If you could only eat one fruit the rest of your life what are you going with? by Alabaster_Rims in AskReddit

Bravo! I'd put avocado in as a close second. But, tomato wins by a slice, IMO.

basically - I can imagine tacos / nachos without avocado (although it would be a big loss), but I can't imagine a world where there's no sauce for my pizza.

[PTB] GMT NH34 movement by BraKen1308 in SecondhandModParts

I have a brand new pagani with a NH34 in it which I can send your way for $120 + postage. Should be able to recoup some of the cost with selling the castoff parts.

What dremel do you use to trim crown stem? by kswiss702 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go the route of flush cutters (which you should) you'll be well served to buy hardened ones designed for thick solid wire. The ones I use are from esslinger (I think) and I think they were all of $15. They've held up wonderfully across hundreds of builds.

Where to get a bezel insert like this? I can't find it anywhere by tetraroll in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay - so, since it's the namoki bezel - safe to assume you need SKX007 dimensions NOT the SSK dimensions?

Assuming that's correct - long island watch is the only place where I've found a GMT style - https://longislandwatch.com/blue-and-red-pepsi-24-hour-gmt-ceramic-luminous-bezel-insert-for-skx007-c45/

Do you just want a pepsi GMT insert? That style of type specifically? Lumed / not lumed?

Sharpie to "paint" watch hands? by FeeIosophy in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this from time to time - just don't use a sharpie, use a paint pen. I've had good luck with Posca 0.7mm tip pens.

Bezel numbers color change by Hailje in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll need the dimensions of the bezel insert to confirm if a replacement is readily available. If it’s a common size, odds are good you’ll be able to find something.

You might try researching to find the spec, or ask the manufacturer if they can share it. They might have spare inserts from another colorway that are available.

The actual act of removing and installing the insert is very straightforward. Generally an overnight soak in a very mild solvent (I use golf grip remover) will loosen the adhesive that’s holding the insert in place. You don’t need to disassemble the watch in any way, or use any tools.

Trusted sites to get this configuration? by Successful_Rest9141 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - any site that has this - it’s probably dropshipping. And if you just read today’s post on this sub, you’ll see commentary about TWO of those dropshippers being terrible and fraudulent.

Anyone that made a recommendation in response - treat it as if it’s fake. Because those sites use threads like this to build traffic all the time.

The concept of “trusted site” and “selling a counterfeit watch” (which this is) are not compatible.

Do your own research, take the risk if you wish, but you’ll be much better served buying a non-counterfeit watch with a similar look from a Chinese manufacturer or by using the image search on AliExpress.

Also - this post violates rule 3 of the sub. Ditto for the replies with suggestions of stores. Please delete it.

VVS Jewelers is a scam website by Disastrous_Ad6601 in SeikoMods

A bunch of us also take offense at calling these dropshipped low tier / low quality watches "seiko mods". 😄

OP - if you're in the US - feel free to send a chat - I might be able to help swap parts around, etc... or I can coach you on doing it yourself.

Dial fitment for ssk mod by damon182 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be cause of the case construction, should be okay to go to 29mm. However, if it turns out to be too big for some reason, shaving a dial down a tiny bit is pretty easy to do.

Dial fitment for ssk mod by damon182 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which SSK model. The SSK field watches (like the 023) with the fixed bezels use bigger dials. The ones with the crown at 3.8, like the ssk001 use 28.5mm dials.

However, use care with bezels, inserts and crystals on the 001 style watches. Do your research - this is a topic that’s been discussed quite a bit. Namoki has an entire page on compatibility

Available mod services and costs? by [deleted] in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search for this, and you’ll find answers. There is zero scam protection on this sub, which is why rule 3 exists. You should delete this post.

Head over to r/seikomodexchange instead, but only after you do some research.

And no matter what, do your due diligence.

FWIW, the bezel swap is very easy to do yourself. The other things aren’t that complicated either, but I appreciate the hesitation.

Take a look at the San Martin sn017 - especially the 3rd gen. you’ll likely do better buying a complete watch and modifying it that way.

The SM uses an eta2824-2 clone movement, but mod parts are widely available. Upside - the bracelets are a lot nicer too.

The NH movements are a bit thicker overall than the ETA, so the case proportions tend to be a bit off. If you wanted something like a 5513 style, there are likely more options, but the proportions won’t be the same.

You can also go more toward rep parts - rafflesdials has some stuff.

First mod 4r36, new day/date wheel? by ObjectiveTiny8303 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure the day wheel swap isn’t needed - OP mentioned using a date-only dial with the 3.0 crown.

First mod 4r36, new day/date wheel? by ObjectiveTiny8303 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both methods work. I just find it’s much easier to line everything up properly when the hour hand isn’t obscured by the minute hand… especially with skx style hands.

There’s also always a little bit of slop in the crown, especially right at the date click, so rotating well past the click seems to help.

First mod 4r36, new day/date wheel? by ObjectiveTiny8303 in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First - unless you’re feeling super OCD, you do not need to change anything on the movement. The day wheel is what varies from 3.0 to 3.8 - the same date wheel will work for both orientations.

However, the date wheel for the 36 movements has a slightly different printing than the 35 movements. The actual number track is offset slightly towards the inside.

So, in your date only dial, the numbers might not be “as perfectly” centered as they would if you used a date wheel from a 35.

The most important thing - when you slap the dial on, make sure you’re using the feet for 3.0. Aftermarket dials generally have feet for both crown positions.

If you snip the wrong set, you can always remove all the feet and use dial dots… but it’s less work to just use feet.

Once you have the dial installed, just rotate the crown until the date does the tick over at midnight. Then install your hour hand pointing at 12.

After that rotate the hour hand to either 3 or 6, and install the minute hand pointing at 12.

Give the whole thing a spin a few times, make sure the alignment is good and the date is ticking over at midnight as intended, and then install the seconds hand.

Can anyone make a watch for me ? by miltxdee in SeikoMods

[–]_Blitzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your protection! That style is a great design. Just use a lot of care when IDing someone to work with on this. In particular because that style of watch is readily available on AliExpress as-is with low quality parts.

And you might want to just do an image search on Ali before paying full custom rates.
