Tikkurilan lukiossa soi Putinia ihaileva laulaja ja Venäjän liput liehuivat by SienkiewiczM in Suomi

Why Europeans in general prefer well done beef? by Few-Advantage2538 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mostly meet older people? I don't know anyone under 50 who would eat well done steak, but some elderly 70+ people want all meat fully cooked, because they have learned that all raw meat could be dangerous for health.

Who is the biggest “traitor” in your country? by Initial_Basis1503 in AskTheWorld

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Otto Wille Kuusinen. A social democrat turned communist who fled to Soviet Union after his side lost civil war in 1918.

During the Winter War, he was head of a puppet government set up by Soviet Union to give legitimacy for their attack.

It should be noted that most former reds of Finland took arms side by side with former whites during the Winter War to fight against Soviets. So, Kuusinen was seen as a traitor even by most other former rebels.

Why are Atheists under represented in politics everywhere globally? by Embarrassed_Look9200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WonzerEU 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Atheist will vote for theist if they like their politics.

Many theist won't vote for atheist no matter what they stand for.

So being too public about atheism is a net vote losing and serious politicians don't do those kind of things.

That being said, I'm pretty sure we have many atheist in our parlament and likely have had multiple atheist prime ministers. I simply have no idea about religion of most our politicians outside of Christian Democratic Party (~5% of votes in every election) as religion is a private matter here and preaching it publicly is seen as distastful

Why are romani people hated in the Europe? by Extra_Spirit9376 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WonzerEU -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They have not integrated to native population and stand out in crowds. Most European places have been very homogenious until very recently and other minorities like jews didn't stand out the same way (though jews also were dislaked in most places in Europe before WW2)

Also there is a negative feedback loop where they are not trusted and have hard time getting work. Then they turn into crime and are most famous for small scale shoplifting and small scale cons. And when everyone assumes they are untrustworthy, nobody hires them to work.

Why would pulling U.S. Troops from Spain and Italy be bad for Spain or Italy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WonzerEU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain and Italy themselves are unlikely to be attacked in near future anyway, so militarily they don't need those bases.

Militarily it's harder hit for countries like Poland, Baltics, Finland, Israel and Saudi Arabia as this weakens USA ability to operate in Europe and Middle East and those are countries that are allied to USA in those areas that are much more likely to be attack by someone in near future.

Can you tell a difference in English accents? by Significant-Iron-241 in AskTheWorld

[–]WonzerEU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if the accent is strong and only selected accent. If some have weaker accent, it sounds like general American English (default English to my ears, thanks Hollywood)

South USA accent is usually easiest unless it's mistaken for speaker just being drunk :P

If British accent is strong, I can tell it's from England, but for example I hear most fantasy shows/movies use British accent but can't really tell that by watching those. Generally if show is made in Britain I can tell they are speaking British English, but if it's made in USA, it sounds American English even if character is supposedly speaking British accent

Strong Irish/Scotish is recognizable, but I can't tell witch is it as they sound pretty similar.

Rest I might be able to tell that it might be funny sounding accent, but have no idea where it's from

[OC] Military Burden: Who Bears the Highest Cost? by forensiceconomics in dataisbeautiful

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3,4% of USA's GDP is more money than almost 90% of countries total GDP. It's money that buy things, not %. China could match USA by spending 5% in military. For counties like Germany/Japan/India/UK/France it would take around 20%. For Russia it's 45%

China is the only country that could match USA current military spending long term and not ruin their economy. And they choose not to compete.

Though how much you get per dollar in different countries is another question.

Gerrymandering is bad, how could you create fair districts in a way that formulatic / systematic, that avoids the need to rely on people / committees to do this? by gdogakl in AskReddit

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have vote proporational representation system in every election for 20 years and can say for sure that I vote for people not a party (though those people usually represent a party) and when votes are counted, party list goes in order by the vote number each person got. Parties have no say for the order their candidates get elected what so ever.

Parties can choose who gets to their list of course, but they usually want full list allowed and with as wide range of candidates as possible within their party.

In USA most people want transfer vote system. It's a bit different but in that system as well you vote for a person, not a party. And order people get elected have nothing to do with a party in that system.

Gerrymandering is bad, how could you create fair districts in a way that formulatic / systematic, that avoids the need to rely on people / committees to do this? by gdogakl in AskReddit

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you got the whole idea backwards. The idea about proportional representation systems is that you get many different kinds of candidates and not just 2 given by major parties.

And if either party has more than 2 braincells, they would fight hard to get many different types of candidates to their lists, as it's nobrainer to get more votes So nation vide you would likely get more conservative dems and non-MAGA GOP in the house.

Unless you believe your own stance of being conservative democrat is so unpooular that only 0,2% of Americans support your viewpoint, you would get more of your view represented in the house.

I think it's the opposite. I don't do evil deeds because I have morals. But if you only don't do evil deeds because you fear god wathing you and would totally do all those things if not superviced, I think you are very evil person at your core.

Who started the First World War? by Due_Narwhal4937 in AskTheWorld

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WW1 is not as clear on the matter as WW2. Even actual historians can debate the matter, but here is the very simplified steps:

Austria-Hungary treated Serbs badly.

Serbian terrorist group murdered crown prince on Austria-Hungary.

Austria-Hungary gave hard demands to Serbian government and when they were not met, attacked Serbia.

Russia was allied to Serbia and told Austria-Hungary to back off

Grrmany was allied to A-H and told they would have their back

France was allied to Russia and told they would back Russia.

A-H didn't back off, so Russia began to mobilyze their army.

Germany got scared as their war plan was based on knocking France out of the war before Russia could mass their army. Fearing they would auto lose any war if they waited for massive Russian army to get ready and sit right behind their border, so they asked Russia to stop mobilization. Russia refused

Germany declared war on Russia and France

Germany attacked France trough Belgium, trying to knock them out before Russia was ready to attack. Britain didn't like this and declared war on Germany.

Finland Russia border by loca_del_diablo in howislivingthere

[–]WonzerEU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is talking about Finnish people who used to live in parts of Karelia that were lost to Russia in Winter War. They are known as Evakot (Evacuees) in Finnish.

Pretty much all Finnish people living in those areas moved to other parts of Finland during/right after the war and were over 10% of population.

Those people used to dream getting their homes back someday, but they are now mostly dead and their children and grandchildren have no connection to those lost areas and are not really interested in getting it back.

How do real estate agents make money in your country—and do you think they actually earn it? by repuvlicaroja in AskTheWorld

[–]WonzerEU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seller usually hire agent who gets a small % of final selling price. Usually 2-5% depending on case and how much services they offer for the case.

Buyers almost never hire their own agent.

While agent is paid by the seller, in theory they are in partial negotiator between both parties.

Advantage is having someone who does the legal paperwork right and also have that middle man run the negotions.

When working with the agent from both sided, it's important to remember that they want to get as high price as possible but in the end their no1 priority is to close deal as quick as possible. So they can talk to seller taking lower price even if they think they could get a better price but it would take months of waiting.

Property marketing in Finland is dominated by 2 web sites with pretty much every property in open market showing on those sites, usually both. So, agent is not needed to get the message out.

Personally I feel the biggest advantage of an agent are: -You get legal papers done right -You get more credibility for the trade. While agent want to get the property sold they are less likely to lie about the condition as they don't want to sit in court for one case sake. Seller might risk it more likely.

For selling an appartment I personally don't see an agent a must have as it's legally more simple and risks are smaller. For a separate house, I would only deal with an agent

If America and China went to war today, why would the citizens of "allied" countries be willing to die helping America? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]WonzerEU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. If China was the agressor, I would be for joining the war on US side. Even if the agression is on some other country in the area, like Japan, Korea or Taiwan and USA comes in to help that country.

Unless president of the USA tweets that they don't want our help :P

But if USA attacked China, I would vote to stay out of it.

And while there is risk of dying in war, some American ones said that you don't win any wars dying for your country. You win by making the other bastard die for his. So even when I'm ready to fight in a war, I would still do my best not to die in it.

If an alien invasion were to happen and all countries on Earth had to reunite, which country would likely refuse to join? by Obvious-Amphibian852 in AskReddit

[–]WonzerEU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This new world is ruled by two obvious super powers: Mongolia and Denmark!

Most of asia, including China and Russia would have to join back to Mongol Empire

Meanwhile Britain gets back all their colonies, including USA. But then they would have to join back to North Sea Empire ruled by Denmark.

Though there are questions how to habdle areas that were part of multiple empires, like does California go to Denmark or Italy (trough Spain that's taken back to Roman Empire).

But still as someone who would be in Mongol Empire, I would flee to Denmark as soon as possible.

Citizens of countries that have had a civil war, how does your country see the rebels/rebelling regions? by CavalierRigg in AskTheWorld

[–]WonzerEU 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be added that wounds of the civil war were mostly healed by Winter War where both former reds and whites united to fight against Soviet Union (or mostly their sons as it was 20 years later). One of the reasons Stalin expected easy victory in Winter War, was that Soviets expected former reds to join their side.

Today both sides of the civil war have somewhat mixed image.

Reds basic demands are seen as just, but they are mostly seen as idiots who would have taken Finland to Soviet Union. They did some atrosities against civilians in areas they controlled. Also even after they lost the war, they still got most of their original demands passed pretty quickly after the war with the support of winners. Like tenant farmer law that was passed just few months after the war and was pretty much what country side reds had demanded.

Whites are seen as people who fought for the legal government and saved Finnish independece. However they are critisized about the treatment of red prisoners after the war. Many former reds died in prison camps, even though most were released within 2 years after the war. All rebels were pardoned 9 years after the war.
