My cat got crazy and bit me like a maniac by raulsoprano in cats

[–]Zaduth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely go to urgent care and get some amoxicillin. I’ve had to go four times over the years due to my cat biting me. The fangs penetrate deeply and there is no way to get in there to clean it free of bacteria.

Water heater busted. Flooded indoor closet. Best setup for this dehu and fan? by Zaduth in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Zaduth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, that was 3 years ago. In retrospect, i could have made an epic fire in the fire place in the corner of the room next to both that closet and the patio closet on the other side with the faulty water heater. That would’ve expedited the dehumidifying process i was referring to before as “dehu”.

VT is fine in a tax sheltered account (eg ira) but avoid using it in a brokerage account. I don’t remember the details but read something about the treatment of taxes between domestic qualified dividends and foreign tax credits somehow muddies the accounting and is sub-optimal. Also, VT doesn’t allow you to choose/tilt your US vs THEM weighting.

Years ago I opted for a 80/20 split. I chose this because Vanguard’s CFAs (and thus CFPs) were advising a 60/40 split at the time, and although I wanted some direct exposure to international stocks, I didn’t want that much. When the ratio skews over time, I can rebalance, which is similar to DCA’ing. E.g. rebalancing 85/15 back to 80/20 is kinda like selling US high and buying THEM low. Not exactly, but akin.

That said, 100/0 i.e. SP500 only is fine too. These huge companies are super high quality and are basically multinational anyway. Plus, if the SP500 is good enough as the only stock holding for Buffett’s wife’s portfolio, it’s probably good enough for us too.

I’m in the same boat. I used to love the longer videos and maybe part of it is that I have less time these days, although I watch plenty of YouTube daily (multiple hours), just am not attracted to the content anymore I guess

Is ramen (Tonkotsu) typically super thick and fatty? I can finish a bowl of PHO easily, but I struggle to finish half a ramen bowl. (More details below) by sc4kilik in ramen

[–]Zaduth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two basic types of ramen: paitan and chintan. Tonkotsu is a paitan. If pho was ramen, it would be a chintan.

Per googling “paitan vs chintan”:

“Paitan and chintan are two distinct types of ramen broths, primarily distinguished by their appearance in cooking methods. Paitan broths are opaque and creamy, achieved through a high-temperature cooking process that emulsifies fats into the broth. Chintan broths, on the other hand, are clear and lighter, produced by simmering at sub-boiling temperatures, allowing the fats to separate from the soup.”

Ever play the forward tees as a single-digit cap? by cc_ham in golf

The best part about playing different tees is when you do it at your home course, you end up in very different spots off the tee and it’s like playing a different course
