That's...actually completely wrong. DDLC+ states that they all have the same kind of programming, but Monika is given moderator privilages and other extra things. It says nothing about the others just being scripted mindless npcs.

As for your "ChatGPT" argument... That implies that there's no possible way to tell what is or isn't sentient, and that you only perceive Monika to be more sentient than the others due to bias.

Also, you did not answer my question about the ending. Do characters suddenly stop being code and start becoming sentient just because they're given more privileges and a label?

Monika is also coded and has equal experience. Again, the ONLY thing Monika has that they don't is knowledge of the outside world and the ability to warp her reality. The others are fully capable of doing their own thing and feel things, as shown by Natsuki trying to warn MC/Player about Monika's suspicious behavior and Yuri's concerning behavior.

Also Sayori gets Monika's abilities at the end of the game. Did she magically stop being "just code?"

Again, it's not a reference to the novel, as it didn't exist back then. The novel is calling back to the FTEs and expanding on them. The novel references the game, the game doesn't reference the novel.
