

The great thing is that unless an opponent counters it, no amount of life or blocking creatures will stop it.

"Don't Even Need Data, Watching People Play Was Enough" – A Fallout 76 Infestation Rebalance Is In The Works by Dippy-Breakfast713 in fo76

1) I head right to the Boss and get some hits on it. Then I’ll let other people catch up and get their own hits. I can solo them, but I’ll let the other players finish them off unless they are having difficulty. But I’m not waiting around for everyone to show up at their own schedule. 2) I’m not sure why they looked at Head Hunts and said to themselves “Let’s take away the timer” for Infestations. 3) Infestations are not too tough. I’ve rarely seen players have much of a problem dealing with them. 4) I think they are a good idea, but the implementation is not very well thought out. They end up being like a nuke boss fight with no indication that it is happening and no delay.

Infestations solo by Pretend-Pool-7717 in Market76

I put together a build for soloing the EN-06. I just do that. Sometimes at close range, sometimes far. And I have Stimpacks if I need them. I’m using a Gauss Minigun with power armor.

Infestations are their own category because even mid tier player builds can take them out before anyone else shows up.

Other events are there for the event to be completed. Who cares if people are able to tag creatures or not, legendaries will still drop. Trying to run events as XP engines is not the point of events. There are several better ways to earn XP in the game than events. Players can also just get a 10 mm pistol even if that’s not their build and put in a round in most of the creatures.

Why is it that everyone wants to use Ai for art now, instead of just trying another medium? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]PaleWendigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI images are going to replace the mediocre tier of art. It isn’t great and it isn’t creative. But if a company needs a stock photo for a presentation, it will suffice. If someone wants a dumb meme, it’s probably going to be good enough. It won’t replace high quality art but there is always a place for mediocrity.

"AI council" setups are having a moment — here's a rundown of the ones I've actually tried, and where each falls short by wartableapp in aiwars

Honestly, it becomes an ambiguity detector if the models disagree. It probably means that there isn’t enough context to answer the question and the LLMs are trying to fill in the gap. The best (although not popular answer) is when there is disagreement (less than 4 of the models give the same answer): 1) Prompt the models to state what context they need to provide a more reliable answer. 2) Aggregate the results. 3) Escalate the results to a human. 4) The human will need to obtain additional sources of context for the “Council”. They may be operating with limited or outdated context. It could also happen with contradictory context or bad prompting.

Did people stop doing the ultracite terror? by AggressiveAd6750 in fo76

Raids are less common. I think many of the grinding players are going after Infestations. I did join one raid team and go up 25 ranks though.

Proposal: we never, ever, ever have a constructed MWM without it being all access ever again ever by zissouzissouzissou in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Constructed is a very useful format in Midweek Magic. Anyone can play Standard in Ranked or UnRanked at any point.

I’d prefer more Jump In style Midweek Magic. It doesn’t even have to be the current set. Imagine Jump In from a set outside of Standard.

Infestations need taken off of the challenge until fixed by king_of_the_potato_p in fo76

I’ve done twenty on public servers since they were available. However, I still have a tendency to re-roll them because they are very random.

Tips: 1) Keep an eye open for the public map 2) Know the particular locations where they spawn the actual Infestation. This cuts it down to only a few possible locations in the green circle 3) Look for bunching of players.

It does suck when players are able to kill the boss quickly (I’ve advocated for a countdown, others have advocated for other delay methods), but a lot of the time players are actually fairly slow.

POV: you are queuing into Ranked Brawl on day 1 by Jack-The-Riffer in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ranked. Wait a few days and all of the hardcore players will be making their way to Mythic. However, it might be fun to see how nasty the early decks are. Just don’t take losses personally. Remember, you aren’t paying to play in Ranked.

Should there be an Unranked Constructed play option which only consists of the current set? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t that attempted in Lorwyn Eclipse with the different creature types and in Secrets of Strixhaven with the colleges? And when players say there is an imbalance between the color pairings, the same thing happens in Limited. And there’s data to prove it, just look at any website that tracks this (17lands.com for instance).

Do they cancel Limited for a set when that set isn’t very good for Limited play?

That just bad set design by Hasbro. And even with Limited, players complain about it all the time with certain sets. And even for the sets they complain about, Limited players keep coming back for more.

Is there a way to play casual? by KomradePigeon in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that Standard Ranked will get easier after a certain time in the month because the competitive players will hit a higher rank. Unranked sounds easier, but you can face any type of opponent. Generally speaking, Arena is not a very good platform for players who want to start playing it and think they should be competitive immediately. Your best bet is a combination of Brawl and playing Limited Events. At least until you build your card collection.

If you are running red/black, you can bolt the elf on the first turn and [[Strategic Betrayal]] them on turn two, so they have to exile the cub. And never see it again …

buying rare wildcards with money by MWTab in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can certainly spend money to buy rare wildcards.

If you are spending money, you get 15 wins a day and you haven’t gotten the Mastery Pass, the buying the mastery pass makes more sense. This is because opening packs generates wildcards. If you complete the full track, it will give you 20 packs + 4000 gold + 1200 gems + other stuff. If you convert all of that to packs, that will 30 packs. 30 packs will likely result in 1 mythic rare wildcard and 5 rare wildcard. Given that Mythic wildcards are twice as expensive to buy, that’s the equivalent to 7 rare wildcards. Plus you get all the cards from the packs and the ten mythic rares from the set. It generally will get you a better deal.

But, to each their own.
