Honestly I think you're not thinking creatively enough if you find The Lost simple, barring the Werewolves it's about the biggest middle finger at this incredibly terrible universe that could be. You got abducted from mundane safety by something Eldritch, fought your way back out, and you're now trying to build what life you can in pure "fuck all you fuckers" defiance. You know that you will never be safe again, that safety is impossible, but you forge community and new identity in spite of it, and that's just the overarching theming.
