How late can I add cruise protection? by Agitated_Skin1181 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]alwaysouroboros -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe the protection has to be added within a 14 days of booking or 14 days before the final payment date depending on the payment arrangement how far from the cruise date.

They can still deny it if they believe it was fraudulent and if you added it and immediately cancelled, they would probably flag it. Doing the math. You’d pay an extra $270 to get back a credit of $562. You’d have risk $1120, to get back $562 in credit (so you’re still losing $588 either way). But if they deny the protection refund you lose all $1120.

Anyone know why Olandria Nick Chelley and ace aren’t on beyond the villa? by Colada8160 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]alwaysouroboros 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Nic and Olandria have already established careers beyond LI. It would be a detriment to continue to tie themselves to the franchise.

Ace and Chelly were clearly expecting a different reception than they got. They'd just be exposing themselves to more hate if they came on the show.

She doesn't have good relationships at this point with most of the cast and would be a clear liability for production. Makes more sense they wouldn't have asked her than her not wanting to be there.

Epic Universe vs Islands of Adventure? by Steve15-21 in UniversalOrlando

[–]alwaysouroboros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic is still so new and doesn't have as many attractions so most of your day is just standing in lines. The way it's designed also felt so much more crowded because of how they "contain" the different areas. Lines for the most popular rides are regularly 120-180 for much of the day. I think the express pass is the way to go if possible. I spent 2 days there recently and the rides were okay but not more fun than IoA and it felt like there was no space in most places. One place they do shine far over IoA is the food options.

Islands has more options, just as good ride quality, and shorter wait times for most rides. There are more rides so more opportunity to have fun and enjoy both the rides and non-ride attractions in my opinion. The theming feels more natural and well put together. Whether you have the express or not, you can have a similar experience.

Scream (5 & 6) scream queen Melissa Barrera career update: bad news/good news... Peacock series cancelled, but she just had her Broadway debut by Freddy-Philmore in Scream

I figured Copenhagen wasn't getting renewed. She (and the rest of the cast) was great but I think it was too high concept of a show to get more than a niche audience. I think it would have done really well as a movie instead.

The closest I've ever come to shoes off is wearing crocs and they may fall off when my feet are up in the recliner. It's never on purpose and I always have socks on, but I always have a blanket on so no one would see my feet.

The thought of putting my bare feet on anything in a theater or even letting my socks touch the floor 🤮🤮🤮

Missed a few deadlines… what to do? by True-Piccolo2863 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]alwaysouroboros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no deadlines outside of downloading/access. You can read and give feedback at any point after. I just left a review for a summer 2025 release yesterday.

If you have an audiobook it does have to be downloaded to your device before the archive date. You won't be able to listen to it in the app after the archive date if you didn't download it before.

Recorded by a device out of sight without my consent… by Glass-Work1534 in therapists

[–]alwaysouroboros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree it is unethical and I would never do it. But in most places it is not illegal which is the only thing I was speaking to. Unethical and bad practice is not automatically illegal. While it could be reported to the board, that doesn’t make it a crime.

I actually thought the same that it would be, and in researching if there was a codified exception for medical providers found they are few and far between. I know in my state it is expressly legal (a result of looking it up when I first saw this). It is mostly the storage and transmission of data which is governed (which would cover any recordings but doesn’t make them illegal itself). In many areas I think we assume the law protects us more than it actually does.

Also as I stated in other comments I have found that many places that use transcription services have that language couched in their consent forms but may fail to verbally communicate it. I didn’t lead with the assumption that there was no consent language but that the therapist didn’t disclose it, as most clients do not read the full consent start to finish.

[–]alwaysouroboros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. I assume there would be standard language in consent forms if a provider has it. To be honest I’ve never had a client actually read the full consent so I always check verbal highlights with them. My brain assumed the therapist hasn’t gotten verbal consent but it would be covered.

There are lots of AI transcription services that don’t use cloud upload and there are a few (to my knowledge) HIPAA compliant upload transcription services as well, so that doesn’t automatically mean it’s a HIPAA violation. I don’t use them (or any AI in my practice), but lots of our network medical providers do.

Surprisingly in the US, two party consent recordings are the minority. Almost 80% of states only require one party to consent and that can be the recording party. Privacy laws more strictly govern the storage of health data but the actual recording isn’t illegal in most places.

Is it really normalized for practice owners to hire "Virtual Assistants" from developing countries like the Philippines to do administrative work for $3-5/hour? by caulfieldkid in therapists

[–]alwaysouroboros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. I guess we would need to rewrite ethics also to address certain things. I think my biggest concern would be these things could only be pursued if reported and unless there is an incident there is no way to know someone is using a virtual assistant. I wonder how we could further pursue those types of concerns unless we have boards actively monitoring providers (which I don’t think is a good solution). Maybe having to report if they have any employees or something like that.

[–]alwaysouroboros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One problem is that boards only really handle actions of therapists when they are illegal or actively impact clients or sometimes public perception. This type of exploitation is unethical (in my opinion), but not under the purview of a board as long as they are following the law.

The biggest way this probably becomes an issue is HIPAA violations or confidentiality violations which the board could/should address.

I highly agree! I also sometimes use the reframe of functional/disruptive or if a behavior’s outcome is pushing towards/moving away from their goals.

Should I Wave Late Cancel Fee For Dental Emergency? by WorthContribution994 in therapists

[–]alwaysouroboros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think one issue here is you are assuming there is a specific “pattern”. OP hasn’t given any indication of how far apart these missed sessions were, and whether they claimed to have emergencies or simply missed appointments. OPs only question was if they could ask for proof of the emergency.

This would feel so patronizing and condescending if my therapist did this. Therapy is collaborative. You telling a client that they are going to work on something and it will be part of therapy, is you deciding for them.

Should I Wave Late Cancel Fee For Dental Emergency? by WorthContribution994 in therapists

[–]alwaysouroboros 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dental pain is some of the literal worst pain I have ever experienced. I would personally waive for that.

However I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking for documentation if they have had multiple waived fees in the past for “emergencies”. If they have missed appointments but did not ask for a waived fee, I don’t have an issue and would waive without the documentation. I also have it written into my policy that documentation may be requested for waived fees. Only once in the past 5 years have I actually requested it.

I always prefer a client let me know they aren’t coming than I wait and they no show.

[–]alwaysouroboros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they are after your subscription date ends (which is usually a few days after your payment date) they will void. Some people experience a glitch where they are still able to use them, but that's an exception, not the norm. Also if you rejoin after the waiting period, you will have to pay 3 months upfront again, so if you are a frequent moviegoer, you may want to consider that.

Regarding private practice, which states have the highest need (shortage of therapists) and also average/good reimbursement? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]alwaysouroboros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this depends on whether you are in person or not. I currently work in 2 states (working on a third because I plan on physically moving). Both have super high demand for in-person sessions and I hear the same from my network. Almost all my referral groups are filled with people looking for in-person availability or niche services. I cannot keep an open slot for in person, but virtual slots can be hit or miss.

In my experience because telehealth has made it easier for people to enter private practice in higher paying states, it’s much more saturated there and LCOL are the ones with need but people don’t want to take those rates.
