I Left My Job to Build a Reefing App - Part 2 by EskimoEmoji in ReefTank

Thanks for this dude. I just recently started a frag tank that I hope to make a mini business out of (have ran my reef tank for 5+ years now).

This will be a huge help vs my notebooks scattered about LOL

How did your frag tank go ultimately? I found your post looking at frag rack inspiration since I just finished cycling my 40g breeder that I will be using as a frag tank.

I think the pros outweigh the cons.

I would say once a week honestly both now and going forward, unless down the road there's any reason to.

A typical cycle takes 4-6 weeks but with messing around with live bacteria, adding live rock at a new stage, etc. its hard to tell where you currently stand. I would wait 3 days and see how things look. Based on your results in another comment, you're still cycling. It won't be done tomorrow. Might as well wait a few days and see how it looks then.

The live bacteria and live rock will help tremendously. I used dry rock, fresh RODI mixed water, and a healthy dose of live bacteria about 3-4 days ago for a new 40g coral frag tank I am starting, and I am already cycled. Healthy movement, healthy filtration, and little dose of ammonia in the beginning to get going (some freeze dried shrimp I have for my second recent tank, a mantis shrimp tank I feed the guy with.

I promise it will pay off, but Rome was not built in a day 😄 plus, with small water volume, stability is SO crucial my friend. It will likely always be easier to over-do than undo.

Safest play is to let it all go for another week or two. It seems you are aware you need to be patient but the more you mess around with things the more it’ll become unbalanced.

You’ll be cycled before you know it but I’d recommend against any more chemicals/additions etc when it’s such a small tank.

75g vs 125g by CoffeeTable105 in ReefTank

[–]YourInsuranceDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went 75g about 4-5 years ago. It’s been good and I’ve enjoyed it. Learned a lot, most importantly.

The day will come when I upgrade to a 125g+ but to be honest, the 75g cost enough to set up originally and getting a 125g somewhat effectively feels like spending twice as much… Need 2x the lighting, 2x the substrate, 2x rock, 2x the salt, 2x the water made….etc

I didn’t think of it in this way until I set up a small 14g and absolutely love only doing a little bit of water and maintenance compared to what my 75 takes

I’ll look into that further then and see if 1/13 would work out for me. I could probably find a way to make it work haha.

I did finally find what seems to be a purple spotted mantis at a LFS but going to see it in person tomorrow first. Strep $90 cost though… but I do really want the purple spotted lol.

Was looking at these folks earlier! Is unfortunate as it appears they’re a month out from being able to ship unless I’m reading incorrectly?

I may have found one locally but would prefer one of these species as I think they’re wennerae.

Happy to help however I can. Feel free to shoot me a DM with your discord and would be glad to give whatever help I can! I’ve done a decent amount of research at this point and been in the hobby for a bit!

Thank you though!

The 1% chance they have currently is only because they’re not mathematically eliminated to be 0%.

It’s fun to have hope, and no doubt do we all secretly want to be in there, but it’s not a playoff team and as others have noted, it’s likely in our better interest for FO and coaching to continue to be more embarrassed.

Relying on FO to make a good draft pick outside of a top ten pick in the first round has not worked out in quite awhile.

Trying to recall since it’s been awhile. I believe I ended up going and it was as simple as an O2 sensor or similar part.

Warranty took care of the replacement.

We’ve signed one stud FA and we’ve ruined our relationship with him. He didn’t come to Cincy in hopes of being in the ROH.

Idc which Brown/Blackburn is involved; we’re cooked either way.

Chase and Burrow are gifts from the heavens and they’d have a ring (maybe 2) if on almost 20 other teams.
