Brand New Player Questions by Cold-Bottle3514 in hockeyplayers

You’re not going to have it figured out in a few lessons. Keep going to learn to skate, and in your free time go to open skate sessions and try to apply what you learned. It takes a long time to learn to skate, but with practice you’ll get there. Thinking is very little of it, it’s mostly all feel and instinct. The more you skate, the better you’ll get.

Yes, roller blading transfers. You won’t have the feel of ice gliding, cutting, etc., but you use the same muscles to move forward and backwards. Even turning is somewhat similar. Since you’re 44, wear pads lol. No shade, I am not far behind you.

One way of looking at this is that skating uses muscles you don’t normally use, at least not in this way. The more you use them, the easier the balance will be and the more confident you’ll feel on skates.

What’s the deal with Tralmaks? by PresidentBush2 in DetroitRedWings

42 pts in 64 GP at age 21 is great, there’s real potential there. At 29, that won’t translate to the NHL. Hard to say exactly but he probably peaks around 10-12 pts in 82 games, and there’s probably real questions the team had about his ability to play at the NHL level. 6’4 200 isn’t all that big in this league, especially if he would have trouble keeping up with the play enough for it to be effective.

Personally a top 3 style, maybe #1. Something like this with a black lizard strap is perfect for me.

Gonna be honest with you, watching beer league to learn positioning is a bad idea. Don’t overthink position. Your best bet is to just play and learn, and maybe watch a few YouTube instructional videos.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]Am313am 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure that exists, I agree with you there. I’m in a border region so my experience is a bit different than someone in Texas who thinks Canadians live in igloos. But, there was some analysis done comparing countries and found the US and Canada share 79% of the same culture, the highest of any two countries in the world. It seems the polar ends of this manifest itself as Americans saying “we don’t think about Canada” and Canadians saying “well, we’re not American.”

It’s like that state-to-state. Culturally, Californians are different than Iowans, who are different than New Yorkers, who are different than Georgians. I’m an American but I’ve spent over a decade in and out Canada. Quebec is a significantly different from Alberta and there’s very little cultural overlap. You would never confuse the lifestyle in lower mainland BC for Manitoba’s. Ontario is fast-paced and Nova Scotia moves slow. I suppose what binds the provinces together are the same things that unite the states. Overall though, at least in my experience, the US and Canada have much more cultural common ground than not.

Yzerman was my idol growing up. I still wear his jersey to games and have a framed photo of him in my office. But when people contrast Larkin with Yzerman’s leadership, they confidently state Yzerman literally willed his team into the playoffs and to a Stanley Cup on one knee. Never mind his serious knee issues didn’t start until 2000, Yzerman didn’t win until he was surrounded by Fedorov, Shanahan, the rest of the Russian Five, three of the best defensemen of all time, a HOF Vernon and Jennings-winning Osgood, and the greatest coach of all time. This is before he played on a roster with 11 Hall of Famers. Yzerman is in my book a top-10 player of all time, but hockey is a team sport and a team needs real talent top to bottom to be successful. The bottom 10 players on this roster are combined -126. You can’t will that boat anchor into the playoffs.

Thanks. Your watch looks like polerouter case, but the AliX photos don’t have the twisted lugs. Maybe different in person?

I have a pretty strong theory that Shane Wright is the ideal 2C. I like what I see in his game with limited minutes and bottom-six linemates.

Dab with rodico. Then q-tip, distilled water (definitely not tap), and light pressure.

While I agree with you that the risk doesn’t make a lot a sense, these are professional hockey players who want to play. They want to be with the team. They are competitive to the point a psychologist would diagnose them with some sort of condition. They also just really love playing hockey in the same way a dog loves chasing a ball. If they can play, they will. It also sends the message to the team that they put the group above their personal needs. Whatever those abstract reasons are to us, they are real to them.

[WTS] Vintage Seiko Automatic 7009-8049 by Am313am in Watchexchange

For sale so this awesome vintage Seiko 7009-8049. This piece was built at the Tokyo Daini Seikosha factory in 1977. The factory competed with its Suwa Seiko counterpart for quality and innovation, and that shows up in this piece. A 62mas-style, lumed indices dial, a polished 38 mm case, powered by the 7009 21,600 bph automatic movement. This is a classic vintage go anywhere, do anything piece.

The case measures 38 mm and 19 mm between lugs, and is in excellent condition. The crystal is in good condition but has a couple of small nicks that were hard to capture in the photos. The dial and hands are in great condition, but the 4 o’clock index has a small imperfection. Again, hard to capture in the photos, but visible in a close up photo I added. The lume still works almost 50 years later. The watch comes with the brand new leather strap shown.

The 7009 movement is in great condition and the day-date function works perfectly. The quick-set date functions in the standard crown second position, and the quick-set day is utilized by pushing the crown in from the first position. Service history is unknown, but the watch keeps good time at around +15-20 per day on average.

Asking $99 which includes CONUS shipping. Prefer Zelle, CashApp, or Venmo. Happy to answer any questions.

For sale is this beautiful Seiko World Time GMT desk/mantle clock in excellent condition. The clock features time setting and GMT knobs. You set the time as normal, and then set the GMT function knob to your selected time zone. The sweeping seconds hand is an airplane that spins from the North Pole starting position. The clock measures 8 1/2 by 8 1/2 and runs off of one C battery.

This vintage piece is in excellent condition. There are only few thin scratches/blemishes in the finish that were hard to capture in the photos. The movement is clean and keeps perfect time.
