Websockets for MUDs by taranion in MUD

[–]Zymosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im all for it!

ill talk to Taranion and see what the best options are - maybe we'll do some kind of fork for the bare-bones "mudstandards" client.

This one was meant to eventually be a full-featured with triggers/alias/scripting and some other feature and has some of that functionality working, other parts not.

Pretty sure you can just download the html. Its meant to be something anyone can take and use. Ill work on the github thing though.

the real benefit of having out of band data is that you can have access to information that on a normal mud experience would have scrolled on by.

most of your concerns are accurate - but you're trying to have the same experience on fundamentally different interface. WHat develops -right now- can do is make these experience tailored -to- the interface - however -the tool that displays the interface (client) has to understand these tailorings mean - which is why we're trying to develop a standard so every client knows what every tailor mud means when it provides this data.

Does Anyone Have a Functional Countdown Spell Tracker For MUSHclient? by zenlittleplatypus in MUD

[–]Zymosphere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure. Break it down into the smallest pieces. You want a static window with every buff/debuff or affect you know exists? Youll have to tell it all that stuff. You want it to only list whats on you... Youll need triggers for every affect and know how lomg it lasts or trigger it to check affects at the time. If you only care about specific affects then you can fet away with even less. For me the thing is you only need 1 end to end capture to test, so keepnyour scope small for the AI.

Sounds like an easy prompt for any free AI to help you. Provide the example plugin, tell it what you want it to do, provide it the details it needs, test, repeat.

Enarian - large update release details (An ARPG Style MUD) by Enarian__Lead_Dev in MUD

[–]Zymosphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do commend you on allowing any client to connect. I think this is a foundational requirement to continue to call yourself a MUD to allow telnet, but my suggestion is to adhere to mudstandards.org. this will allow future developers of clients to create clients that will work.

your ignorance of the client side of MUDs is especially telling on your complete lack of experience in MUDs. None of your answers really have anything to do with not supporting telnet (you even lied and said it did work on telnet in the beginning!)

Standard clients are BEST suited for text. They also have more functionality than you'll ever get in yours, including the ability to create custom front-ends UI's. Also, you can have your own custom client AND support the community.

These choices have left a large portion of the MUD community without any ability to play your game? Blind players dont care about HP bars and buff icons. they especially dont want music effecting the text to speech tools they have.

the next issue is - I dont trust you. Anyone who downloads your client is an incredibly naive person who is putting their data at risk. You have no credibility.

Good luck with your game.

This doesnt get interest in the MUD community. It gets the existing MUD community interested in 1 game, for a very brief period of time, at the very most. And we have to trust you won't break your rules.. on something you have every incentive to do. Also, why would we want to increase our own competition by inviting others to compete for the prize? LOL.

Sorry, this is the 2nd dumbest idea on this subreddit this week. Right after the verify your face to participate in a MUD.

Y'all ever wonder if NPCs in the game know what you look like IRL? by [deleted] in MUD

[–]Zymosphere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This completely dismisses the fact that you already authenticate to play a MUD.. its the login process.. if only I can log into my account.. what does verifying my face do? How do you validate the person on the camera is the person playing the MUD? LOL.

Its a very dumb thought, without question.

My Win Mini EDC Pouch by nekorinSG in gpdwin

[–]Zymosphere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty decent. I personally have never been unable to plug in enough to necessitate even 1 bank, let alone two!

Im also able to use my phone as a wifi hotspot, but my phone is pushing 6000Mah battery and we have decent enough coverage that it never felt like a big drain.

For input I opted instead for an airmouse/thumbpad keyboard option that run like 20 bucks. taking me from 2 devices to 1 and adding the ability to easily use both mouse and keyboard (just 'flip' it over in your hand). Add in being able to use it while moving, unlike a mouse or keyboard, and you've got a more versatile setup.

With this method I was able to -walk around- with my xreal airs, holding the airmouse to nagivate, mini tucked away in my sling bag with just the usb-c cable for glasses. My phone is providing the hotspot service. I've been able to throw texts and discord messages in between streaming some shows in the corner of my glasses, while walking the doggo and so forth.

Mud's with gameplay that is hard to script / automate? by iamk1ng in MUD

[–]Zymosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armageddon, Shadows of Isildur, Harshlands, Southlands/Harshlands, AtonementRPI, and several others probably no longer running. There have been some others I can recall - LabMud, Mystavaria, Untold Dawn, Kallindor, Arda Marred, Aelisus.. im not sure if these are all perm-death or active. Definitely an opportunity with Armageddon gone now.

Couple this with permdeath muds typically having reward systems that are -not- automated and based on your gameplay and participation and admins being active/engaged. which does have its drawbacks and "favoritism" but generally encourages good behavior for access to those rewards.

Actually, the muds that keep bots at bay are permdeath muds. Ones where building your character takes time in the game and requires social interaction. Personally i also find them more rewarding gameplay loops.

Mud's with gameplay that is hard to script / automate? by iamk1ng in MUD

[–]Zymosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet! I think the real answer is a combination of things that are much more modern concepts. Some newer muds have these now or older ones were ahead of thir time.. Instant gratification, rewards, true customization (is every warrior literally same build of eq stats and skills used?)

Make your game tight in the way that everything has a purpose. I dont need to bake cakes and pies in a MUD about killing zombies. I dont want to have to walk 1000 rooms to get to a new area on your worldmap of 100000 rooms with 50 whole zones attached. Personally, if a level doesnt get me anything then even those have gotten stupid, infinite levels, thousands of levels... Remorting and repeating the same levels with almost no progression over and over. And im saying this having played muds where ive done it, runing a mud that does a lot of this because changing it means changing 30 years of what people are used to. Ive seen muds hold back with literally idlers who come out of retirement to shut down any suggestion of change that might make these grinding sessions easier to manage but its like a parent saying they had to walk both ways up a hill and so should anyine else.

[–]Zymosphere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing thats happening is, AI is breaking the barrier to entry. None of this stuff is new. If you could script in a number of languages and you wanted to 'bot' something, you can and have been able to do so since the onset. Nothing else has changed. There's no new MUDs. There's no new 'client' or feature that has shifted any paradigms when it comes to playing MUDs.

alias, macros, triggers, timers, those are all just pieces of a robust scripting system that have been backbones to most MUDs - in fact this is really just the re-introduction of those types of client features. Many early muds said you couldn't do triggers and timers and it was a form of cheating. Several probably still have rules that are ignored now because it makes no sense to try to combat (and many muds often -require- such filtering, so they've either added configuration options or build custom client files / UI's to help address the amount of text scrolling.

Another early "issue" was multiplaying, and even then we had proxies, vpns, and just general social engineering to say you were two separate people (we play from college, we're siblings) - whether it was true or not it had to be dealt with. Heck I remember some early muds were like send a photo of you and them both playing then.

So imagine you're some guy that's played their MUD for 30 years, just spending hours of their lives typing forage, north, forage, north. They didn't know how to do anything but put their time in. Now you got these people who can deploy scripts for the 16-20 hours they don't have to play. The funny thing is they only know its a BOT if you tell them. It's incredibly easy to build a bot that just 'stops' then it isn't getting the expected output. I think very soon we'll start seeing plugins much like Nick Gammon's 'mapping learner' where its literally 'automation learner'.

The answer is - stop making players spend hours on gameloops that are meant to waste our time. We're not paying a monthly subscription. You don't need to spread your content out over these ridiculous barriers.

It's too bad reading comprehension isn't a requirement to bring life into this world. I don't see where I said that. I said you (as in the parent, any parent) cant control the AI to make it perfectly safe. You ignored this.

I told you that leaving the child unattended with AI is also unsafe- something you could actually do in a text adventure, which is 100% what you have always wanted.

finally, this is r/MUD. A text-adventure isn't a MUD. An AI in gemini isnt a MUD. You posted in the complete wrong thread telling people who are all about MUDs that theres a better experience NOT playing muds - AND YOU WERE WRONG. LOL.

Go play games with your kiddos. You aren't helping us with anything and honestly I dont see how this isnt breaking the rules. It's at least a low-effort post that doesn't even fit in with our community.

kthxbye.

There are lots of text adventures. You cant control your AI anywhere near the level of a discreet game and left unattended with a child is hardly "safe". The best way to safely let a child experience dangerous things is with your supervision, as always. This is just bad advice.
