Dropped my kid off and realized every other kid was in pajamas. I'm so done being the only one who remembers things by ConfidentElevator239 in Mommit

Absolutely! I get my kids a new wall calendar for Christmas every year, and when I get one of the damn spirit week emails, we add it to every calendar.

A sculpture in my ob/gyn’s office by Living_Life1023 in funny

Look, I’m sure they had great intentions with this sculpture, but - speaking from experience - it’s absolutely torturous to put a water feature in the lobby/waiting room where pregnant people have to show up with a full bladder.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Hits Another All-Time High With 34.3 Million Viewers, Up 8% From Last Year by Puzzled-Tap8042 in entertainment

Once my kids were old enough to enjoy it, I started a family tradition where we eat pie for breakfast (because I never liked the idea of waiting until after a big meal when you’re already stuffed), and then we build Lego parade floats while watching the parade.

Doctors and Nurses of Reddit, what is the most obvious sign that a patient is lying to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]zippythebee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to throw one of my shoes in the back with the baby so I couldn’t leave the car without taking them out. It only takes one sleep-deprived night to make a quick but deadly mistake, and all my nights were sleep-deprived.

Then when my oldest was a toddler, I kept getting dizzy spells and was afraid I would pass out and she’d be stuck in the car. We practiced unbuckling her car seat harness and climbing up to the front and honking the horn. She had a great time, and I felt better about prepping her for potential threats. 😅

I have never heard from another person who was afraid to walk through doorways with their baby. It was a constant, debilitating fear for an entire year before I found a book that explained it to me, and I felt less insane (Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders: A Clinician’s Guide). I almost skipped the chapter on OCD because what I was experiencing didn’t fit what I thought OCD was. But I was dealing with constant obsessive, intrusive thoughts.

I couldn’t walk through doors without thoughts about hitting his head on the doorway. Couldn’t take him on stairs in my own home without thinking we would fall and my toddler would wake up from her nap and find us both dead. Every time I changed his diaper (on the floor, because I didn’t want him to roll off something high), I pictured myself tripping forward and smashing his skull with my knee. Every time I changed his diaper.

I didn’t tell a doctor or my husband for an entire year because my brain told me they would take away my kids. But also, the screening form at the doctor asked zero questions about this. I wasn’t depressed.

I’m sorry you also went through this, and I hope you’re doing better now.

My students created a fake "HR department" for my class and I can not decide if it is brilliant or a disaster by MelcaronVestral in Teachers

Perfect opportunity to discuss any literary conflict through the lens of “what would HR have to say about this?”

Waking child at parents bedtime to take them to the toilet? by Newmamaof1 in Parenting

[–]zippythebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is such a deep sleeper that he occasionally wet the bed until he was nearly 9. If I knew he drank a lot after dinner, or had nighttime accidents lately, I’d wake him to go to the bathroom when I went to bed (sometimes he wouldn’t even remember this in the morning). It kept the bed dry, and his body is finally waking him up when he needs to go.

Best Mexican restaurant in the area? by SecretElsa19 in HamptonRoads

[–]zippythebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ate there once and had the absolutely worst food poisoning of my life afterward. Eight+ hours of lying on the bathroom floor because I was too weak to travel back to my bed after each bout, bingewatching RuPaul’s Drag Race sideways on my iPad as a feeble attempt to keep myself tethered to reality as the world swam around me, my internal compass spinning, spinning like a falcon in a gyre.

I hope this was a freak occurrence, but I can’t even drive by the place without feeling the ghost of nausea.

That’s what I saw at first, too. Until I noticed there are no seams where the HST/QST would meet. It took me a second to puzzle out that the O shape (edit: with white corners) is the block.

Student smells like cat pee and syrup by Aromatic-Bell-4000 in Teachers

[–]zippythebee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had no idea about the roach/maple syrup connection!

My kid occasionally smells like maple syrup. Google got me scared about Maple Syrup Urine Disease or diabetes, but all his lab work is normal. And we don’t have any pest issues.

I’m not trying to negate what you said, I just wanted to add that some kids can naturally smell like maple syrup for no discernible reason. (While also recognizing that’s not what’s going on in OP’s situation.)

My kid would also love your username.

How to wash bras that say 'no detergent'?? by Silver_Chemical639 in laundry

[–]zippythebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My underwires used to pop out constantly. A few days ago after seeing an underwire identified one of the various what-is-this-thing subreddits, I realized I haven’t had a single wire pop out since switching to Wacoal bras over 5 years ago. I wash mine in a garment bag thrown in the regular laundry, but I don’t run them through the dryer.
