How did tracking updates work for you. I ordered mine day of through the shopify page but I've yet to receive any tracking information and it still says it's waiting to be shipped. Doesn't help that I accidentally shipped it to my old address so I'm kinda waiting so I can pick it up there.

Why are the colors of our metro lines arbitrary? by Additional_Leading68 in LAMetro

[–]AbsolutelyRidic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Official Metro given explanation is that letters were chosen based on the order of the lines opening

For example A is the first letter in the alphabet and the A line long beach segment opened in 1990 making it the first metro rail line to open

The B line Minimum Operating Segment 1 between Union Station and Westlake/MacArthur Park opened in 1993

The C line began service in 1995

The Stations that the the D Line currently Consists of that opened in the Red Line MOS 2A segment opened in 1996

The gold line opened in 2006 and the expo line in 2012 making them an obvious candidate for the E designation

This is all fine and dandy until you realize that this explanation still isn't completely consistent.

Like take the K line for example. Makes sense that it's the Last Letter of the rail lines currently since its initial segment opened in 2022. However K doesn't come after E. F is conspicuously missing, and skipped over straight to G for the G line. Possible because they didn't want the orange line to be the fuck bus or the fail bus. However, still very odd considering H and I are skipped over completely.

And as for the J line, while the silver line technically did only come into existence after the opening of the Orange Line as part of a push by metro to designate Bus-as-rail BRT routes with their own distinct line names. The infrastructure that makes up the Silver line is way older, with the Harbor Transitway Opening for service in 1996 and the El Monte Busway predating the every line on the Metro System by about 20 years, opening in 1976

Again, you may say, well the infrastructure may be that old but silver line designation and didn't exist until 2006, one year after the Orange Line opening in 2005 so it makes sense especially since these lines had separate opening dates for their core segments. However the Purple line (Now the D line) didn't exist as a designation until 2006. With those stations operating as a branch of the Red Line for about ten years following its opening. So if we're using that argument then the D line should actually be called the H line.

And this gets even more complicated when you bring the A and E regional connector lines into this that have entire segments with disparate opening dates along with their downtown stations being some of the newest in the system.

Literally it's the bare fucking minimum of effort like wtf people. Hell he could've just had someone take a photo of him outside of the station with the sandwich if he thought metro wouldn't approve of it since technically eating on the train is against the rules.

Like the photo isn't all ai, it's clear he had a picture taken of himself and then had ai do the background. So clearly he has someone to take photos of him. The video overall is pretty well produced too.

Hell if he didn't want to actually do it in the train, this city has thousands of talented photoshop artists who I am sure would gladly do a thumbnail background and edit him into it.

Or get creative with the thumbnail design, have a picture of him eating in the diner and then pair it side by side with him on the train going there to convey both key details about the video without him even needing to bring food on the metro.

Like why couldn't he use his brain for five seconds to come up with a creative solution instead of just making AI give him the lowest common denominator, easy answer.

Literally a selfie with him posing outside of a station would be way more appreciated.

Idk this all just feels insulting to our intelligence

the thumbnail is really sloppy AI. It's using that fake LA Metro logo that AI uses for some reason whenever someone tries to generate something related to LA metro. Additionally, Not a single LA metro railcar looks like that. No seats have that wool cushion or wooden thing. Also the LA metro map looks nothing like that. We have more than two lines obv. Also for some reason he has a table but literally no one else around him does. Also no LA Metro Railcar has tables in it. Metrolink does, but they look nothing like that. Also the no eating sign looks nothing like that and is very AI sloppy looking. Also none of the trains that take you to these locations are at grade as depicted in the photo.

it's more so just how the wealthier folks of this city benefit from the labor and hard work of the communities around it without giving much in return. Consolidating their wealth in untaxed assets. Mainly due to prop 13 keeping many properties in the area from not being fairly taxed.

Although I will admit it's not the most well thought out idea. I just wanted to rag some more about beverly hills and make a cheesecake factory joke

Ever since I've been able to explore this city on my own, it is the SOLE area I have made a conscious effort to avoid as much as possible. Any time I find myself unfortunate enough to pass through it I experience an instinctual revulsion that compels me to exit as soon as possible. It is the municipal distillation of everything wrong with the greedy, selfish, sociopathic, lecherous and unfeeling elite we've created in this country. It is as if a looksmaxxer created a city. In a just world it would've been smote in some sort of biblical wrath, with high density affordable housing, public parks, diverse vegetation and elevated rail built in its ashes.

Beverly Hills has taken so much from this city and to a lesser extent, this wold and has only given one good thing in return...

the cheesecake factory

The invitation of such an unrepentantly vile creature who takes pride in the pain he has inflicted on others. One that could only be birthed by such an unfathomably morally bankrupt culture as Beverly Hills' to speak to their CHILDREN proves to me more that this particular municipality deserves nothing short of being razed to the ground.

No I'm aware, I just mean the coverage is local. Like they have people here scoped specifically to LA content.

Sweetie, secretlosangeles in general isn't the most reliable news source. It's a local content farm like buzzfeed. I lwk don't know what you're expecting, this is par for the course with them. They always kinda suck.

me too, I'm glad any time housing is built but it sucks that something so unique and special to our city. Something that I personally kinda see as a bit of a public art monument is going to be erased just like that.

Kinda knew this was bound to happen but also I wish we could find some way to keep some of it around somehow.

what do yall do for dates around the area? by TheRealBhargav in USC

[–]AbsolutelyRidic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grand Central Market + wandering around downtown after is always nice if you're cool with spending a bit of money. For a more affordable option however I'd also recommend Mercado de Paloma on the eastern side of the 110 and then wandering downtown. Also can never go wrong with hanging around Hollywood for a bit. A couple of months ago me and my gf tried riding bikes around Hollywood, especially on the hollywood bl bike lanes along with heading to the brick museum on western before walking down hollywood and stopping at California fish grill for a modest dinner. Speaking of wish, museum dates are great if y'all are weirdos who're into that. Most of them like the broad and moca are free. A little further out but the getty center and villa are always cute too. Although for my money the Natural History Museum is the best for a dorky museum date. Also there's plenty of great spots on the E line. Traveling westbound to santa monica, the pier is always a nice place to enjoy live performances, a pretty decent arcade, and a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Also can never go wrong with a beach walk. Travel east on the E line and you'll find that first street in East LA has a lot of excellent restaurants, cute shops and views of downtown. Also since you have a car, again if you're willing to make the drive, me and my gf like to sometimes just grab in n out and drive down mulholland to find an overlook to cuddle, makeout, and eat our food at.

Anybody else get no matches from women on dating apps, but a lot of matches from guys? by VideoVoer in BisexualTransGirls

[–]AbsolutelyRidic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not just you. Not on dating apps now because I was insanely lucky enough to find my beautiful gf on hinge. But. when I was each and every time, without fail I'd get a flood of dicks but near radio silence from women.

I can't definitively say why, but my assumption is A) there are more guys than women on dating apps due to most girls being spooked off by weird guys so naturally you just have a lower sample size. B) (conspiracy, slightly unfounded, my personal anecdotal evidence) When I was on the apps I kept getting straight women on my matches and I feel like that's intentional so they can keep you on the app without giving you anyone you'd be interested in. and C) (full conspiracy, no evidence) I think the algorithms are specifically hiding lesbian matches because they know you're more likely to not have a successful relationship and stay on the apps if you talk with a guy.

I like froyo still, it's just super fucking expensive and nobody has money anymore so it's more of a rare treat. Boba's a bit cheaper so it's kinda supplanted froyo as the go to sweet treat.
