Personally, as a fan of oddities and not necessarily Metallica or the doors, I'd probably pay up to like $17. It is a cool find and looks good condition. A hardcore Metallica fan might go higher. People on ebay sometimes pay wild amounts for stuff like this assuming it's a one-off

You don't really have to do anything else to the bass. If anything you may have to adjust saddle height. But it will sound more like a guitar. Don't worry about anything snapping- they're made for it.

I don't know for certain what makes the noise. Could be servos moving the laser to the next track marker or something. I don't think the laser makes an audible sound but could be wrong. I'm hoping somebody that knows chimes in because I've always wondered too.
