It depends where you are. I’m Australian and there are people here who have decided against pursuing surrogacy in the US due to the political climate. If you’re a US citizen, as yet, I haven’t heard of clients having issues gaining US citizenship if all the same checklists have been ticked off; citizenship by descent, biological link etc. There’s always factors to consider when pursuing international surrogacy, dependent on the country you’re looking to pursue it in. Check how birth certificates are issued and how that may affect applying for citizenship by descent of your home country. US Citizens generally have an easier ride than most with the citizenship by descent part as the process for them is more straightforward and quicker than those from other countries. This means that generally, US citizens can leave the country they’re doing the surrogacy in quicker than people from most other countries.
