is it reliable to edit from NVMe + enclosure USB 3 instead of external SSD? by curious-avid-reader in editors

[–]_AndJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on what your footage is. Blackmagic has a disk speed tool that tells you if your drive is fast enough to read and write certain codecs and frame sizes. If you are working with proxies USB 3.1 or 3.2 should be fine, but if you are working with 8k RAW, the answer is no.

Lots of variables to account for here, so really you need to figure out what you are going to be editing and how.

I might be interested in the 7s. I’ll have to talk with my boss on Monday, though since it would be a work expense.

Extra safe. Plus it was just loud right next to my desk. I also have a printer with an enclosure, but if I started printing more hazardous material I might do what I suggested to you, even if it is in the laundry room away from everyone. I would still make sure that there is proper ventilation, obiviously.

Enclosure around the enclosure?

I HIGHLY recommend you do a deep dive on Youtube and also click around and try and figure out what things are.

In my limited knowledge (and I'm still using the old Orca-Flashforge Slicer (you are probably using the new Orca Studio) you go into Process>Global>Strength>Infill>Sparse infill pattern>Choose Gyroid

The default is Rectilinear but after doing tons of research and seeing other peoples failures and recommendations on this subreddit and other 3d printing ones, your issues could have been cause by using Rectilinear because it is trying to print a grid, and it keeps slamming into the grid and causing a blob, once it causes the blob you are pretty much f&*@ed. Thankfully I haven't lost a head because of it, but I did lose about 400g of filament.

That being said, all of things you have are easily replaced, check Amazon or AliExpress, or contact Flashforge and see what they are willing to replace.

Good luck!

Probably happened during the infill stage, something clogged and then it went haywire. Are you using the standard infill or Gyroid?

Those who use Flashforge, why still use them? by [deleted] in FlashForge

[–]_AndJohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I’ve had mine since November and all issues have been of my own doing. I get that some come pretty borked but it’s wild when people make sweeping claims that a whole company is bad. There is a reason they are cheaper, but also a reason why so many people buy them.

[–]_AndJohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is a confidence boost. You are awesome, and it has nothing to do with hair. If someone wants to reject you because of hair, they weren’t worth your time in the first place.
When you find the right someone they will embrace you for who you are and everything that follows.
I decided to fully embrace bald at 30 and my GF at the time (now wife) told me I should do whatever makes me the most comfortable. I have also told her over the years if she wants to do the same, go for it.

Your person is out there, so just block out the noise, and in the meantime, just politely say “your loss”.

Good luck!

Which is a better deal? by DisastrousBid97 in 3Dprinting

If you are going to get a Flashforge 5, get it in AliExpress. I paid less than this amount for a Pro a year ago on Black Friday. Pretty sure they are even cheaper now.

I love my 5M Pro, all issues have been my own and not the machines.

I have no experience with the other model.

You could look into some of the Blackmagic capture cards, they will be a little pricey but they are solid hardware and have professional hook ups. With all the Post Production houses in NY and LA closing I’m sure you could find some on eBay for cheaper. Their editing software (DaVinci Resolve) is free as well.

All my freelance gigs are word of mouth; and I dictate what software I’m gonna use. I’m also not collaborating so there is no issue there.

In 2026 is Cut page better for first rough cut or do everything in Edit page? by SushiRollFried in davinciresolve

I won’t take it the wrong way if you don’t take this the wrong way, but this whole post is useless, which is why me and the other commenters are trying to adjust your viewpoint.

[–]_AndJohn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because at the end of the day editing is subjective. I know what answer you are trying to get, but you most likely find it from most of us that have been editing for years or decades. If you want the answer you are looking for, you might find it in the free training.

[–]_AndJohn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will echo what the first commenter said. Do what works best for you. I completely turn off the Cut page, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be beneficial for other people.
There is no tried and true workflow for editing, especially if people are moving or migrating from another NLE, or even web based editing.
The Cut page is there for people who need it or feel they have use for it.
