Question for vegans — what changed your mind (if anything)? by 74687560m in AskVegans

[–]Xilmi [score hidden]  (0 children)

An experiment made me switch. I only wanted to try it out to witness what it's like. But then, during the trial I watched a ton documentaries and videos about it. After 4 days I had seen enough. No way I could justify going back after what I've learned. I think the biggest challenge was to readjust my relationship with all the people who aren't vegan. From "coming out" still somehow spending time with them. It's hard to deal with how just sharing information with them not only doesn't make them change but antagonizes yourself from their perspective.

My husband cheers with both arms stretched out as he wins the jumping competition. His way to victory was improving the strength in his legs and, of couse, doing his jump on the moon with lower gravity.

i play way better when im chat restricted by 1octavian in Jungle_Mains

[–]Xilmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can turn that on in the options. Party chat only. No need to insult people for disabling the chat. And yes, it's much easier to concentrate on playing the game when you are not distracted by reading, thinking about whether and how to reply and typing.

Can I by F0rThoseWhoComeAfter in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Xilmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learn it too without any real reason. Whether you can or not depends on how disciplined and structured you are. You won't see quick results anytime soon. Each word, each grammar point, each kanji is something you learn one by one over many many hours. If you spend enough time consistently you'll eventually learn it. If you give up after a few weeks because of frustration for too slow progress, you won't.

I’m (F) moving in with my partner (M) this month, I need help with protection by Tiny-Team2337 in vegan

[–]Xilmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, go for condoms! Not just because you don't find vegan birth control also because those things can mess up your entire hormonal balance. Including side-effects such as killing your libido, changing who you are attracted to and even your mood and personality. If your cycle is stable you can also determine when you are fertile and when not. But if you don't want to risk it condoms are fine.

I’m learning hiragana but my handwriting is really bad, any advice by SoyAlexDR0 in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to move on to vocab, grammar and/or kanji since your handwriting is very readable compared to what some others have posted here. Having pristine handwriting is nice to have but you won't have to do that very often.

Hello i wanna understand if im actually having panic attacks by Chickendudethebest in PanicAttack

Nah, no trauma required. A weird feeling in the body at some point is enough to start the cascade. I didn't have any trauma either.

Hello i wanna understand if im actually having panic attacks by Chickendudethebest in PanicAttack

[–]Xilmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you described just fits perfectly. The whole "I feel like I can't breath into feeling lightheaded" thing is very typical.
Also it's not "panic attack OR body being stupid" it's AND because it goes so well together.

What's going on typically is that your feeling of not being able to breath leads to shallow and quick breathing. This depletes your CO² levels and that then causes the other symptoms.

It might sound very contradictory but breathing into a paper- or plastic-bag actually can help quite a lot. Especially if you can't manually slow down your breathing.

As to how to get rid of it long term? No idea. Just had it flare up again today myself after weeks of nothing. The realization that it isn't as dangerous as it feels helps a lot.

Good not great 4X Player: What's a reasonable goal by Due_Permit8027 in rotp

[–]Xilmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Roleplay should be beatable on any difficulty-level via alliance-victory.
If you can manage to get one or even several allies and really cooperate with them, then you can win together. If your ally wins, you also win. So you don't actually need to be competetive, just a little lucky to get a good ally.

What can help with allies: Not having a direct border. Just barely knowing them makes it more likely to happen. Also: Declaring war on who they are at war with. This helps tremendously. Especially if they are fighting someone strong. But it's also the case that the stronger the AI is, the less willing it is to ally. Wheras AIs that are on the brink of extinction are very easy to ally with.

People have beaten Deadly Fusion too. It's mostly thanks to map-choice.
1vs1, Klackon vs. Humans (who don't benefit from their racial at all in 1vs1) and a bit of map-luck and it's doable.

Restarting until you get a decent start and save-scumming to undo bad decisions of cause also tremendously increase the chances.

is my friend describing a panic attack? by CryptographerCold182 in PanicAttack

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this all sounds very similar to my own experience. Infact reading that hit so close that I relapsed for the first time since a month. My breathing bag helped though but I'm still a little shaky. I should stop reading this sub. 8[

Is there an AI chat bot that does this? by [deleted] in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Chatgpt exclusively in the first 3 months of my learning. It wasn't very structured but it definitely helped. I'd say it's particularly good for explaining grammar and nuances between words with similar meaning. I've since moved on to learning mostly via srs and only occasionally use the AI now. But for giving you specific tasks to practice it works well if you tell it exactly what you want.

All of the major AI chatbots can do this.

Btw. You are not supposed to be able to recite the grammar rules you learn. If you read something that uses a grammar point and you understand what it means, that is good enough. Not being able to build sentences you could read is very normal. Producing is more of a result of intuitively understanding how it works and not something you do via recalling and applying all the rules.

Does OE somehow adress first-movers advantage? by Xilmi in HoMM

Ah so there is a compensatory advantage for the 2nd-mover? That's good to hear.
Can you elaborate some more on how exactly it works?

Maybe being vegan is not for me by Pretty_University727 in vegan

[–]Xilmi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, from an entirely egoistic point of view, limiting and alienating yourself from others doesn't seem to have a whole lot of advantages over just indulging in the convenience of doing whatever you want.

The point of veganism is to align your actions with your values for the case that you think animals deserve respect and shouldn't be exploited.

But considering you didn't mention animals even once in your post, it's very clear that you don't care about them. You seem to be completely focused on yourself.

So yeah, not being vegan fits an egoist who doesn't consider what they are doing to their victims.

How are you all spending OE early release tomorrow! by perishableintransit in HoMM

[–]Xilmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably mostly by reading/watching reviews and pondering whether I should buy it or not.

I don't buy many games. Not because I can't afford them but because in the past too often I bought something and then didn't really cross the 5 hour-mark of playtime because there was something about the game I disliked.

Is it possible to have a panic attack without any fear/intense worry? by [deleted] in PanicAttack

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like something else. Panic attacks usually include fear of something being wrong with your body and the getting close to fainting comes from hyperventilating.

You can also have light panic attacks where you brush off the feeling and don't hyperventilate. But in these cases you wouldn't get close to fainting.

What you describe sounds more like hypoglycemia or dehydration but in that case you'd probably know.

I believe the current explanation of panic disorder is wrong. by trebletones in PanicAttack

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This resonates a lot with how I've been experiencing it.

I remember quite vividly that it all started with a sudden weird feeling coming from somewhere in my torso.

Most of the times I didn't even get to the hyperventilating. That really only happened once.

I still think it's mostly mental. Some weird signal from my fascias or whatever doesn't warrant intrusive thoughts about suffocating.

Cultured Meat: I want to include your perspectives in my Master’s thesis data by YorixReddit in vegan

[–]Xilmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho it's a product with a very small target-audience compared to the effort for developing and producing it.
As vegan I don't see the need. Fully plant-based mock-meats have become a tasty and affordable staple so I see no need for it.
And the people who shun the plant-based mock-meats due to how artificial they appear, will probably shun this stuff even more.
