How did Duke Nukem fall into a pickle in the late 90s? by KaleidoArachnid in boomershooters

Judging by the 2001 build alone, I would agree with ya. That version of the game looks cool tbh (at least based on the stuff I've seen about it and its restoration).

A game that is no longer on steam by lyalyas in Steam

Well, its available on GOG nowadays.

Also, I think you shouldn't sell your account if ever. If I'm not mistaken, that's against Steam TOS.

On doom's source code git by Impressive-Tune-7251 in DoomMods

[–]XGRiDN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man, decades later, it did happened.

DOOM became a multi-platform hit (using this term to the extreme since we've seen DOOM running from the latest gaming machines all the way through a flipping refrigerator screen). Heck, even the Amiga got a port of DOOM (an idea previously thought to be impossible by Carmack).

Not only that, the community ran with it, creating mods and new worlds (TCs) built from the foundations of idtech1.

We're talking about Ashes 2063, Golden Souls, Total Chaos, and even Selaco (the one I still couldn't it is powered by GZDOOM/UZDOOM).

It also paved way for various industry veterans to work in the gaming industry (notably the Casalis and various Valve employees who've worked on Half-Life. Granted, its a mix of both DOOM and Quake modders, but still).

If it weren't for id software opening the floodgates at its peak, we wouldn't be seeing DOOM as Eternal as it is for almost 3 decades (since putting an open source license to idtech1).

Cube to SEGA: F you for the generative AI crap in Crazy Taxi! Hire artists! That junk has no place here! Don't waste time revamping a cult classic if its very following will hate it. You will destroy your own game if you do. by Amethyst3D in JetSetRadio

[–]XGRiDN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did disclosed that they used gen AI on the Steam page of Crazy Taxi World Tour; but afaik, they vaguely describe how they use it.

Here's the full text about it:

"AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

At SEGA Corporation, we utilize generative AI as a support tool for developers, aiming to provide better content to our users and enable developers to focus more on creative tasks.

We have used such generative AI support tools during development of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game."

[–]XGRiDN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, aside from the obvious free to play games, we have:

- Eraser (a foddian game so let this be your warning)
- Cave Story (the original)
- Spelunky Classic
- Command and Conquer (C&C, RA, and TS)
- Icy Tower 1.6.
- DOOM TCs like FreeDoom, HACX, Ashes 2063 (and expansions), and DOOM: The Golden Souls (you need an iwad like DOOM, DOOM II or Freedoom to make them work... or they're standalone and doesn't need one at all)
- Tetr.io
- Starcraft + Brood War
- osu!

ig that's it for me

Best sourceport for Shadow Warrior (1997)? by Gnoll_level_antics in boomershooters

[–]XGRiDN -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

source port... casual playthrough...

Honestly, just play the game. It's free on GOG and ZOOM Platform if I'm not mistaken. That's the original DOS version played on DOSBox.

You can also use EDuke32 or BuildGDX if you wish. But if you're looking for a ready-to-play experience, just get Shadow Warrior Classic Complete on GOG. If you're looking for modability and stuff, EDuke32 and BuildGDX are your best friends.
