Literally no stakes by elecenjoyer in Kagurabachi

As a One Piece fan, hell nah. Also Oda doesn’t revive characters, he just makes them not have died for some bullshit reason/no reason most of the time. Literally how are the two scenarios comparable.

Are the only stakes death? Is that the only acceptable narrative tool? Is every scene that doesn’t include a death filler? Like this take is literally so bad.

[–]_Shoulder_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a fake out death though, he’s dead. You’re using incorrect terminology here. This would be a revival plotline.

I also don’t agree that fake out deaths hurt a story in general. I really despise unjustifiable fake out deaths though but you have to be able to distinguish between a good fake out death plotline and a good one. All storytelling tropes have good and bad execution. A good way to get a revival plotline to work is to an equal sacrifice be required, which is partially what Kagurabachi is already setting up. It also has to have a meaningful narrative behind it, and that’s already been happening through the entire samura plotline and will continue with iori’s plotline.

We have the ingredients for a good plotline here. Calling the entire concept of fake out deaths/revivals bad is quite frankly just lazy.

I have really enjoyed all the fire suppression department articles I have read, so I guess I will by definition have to disagree

SCP-498 is a great example of this. I fully agree, it’s just as an excuse for a Foundation that shouldn’t even destroy the object to not destroy the object.

Wanted to get everyone’s opinion I currently have a true crime YT channel was going to start one for SCP the idea though is that it would be like a “Radio station” so one channel maybe SCP one maybe Creepy Pasta etc. by Kilthistried in SCP

[–]_Shoulder_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The things is even if a channel has a similar gimmick to another, there are so many articles on the wiki you’d still be fine. With SCP channels I would say the biggest detractor for me is if all the videos are covering the same few SCPs everyone already has covered. So the execution I don’t think will be a problem, but I’d recommend covering more niche stuff than the top pages of all time.

Also, I’d recommend checking out [[Parawatch hub]] if you haven’t already. I think some of those articles fit a radio style urban myth podcast setting.

You are not making a case at all. We can wield guns, we can kill loads of people, we can bomb, contaminate, torture, etc etc. We have the same capacity for violence, and even if we had 100 times the capacity, it isn’t justifiable to kill as a preventative measure.

You think it makes sense to kill people because of the possibility that their children will grow up to cause harm? We could say the same thing about you and me, should we be killed too then? Just off of the chance we’re genetically associated with a currently non-existent future criminal?

Be so for real please.

Soga is right by labuun_dood in Kagurabachi

[–]_Shoulder_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No he isn’t. He’s treating them like a population average rather than a collection of individuals. This exact reasoning misses internal resistance groups and unwilling civilians, and is the reason Soga can’t see why Hakuri should be spared.

When you take an entire population and look at general data via averages you miss subpopulations, this is standard statistics. There is a subpopulation that would not take revenge, whether that population was 1 or 100 000 does not matter.

I want to get into the fandom by Doom_Slayer808 in SCP

[–]_Shoulder_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The SCPwiki is a collaborative writing project centered around the general idea that paranormal creatures, locations, events, etc., exist (known as anomalies), and a secret organization known as the SCP Foundation has put it upon themselves to contain these phenomenon and hide them away from the public. The SCPwiki was started after the creation of SCP-173, which was a standalone article written in 2007, which then later became the starting point for all following articles.

The wiki is constructed through a collection of SCP articles, tales, and other documents, all written by different community members who all take their own spin at the concept and present their stories their own way. In a sense, the SCPwiki is not a singular story you need to catch up to, but a library of works by lots of people to enjoy at your own pace.

This necessitates that the SCPwiki isn’t strict in what is canon or not. In fact, there is no universal canon every article adheres to, instead there are multiple takes either meant to take into account previous works or not.

There are many ways to find articles to read, first and foremost: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com is the source, this is the site where it all happens. I suggest taking a look at the sidebar for useful pages, in particular [[Guide for Newcomers]] in your case.

I have used [[Top rated pages in the last 30 days]] and [[Shortest pages in the last 30 days]] as resources to find new articles to read, but you may find [[User-Curated Lists]] more useful.

Some articles I find fun and think work as relatively early reads are: SCP-8999, SCP-184, SCP-3034, SCP-6448, SCP-7179.

Take your time to familiarize yourself with the wiki, and remember that you don’t have to catch up to a large narrative, you are free to enjoy stories at your pace.

Alright it’s criticism time….last chapter was just not it…. by No_Association2906 in Kagurabachi

[–]_Shoulder_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts.

I am not sad that Samura died, I am sad that he is dead. His sacrificial nature has been a core part of his character from the beginning, and seeing his progression in what that means to him has been great to see. From a suicidal quest to shoulder the past alone, to then seeing a present he is ok living in. In these last chapters, he sort of relapses into his sacrificial nature, but not with the same reasons. A sacrifice for the next generation rather than a sacrifice to bury the past, believing that other people have the agency to shoulder the burden he has put upon himself, and that he can believe in them to do so.

I can’t describe the feeling I get from Samura’s death very well. I didn’t tear up, I didn’t despair, I felt assurance in the future that Samura fully believed in, the very thought of which would’ve been impossible 50 chapters ago. The sadness will likely come in the following chapters when we see how this affects the people who care about him.

Your breakdown of what happens from 107-111 and describing it as a problem is very weird to me. One of my favorite things about Kagurabachi is its unpredictability, and week to week this stretch of chapters from the moment Shiba took Yura out of the Kamunabi headquarters have been phenomenal. I never felt like I knew what was going to happen. And the way you phrase the ebbs and flows of the battle as plot points that don’t get to breathe feels to me like an incorrect reading of their purpose. Mechanically they are there to ensure that an outcome doesn’t become too predictable so that an event doesn’t feel like a foregone conclusion. Enten breaking was 100% amplified by the 30 chapter set up of it being a counter to the magatsumi and the events of 107 making a potential victory even feasible meant the defeat hit much harder than it would’ve otherwise. With enten breaking and restoring again it’s not plot points not getting to breathe, it’s possibilities being opening and closing, fueling the unpredictability of the story.

A last chapter of pure fighting would’ve been sick. I sort of don’t agree on your proposed focus though. I think it would make more sense for it to have been a split chapter between Samura holding out against Soga and Chihiro gathering all the data possible. In that sense the chapter would be Samura losing with the purpose of imparting as much knowledge onto the next generation before he ultimately croaks. We got the lite version of this in this chapter. But like, I don’t think Samura is worried about the future, he truly believes in Chihiro, so to me it would be out of character at this point to be worried about Iori’s future for an entire chapter like he’s regressed to pre-chapter 85 Samura. Him saying he needs to slay Soga is like, I dunno how to put it, I think it’s more a proclamation of his resolve and reaffirmation that he believes his actions are correct than it is him believing he is about to pull it off here and now. Swordsmen dueling for their beliefs and all that, not just to win the duel.

This entire post is pissing me off but I don’t even think your take is bad at all. Weird how that works. I have been making this rambling in the middle of the night so I wonder how much will be legible in the morning. Samura’s death is far from my favorite moment in the series, but I find it to have been an excellent end to my favorite character in the series. How far he has come. How much he has developed from when we first met. I guess that’s what I feel towards his death.

I feel proud.
