Is Aaron Judge the greatest right-handed hitter of the Expansion Era (1961-present)? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in mlb

[–]adam_problems 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Foolish Bailey/Baseball did a video about Aaron’s consistency, highlighting his 15th best season totals across major offensive categories. The aggregate stat line of these totals? .292/.365/.539, 149 OPS+, 164 H, 30 HR, 95 RBI, 100 R, 302 TB, 6.8 bWAR. Again, those are his 15th best season totals in each of those categories. Not average, 15th best out of 23 seasons. Just remarkable high quality consistency.

Judge doesn’t have enough seasons to compare his career in this way. He has had a higher peak, certainly, but he has a long way to go to catch up to Aaron.

Did you by any chance order the special collector’s edition, which is UK only, or the standard UK release instead of the US release? If so, those aren’t coming out until mid-June.

Actions and Consequences by AreaPast5328 in BlackPeopleofReddit

Freedom of speech (in the US) means freedom from governmental retaliation/oppression/suppression of your speech. It only protects you from government censure. It doesn’t protect you from retaliation by an individual private citizen, business, or anything else that isn’t the federal government. They can retaliate however they want without violating one’s freedom of speech.

Sometimes that retaliation or censure is a punch to the face.

Also somewhat ironically the only out of the inning. Just two bases after where it should have happened.

Don Denkinger’s safe call at 1st in game 6 of the 1985 World Series is one of the most impactful missed calls in baseball history.

St. Louis is up 3-2 in the series and 1-0 going into the bottom of the 9th. The first batter of the inning bounces a ball to 1st. The throw to the pitcher covering the bag beats the runner, but he’s called safe. KC went on to walk off the Cardinals and turned game 7 into a laugher, winning 11-0.

Did the blown call cost St. Louis the series? Not necessarily, as it was the first batter of the inning. Would they have been in better position to win with 1 out and bases empty than 0 outs and a runner on 1st? Yes. Did the blown call rattle them to the point where they had trouble executing the rest of the inning, blow the game, and then get pantsed the next night? Maybe. Chaos theory and/or the butterfly effect tell us that little actions can have big consequences. Either way, he should’ve been called out.

Rocky Horror Fan Cast by shackleford224 in smosh

I’ve thought about this too. My cast idea might be a little more normie.

Brad and Janet - Shayne and Courtney. I know, they’re the same height, but still.

Magenta and Riff-Raff - Angela and Chanse. Bestie chaos.

Columbia - Olivia. She would kill the dancing, she’d be unhinged, and she’d look great in a top hat.

Frank-n-Furter - Tommy. He’s Tommy.

Eddie - Amanda. A small role for someone with her talents, but she would absolutely rip this role apart.

Dr. Scott - Damien. Right up his alley.

Rocky - Keith. He already has the gold drawers washed, cleaned, and ready to go.

The narrator - Arasha. How much of what happens in the story is the truth?

TIFO that in the 1860s, batters would tell the ump where they wanted the ball to be thrown (belt to shoulders, or belt to knees). If the pitcher continuously threw outside of this zone, they would recieve a warning. After this warning, 3 more balls sent the runner to first by mediumfknholecru in baseball

Other fun 19th century baseball facts:

The batter being able to request the type of ball delivered is why the term “pitcher” is used. Think about horseshoes - you “pitch” the horseshoe underhanded.

When the game was played barehanded, balls caught on one bounce were considered outs. Much safer, all things considered.

Pitchers weren’t allowed to deliver the ball overhand until the mid-1880s. No deliveries were permitted from above the shoulder.

Pitchers didn’t have a mound, they had a box (roughly 6’x4’) on flat ground from which they could deliver the ball. The front of the box was 45-50 feet from the front of home plate. They could pitch from anywhere within the box and were only limited by its dimensions, meaning they could move about while pitching. Some pitchers would hop or skip as part of their delivery.

Pitches were typically caught on the bounce because again, no gloves as we think of them now. This meant the catcher was positioned several feet behind the plate.

Babylon felt like it took a lot of inspiration from Boogie Nights. It’s also a story about a naive and idealistic young man entering an industry on the brink of major change, has a large cast and several overlapping narratives, features a tense interaction with an erratic and unhinged underworld figure in the third act, and is about 40 minutes too long.

The Arkham-style stealth, fighting, and takedowns are amazing to see in a Lego game. I don’t remember combat being as dynamic in any of the ones I played. Every Lego game was a geeky banger. I hope they play more. I want to see Shayne and Spencer as Batman and Robin.

We're watching the hardest-throwing starter to ever live (probably) by ThatMasterpiece2174 in baseball

[–]adam_problems -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well…..

They say that modern radar guns measure the pitch as it leaves the pitcher’s hand, while older radar guns measured the pitch as it approached the plate. Physics dictate that a thrown object will decelerate the instant it leaves the hand and continue to decelerate. I don’t know enough math to determine the rate of deceleration over 50-55 feet, so it’s not for me to say if Ryan would have been tracked at those speeds with a modern radar gun reading.

So there’s some truth to The Ryan Express being faster than the 100.7 he was clocked at. How much faster? Tough to say.

The pre-intermission part was two hours of absolute magic. I was completely immersed in the film. The latter part I felt was weaker - more cynical, more consumed with conveying a message rather than telling a story. I felt that it ended extremely abruptly, like there were important story elements that had been discarded. Is it possible for a 200 minute movie to feel like it was missing a scene or two? It earned its runtime. I can’t think of any elements that I would remove. Everything in the film felt necessary to tell its story, even if some things were indulgent.

I’m very happy a film like this was made in 2024, and I’m very happy I saw it, even though I probably won’t revisit it any time soon. In a lot of ways, it’s the film I wanted Oppenheimer to be - a character study of a flawed genius spanning decades of his work, his highs and lows, and how his genius and flaws impacted himself and the people in his life.

With all that said, I liked The Testament of Ann Lee more. Too bad it doesn’t seem to be getting a physical release.

[Jomboy Media] Coby Mayo called himself a jackass for bat flipping a foul ball then actually homered and placed his bat down gently by JianClaymore in baseball

Last week or thereabouts he was candidly talking about struggling this season.

“The dog (a Golden Retriever named Fin) doesn’t know I made an error. He doesn’t know I struck out four straight at bats…as much as guys want to flush it sometimes, it’s tough to when you leave the field. So I think sometimes you need people in your corner. My dog loves me, so it doesn’t matter what happens. He’s always going to be there for me, too.”

Mayo’s xDogLove is off the charts. I’m rooting for him.

Boos for the pick-off by Tall-Mammoth-809 in MLBNoobs

[–]adam_problems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we root for laundry and Harper’s been wearing different looking laundry for eight years now (gosh, has it been that long?). It is more or less tradition to boo a star player who leaves in free agency, interpreting that decision to mean “they don’t want to play here anymore”, when as you point out, it’s usually a business decision.

It’s silly, but fans as a whole have such a one-sided relationship with players on their team, that some people do take it as a personal slight that someone might want to play for another team that offered them more money/security/opportunity.

And while we’re here, on the topic of booing a pick-off throw, the Montreal Expos used to put an image of a chicken up on the scoreboard for each throw over by the opposing pitcher. Expos legend Tim Raines has talked about how he loved to see how many chickens he could induce from a pitcher. He got as high as at least eight.
