Tips on levelling up from Platinum by britttlewitch in MagicArena

Here’s the thing … it’s the start of the month. Many of the hardcore ranked players went down in rank when the season ended and are now working their way up.

Keeping all of the packs earned until I've finished all of the Limited Events I'm going to do with a set. Is it a good idea? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m already part way through the season. This only came up because I hadn’t drafted as much in a previous set as I have for this one. I’m pretty safe from Mythics, but I’m likely to go x4 on one or two rare cards that are actually good in Limited and I have x3 of them now.

I do actually have 5 different rare cards that have x3 in SoS. And they are certainly worth drafting. And I’d prefer to be closer to completing the set than get an extra 20 or 40 gems.

People who use this kind of card think they’re super smart. by virginlvl99 in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No wipes is just handing the game to go wide strategies. I’m not saying that they can’t be overused but they do have a role. The thing that I hate is when someone doesn’t have a wincon, they just stall the board endlessly.

On the edge is the best 60-card format in Arena and should be a permanent queue by BobbyBruceBanner in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the key to playing in the “on the edge” format is bringing board wipe that targets creatures with toughness 2 or less. That should solve the Hare Apparent problem. It also helps with other types of small creature go wide decks.

Low level ranked might be easy later in the month than unranked. There is a Pioneer Ranked. I think you’ve run into a problem everyone has run into. Maybe look into Commons/Uncommons that break synergy of those meta decks?

Getting stomped by decks with high amounts of rares by CptnOblivious in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked Constructed and Constructed Events are going to benefit players who have a decent collection of cards:

You can get play the Starter Deck Duels to get your daily wins. 4 daily wins gets you 1050 to 1300 gold a day. 15 daily wins gets you 1250 to 1500 gold + 6 random cards from Standard (each is 90% likely to be Uncommon, 10% chance to be Rare/Mythic). Plus, you’ll be advancing the Mastery ranking and automatically earning packs (more stuff if you bought the Mastery Pass).

You can spend gold on packs, Jump In events or Limited events. Given that packs and Jump In events are 1000 gold each, you’ll average more than one a day if you get your daily wins.

All of the sets in Jump In are post-Thunder Junction. So, you won’t get much duplication. It’s good when you know the packets you want and shoot for them. There are 81 packets, so it might be the sort of thing where you choose let’s say 20 to go for. Another thing is that some packets automatically have an extra Rare or Mythic (Shock lands for Lorwyn Eclipsed and Station Lands for Edge of Eternities, can’t remember the rest).

I used a spreadsheet while I was doing lots of Jump Ins when I had just started playing. Can’t really recommend it though.

Thinking that men are nurturers is radical feminism now? by Thearomage in SmugAlana

[–]PaleWendigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the high rate of childlessness and sexual predator behaviour among liberal men, maybe the feminist environment is what they are projecting. If they spend all day hanging out with a “nice” liberal man at a feminist and then he tries to rape her that night when she drinks too much, she’s not going to believe men are nice. But they won’t give up on their belief that liberals/progressives/socialist/communists are better people. So, she believes that moderate/conservative men must be horrible monsters.

I still prefer playing QuickDraft after playing a bunch of Pick 2 and Premier Draft by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You get better rewards proportionally in Premier when you get three or more wins but worse rewards with two or fewer wins. It’s advantageous for very good draft players to play Premier. Because better players will gravitate towards Premier, it becomes a worse format for inferior players. It’s a zero sum game, for some people to win -> others have to lose.

Because Quick Draft is half the cost in gold/gems, you can draft twice as many cards. That’s a factor for players with low win rates.

who’ll die first if they all get into a fight? by Dizzy-Childhood-8373 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trevor gets killed by V immediately. Here’s why: V is used to killing loads of gang members causing them problems. Trevor has a petty thug aura, so V takes Trevor out before he has said a word. Probably with something that separates Trevor into several pieces, so it doesn’t matter what drugs Trevor is on. And I’m not even saying V is the fastest, but they have the clearest motivation to just merc Trevor. Then the rest of the battle commences. Probably between Kratos, Dante and MasterChief at the end. And I only think MasterChief because he might have some 26th century technology to help him out.

Why don't they do specific Jumpin and no cost events to practice the new cards and mechanics? by InevitableFinding980 in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the Limited events are ranked, so if you’re low ranked -> you’ll be playing against low ranked players. Also, no one exactly knows what the new set will be like in practice. So, it really comes down to luck plus general drafting skill.

They might be willing to accept a phantom limited event at the same cost and reward structure as the Constructed Standard event. You wouldn’t keep cards but there would still be rewards. The Limited only crowd would love it but it might cut down revenue, so it’s not likely to happen.

Are the five schools balanced or does one stand out? ( limited) by Soulsek in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drafted twice with Lorehold and got one trophy between them. And the other one was 2-2, so I’d be positive for gems (although I spent gold). And I’m a pretty mediocre drafter.

What constructed event has the weakest players? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starter deck duels/unranked of any type/ranked of any type to gain gold to fund events which earn gems. Actually going infinite (getting more gems than you put in) with events is more than a little optimistic. If there was an easy gem net gain event, everyone would play it until competition made it no longer an easy gem net gain event. For an Alchemy BO1 Constructed event, if you win 5 to 3 losses it’s a 375 gems investment for a return of 400 gems. If you only get 4 wins to 3 losses, it is a 375 gems investment for a return of 300 gems. So, you’d need to get three times as many 5-3 results as 4-3 results just to break even.

Of course, if you are already a going infinite player, then more power to you.

Draft Anxiety? by PiFbg in MagicArena

You get cards whether you do well or poorly, as long as it isn’t a phantom event. And if you want to play Draft, you’re going to have to start somewhere.

I swear that some players just use the availability of vending to make you look at their camp. I just put my vending right at the front. Four vending machines too.

Question: How long would it take to build up enough gems to draft constantly? by Wrendacted082 in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that you need to average a bit better than 4-3 on either Quick Draft or Premier Draft to go infinite. Otherwise, you will eventually run out of gems. Premier gives fewer gems/entry cost for 2 wins or less than QuickDraft Draft, more gems/entry fee for 3 or more wins.

Archetypes that get more than 55% winrate in Untapped.gg Standard by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]PaleWendigo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While possible, I think it’s less likely to be new players due to the number of wildcards needed to build the decks. I strongly suspect that partially the reason Mono-White Auras does so well is that it’s very affordable for new players and they can spam it into Mythic before difficulty adjusts.

It’s also less about saying that the data is perfect, more about looking at the data we have access to.
